The New World
Chapter 26 – Testing time

The moment Demonio walked back into his current residence in Russia, he walked straight back into his lab, pulling the glass out of his bag, and examining it before setting it aside. The General watched over the God’s shoulder, his brow wrinkled in confusion as he eyed the glass. He glanced at Francis and then walked over to him.

“What’s with the glass?” Demonio turned to look at him as he asked.

“The night you had your party, the night Fire was here, did you see her talking longer with any one person?” Demonio asked The General.

“I can’t say that she did. I introduced her to a couple of people but I stayed with her for the majority of the time. What does that have to do with some random wine glass?”

“Francis, would you explain to the pathetic vampire mind who Grayson is and why it’s valuable?” Demonio asked, clearly annoyed.

“Of course, sir.” The wolf turned to the vampire. “Grayson was an Alpha of a rather huge and powerful pack back in America. He is also mated to Fire.” The vampire shook his head.

“Impossible. For as long as I have been around, the centuries on end, there has never been cross-breeding.”

“There is now. I saw the marks on both of them. What’s worse is what’s being rumored, which is that they have kids. But I saw no proof of that myself.”

“But how is that even possible?” Demonio turned once more to look at the vampire.

“Because there is something more going on than I know, obviously; which is why I have to test this glass. If there is something special about Grayson then he is a part of this as much as I believe Fire is, and therefore, kids are a very real possibility, no matter how crazy it sounds to any of us.”

“Wolves die, they have long lives, but they die. As vampires mate, it’s for life. We only drink the blood from the person we are mated to which is why vampires don’t mate to anyone but vampires,” the General protested.

“I get that. And I know this is hard to understand, but I saw their marks, they are together,” Francis responded.

“I will guarantee you both; if I will have my army, then so will the other Gods. I didn’t think it would be possible, but they aren’t stupid. And if one, such as Fire was created, unique, special, and one alone, why couldn’t there be another?” Demonio asked as he took the DNA off the glass. “If there is truth to be found in Fire’s blood as I suspect, then this will tell me there is something in Grayson’s and I will need more of that.” He stopped and turned to look at the General.

“What?” he asked.

“I need you two to leave. I can’t afford something to mess this up. And if this is what I think it is, then I should have something that will help my demons.” They both left with confused expressions but he wasn’t surprised.

He had been trying to figure out if his theory was right if the blood of Fire would help his demons in some way. But getting near her to get a sample would be impossible, especially now because he could easily assume she was suspicious of Francis. But testing her beloved’s DNA would allow him more belief in that thought because, again, she was unique. And he was basing this test on the assumption that Grayson was unique as well, otherwise, why find a beloved after so many centuries alone?

The wolves, added with an Alpha’s blood, had become stronger, but they still died out faster than he liked. So, yes having an alpha was nice, some of his demons lasted just a few hours longer, but if he couldn’t get them to last longer than that, he would never be able to take over the world as he wanted. His mission that he had been aiming towards for many, many years, would fail.

He pulled the little bit of DNA that he could off and mixed it in the vial, the color of the mixture changing to one he hadn’t seen before. And he smiled as he watched it. He had to come up with a plan to test Fire’s blood now. Some kind of attack or some type of kidnapping, although that last thought might be harder considering he was sure she was on guard these days.

He also wished he could go back and look over the book. He knew in that damned book were clues they hadn’t picked up on yet. And the notes he had looked over were more from the first part of the book, which was useless information. And for some unknown reason, he was going to say that Fire took it the night she was here. The question that came to his mind, well two questions; one was why? Why take something you couldn’t read? And two, how did she know about the book to begin with? Because no one knew about it. After all, it wasn’t like Sol made it a point to exist or be around much.

He sat down in the chair as he looked over the sheets of paper where he had been jotting down notes for his demons. When he started using the General’s blood on the various species, he would notice what it would do. It gave life like it hadn’t before, but it still died rather fast. And when he added the Alpha’s blood, the species were stronger but could still be overtaken. He knew there was something he was overlooking but wasn’t sure what. Again, a feeling told him that the information he was seeking was in that book that he had no clue where it was.

He sat his notes aside about that and started looking over the pages he could gather from the General’s notes on the book. As he started to read he paused, and sat the papers back down. He recalled talking to Marina and she had even told him about the union between Fire and Grayson. Maybe she knew more than he had thought; maybe she wasn’t as useless as he first assume. He opened the door and called the General over.

“Yes sir?” Demonio crossed his arms and stood against his desk.

“Can you contact Marinna at any time?” The General lifted a brow but nodded.

“Yes, I can. Do you need her to come?”

“Yes. I like to talk to her. Tell her to come here as fast as she can.” The General nodded but one could tell he was easily confused again. Demonio wasn’t exactly happy when she left the last time so for him to ask must be odd. But Demonio wasn’t a fool, Marianna knew more than she was letting on and he wanted to pick her mind to see what he could possibly figure out.

He turned back to look at the vial and grinned as he saw the solution was ready. He pulled another vial out of his cooler that had his own blood to turn the species into demons and mixed a syringe. It bubbled for a moment, again, something that was different to see. He made sure to jot it down and then capped the syringe. He was going to leave it to Francis which one got this special injection.

He walked out of his lab and over to Francis who was reading a book. “Francis?” the God asked and Francis sat his book down.

“Yes?”

“This injection is special; I don’t want to waste it so I want you to pick the one I shall test this on.” Francis eyed the needle in his hand and then nodded.

“My gamma. He would be perfect for that and he owes me for lots that he screwed up on.” The God walked out of the house and to the locked area they were keeping the wolves. Francis called David to come out and he did, bowing his head at his Alpha.

“Alpha, what’s going on? The others haven’t come back and this isn’t like you to house us here.”

“Don’t concern yourself with that. I need you to shift now and this man beside me will give you a shot. Don’t argue; just do as you are told.”

“Of course, Alpha.” The man shifted into his brown wolf form and bowed his head to the God who quickly inserted the needle and plunged the liquid in. The wolf howled out and Francis’s own wolf cried out in his head, wanting to help his packmate but the man shot the feeling down. This was to better the world, this was for power, and he had to remember that.

They watched as the wolf collapsed on the ground and whimpered as the new blood rolled through his veins, his eyes closing but his claws extending. Within moments, though, the wolf stood back up, his once brown eyes turning golden in color. He bowed to Demonio and the God smiled. This wolf easily had a foot in height on his other demons and much more muscle mass. Grayson’s DNA added a unique strength that wasn’t seen before and he was excited about that. Which meant that Fire’s blood had to give them something as well.

“Outstanding. Shift back and stay, I will have need of you yet.” The wolf nodded, the foam collecting on his lips as he went back into the house. “I need his blood,” Demonio muttered as he started walking back to the house.

“You plan on getting that how?” Francis asked as he followed him.

“I don’t know, Francis. But I know I need to test Fires blood too. And David will be the one to help me as he will be the one to attack her and I feel she won’t be able to fight him.”
