I was woken up the next morning by Helena. She walked into the room and started banging doors and drawers. I thought there was an intruder or an attacker but I saw Helena with her arms folded.
She was wearing black gym shorts with a matching sports bra. Her hair was in a slick ponytail at the back of her head and she was wearing grey sneakers. She had some sort of sweater tied around her waist and a grey- I think it’s a towel or handkerchief- in her back pocket.
She handed me a plate of sliced fruits, “Eat; we’re leaving in twenty minutes.”
I had a lot of questions but the look on her face showed that she was not in the mood to receive any so I forced my curiosity aside and ate the fruits. I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I had started eating and when I was done, I was still hungry.
“I know you’re hungry but if you eat anymore now you will throw up on the training field.”
“Training field,” I repeated and she shot me a bored look.
“Are you going to sit there and repeat everything I say or are you going to brush your teeth so we can go?”
“Sorry,” I muttered as I all but ran to the bathroom.
I made quick work of brushing my teeth and I also decided to use alcohol wipes to wipe my pits and face so I don’t smell all that bad.
When I got out, Helena tossed a bag of clothes at me and I opened it to see a pair of grey gym clothes; a sports bra, spandex leggings and grey sneakers. I quickly changed and when she saw me I saw her lips quirk up.
“I would let you go out like this,” she began, “But Zander will murder any man who sees you this way.”
She reached backwards and pulled out what I thought was a handkerchief but was

actually a grey tank top and handed it to me. I pulled it over my head and felt a lot better now that I was covered..
I followed her as she navigated her way towards the back of the palace. We passed a garden and a beautiful fountain before I heard the sounds of grunting and kicking and the smell of sweat assaulted my nose.
I don’t know what I was expecting when she said the words training field as I was never allowed to train before but it was not this huge expanse of land filled with different wolves of all shapes and sizes engaging in different forms of training.
I thought the training field would consist of only the royal family but I could see some of the guards, the drivers and even a few maids. Everyone trained regardless of age, size and gender. Even Ender was training under the watchful eye of an
instructor.
I heard a grunt and I saw Lucas and Zander engaged in a spar and I was so enamored by the fluidity with which they moved. Their strikes were precise and firm and all I could do was watch.
“Close your mouth or you’ll catch flies,” Alex sneered as she walked past me. She was in a similar set as Helena but hers was pink, “Are you sure you want to train here? We’re all experienced warriors and you look like you’ve never seen a gym. This will be fun.”
She chuckled to herself as she walked away and I started to over think the training.
“Don’t let her get into your head,” Helena placed a hand on my shoulder, “No one will judge you and we will start small. I’m going to be your trainer so trust me.” I nodded and she gave me a small smile.
We started with light jogging around the field and a few people joined us. Helena taught me to breathe slowly but it didn’t matter, I was already winded by the third lap. I thought I would get winded early but I guess being bullied helps you build stamina.
I was the only one who was tired and we did another lap before Helena asked us to stop. I hated how hard I was breathing when everyone else didn’t even break a
sweat.
Helena handed me a bottle of water and took a small sip before she took it out of

my hands and placed it back on the floor.
Next we did a little core workouts. We did sit ups and planks and some lunges. Helena said it was to help me relax but I don’t think we have the same definition of relaxation because my torso was quivering and my arms were feeling like lead.
The only reason I didn’t give up was because Alex would pass by occasionally and make scathing remarks and I wanted to prove her wrong. I wanted to show her that I could last in this family and in this world even though I wasn’t sure what this world held for me. Most importantly, I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it..
By the time we finished, my bones felt like noodles and I felt like I had been dragged through a washer and wrung dry. My legs wobbled as I made my way back to the room and I probably would have fallen flat on my face if not for Helena walking with me.
“We have a long way to go,” Helena said as she unceremoniously dumped me in a chair, “You are barely trained but with the right dedication, I am sure we can get you into shape in no time.”
“Why do I need to be in shape?”
“If you’re going to be Zander’s mate then you’re going to have a target on your back,” she explained, “You will always have guards but it is a good thing to know how to defend yourself in case your guards are incapacitated.”
I hated to admit it but it made a lot of sense but unfortunately that wasn’t where my mind was. I was thinking about the part about being Zander’s mate and I couldn’t help but think about last night when Zander tried to heat things up
between us.

“I know that look,” Helena said, “Ask whatever it is you want to.
I was unsure at first but then I decided what the hell, “Have you ever- done it with someone?”
“Done what with someone?”
“You know,” I trailed off, “Completed the mating bond.”
“I’m not mated so no,” she deadpanned, “But I assume you’re talking about sex and I don’t even want to know why because I don’t even want to imagine what you and Zander do behind closed doors.”

“We haven’t had sex.”
She grimaced and gave me a dirty look, “Good to know; so what’s the issue?”
“I’m just worried because I’ve never done it before and I don’t know if I’m going to do it right.”
“I can’t believe I’m having this conversation,” she ran her hand over my forehead and took a seat opposite me, “This is why I was happy being an only girl. Listen, you cannot do it wrong and if you think about it too much it is going to be shit for you. So just enjoy it and don’t force it. Let it happen when it happens.”
“What if I’m not ready?”
I knew that Zander was hiding things from me and I was worried that if I agreed to mate with him then he would forget about me completely and I would lose myself in him.
“Then you tell Zander that you’re not ready,” she said it as if it was that simple, “He” s a good person; he will not force you if you aren’t ready. Just communicate with
him.”
“Thank you, Helena.”
“You’re welcome,” she stood to her feet, “Now I am going to scrub my brain free of this conversation if you will excuse me.”
She stood up stiffly and when she was out of the room, she all but slammed the door behind her which made me smile a little.
