Evelyn POV

Candice’s eyes snap to me before she whips her head to watch them enter. “Mummy….Mummy…I won again.” Elspeth runs towards me, her muddy hands leaving handprints on my black jeans.

“Only because I let you.” Rex retorts at his sister, as he walks in looking at our guests. My eyes are on Candice like a hawk, who is watching my children intently.

“Children, you need to wash your hands..” Miss Smith chases after them until she joins us in the living room. “Oh Alpha I am sorry, I didn’t realise…”

“That’s quite alright, we are hands on with children in our pack too…” Beta Milo smiles at Miss Smith, putting her at ease. Four years I’ve spent protecting the pack and my children, and within thirty seconds that barrier has been knocked down.

“Evelyn?” Noah’s voice calls for me down the hallway and at recognising his voice, Candice stands and growls at me.

“Candice!” Milo reprimands his own mate just as Noah walks in to the room.

“What’s gotten into you….my apologies Alpha.” Milo narrows his eyes at Candice for showing me disrespect.

“Miss Smith could you take the children upstairs please, I won’t be long.”

“Of course Alpha.” Miss Smith understands the importance of taking the children out of a possible

hostile environment.

“Come on children…” She holds her hand out to Elspeth who sweetly takes it. Not Rex though. My little alpha is too busy eyeing up the new beta in front of him.

“Whats your position?” He cheekily asks at Milo.

“I’m beta of the Blue Moon pack…you?” Milo smirks

“I’m future alpha of the Silver Moon pack.” He puffs out his chest.

“Ah well alpha, I look forward to liaising with you in the future.” Milo holds his hand out to shake Rex’s, who does with a proud glint in his eyes.

“Come on Rex.” Miss Smith presses for Rex to now give us some privacy.

“This is a surprise Evelyn, here I was thinking you were dead….”

“Not my mum, she’s stronger than anyone I know. She could even defeat the Alpha King!”

“How have you heard of the Alpha King?” I question my son, trying to keep my heart a steady rhythm.

“We learn things from school preparation mummy

Elspeth tuts at me as if this was the most obvious thing.

I take a deep breath in, I couldn’t blame Miss Smith… Reuben’s title was legendary. She also didn’t know he was the father to my twins, only Noah knows the truth. He takes the gossip that they are his gladly. My children leave the room, leaving just the four of us.

“Doctor Noah, this is a surprise.” Candice acknowledges Noah, not as warmly as she would have

done in the past.

“Candice!” He nods to her, placing his arm around my shoulder. I don’t miss her eyes dart to my

neck in search of a mate mark.

“How have you been?” Noah makes pleasantries.

“So you’re the doctor here?” Candice hasn’t lost her blunt questioning skills.

“Noah has set up our first class medical facilities but no he is my beta.”

“The tour of the facilities…” Milo clears his throat trying to clear the tension between Candice and myself.

“Yes allow me to take you to our medical facility.” Noah springs into action, a beta looking after a beta. They exit the room and I hold back slightly with Candice. I know she has something she

wants to say, it is practically on the top of her tongue.

“Beautiful children Alpha.”

“Thank you Candice.” I say as I start to join the betas.

“Very blonde. They don’t take after the beta at all.”

Candice’s earlier comment has been torturing me. I’ve done my best to show them the success of the Silver Moon pack and the extra facilities and security that any pack could call upon when they are a member of the alliance.

Now only time will tell if I have done enough. But I just have this feeling that part of Candice’s release from Reuben’s pack was for the Blue Moon to remain a close ally.

I can now understand why Alpha Ivo was anxious not to leave the safety net of the Red Stone pack. Even though he himself could easily get strangled in that net at any time.

Candice was currently in the kitchen helping Rex and Elspeth make cupcakes under the watchful

eyes of Noah and Donnie, while I was in my office with Milo.

“We can leave tonight if you feel uncomfortable us being here.” He offers, I’m not sure what Candice has told him but he is careful to not give too much away.

“Not at all.”

“She thought you were dead, they all did.” He continues with a frown. 1

“My parents were murdered along with pack members from a vicious attack.”

“Alpha I am sorry, that can’t have been easy.” He shifts slightly on his chair.

“For four years I’ve rebuild this pack, given the pack members a reason to keep going when they lost so many loved ones. I’ve kept my identity a secret to enable other packs the opportunity to break away from the clutches of the Red Stone pack. Then I hear from Alpha Ivo that their luna has the audacity to threaten your pack.”

“Yes, we have a long standing truce with the Red Stone pack and me finding Candice only made that more official. However, I know the Alpha Ivo is keen to break away. If you can guarantee your warriors should we require protection or additional man-count then from what I have seen today I am happy to recommend we join the Silver Moon alliance.”

“I can guarantee that as I do with the other packs. They would also be willing to send their men in return for you providing such aid also.” I make sure that all packs are willing to assist at short notice during a crisis.

“Then I believe Alpha Ivor will side with you Alpha, and I am happy to support him.”

“Thank you Milo.” I nod in appreciation

“She really did think you were dead. She’s in there right now blaming herself for not looking out for you, for not helping you.” Milo says as he can feel Candice’s emotions through their mate bond.

“Candice had always supported me but I had to leave for my own safety.”

“Everyone thinks you are a male.” He smirks at me.

“That is what I intended, and what I hope will not be disclosed.”

“Not by my lips, Candice’s or my Alpha’s I assure you.”

I’m keen for business talk to finish. More so because I didn’t want Milo or Candice asking too many questions surrounding the parentage of my twins.

“Shall we join the others to see what mess they have made of the kitchen?” I muse to Milo who joins me as we leave the office.

“Mummy…Candy has said I could lick the bowl.” Elspeth’s excited tones greet us as we enter the

kitchen.

“It’s beta female Elspeth or Candice…” Rex tuts at his sister.

“I’m not so formal Rex…” Candice ruffs Rex’s hair as she teases him.

“All okay!” Noah’s voice enters my mind as I watch Candice help my children destroy the clean kitchen.

“Yes, hopefully the Blue Moon is onboard.” I respond to Noah through the mind-link.

“Daddy, you can have first pick.” Elspeth proudly states as she starts to ice her cakes.

“That’s very kind princess.” He chuckles.

“Elspeth, guests first….uncle Noah second.” Rex retorts and dread feels me as I don’t miss Candice’s eyes flash at my son’s comment.
