The Fox and The Wolf
Chapter 36: Poisoned food

Avery

“Bout time.” Ashe smirked as Jake and I walked down the stairs.

“Oh shut up.” I laughed blushing.

Jake chuckled and pulled me into him. “She’s fully mine now.” He teased.

I pushed him away from me and laughed. “So where is everyone?” I asked.

“Um, John, Scott, and some other guys went to go investigate more about Sadie, and Stacy, Momma C, Lilly, Katie, and Tony went to go get some food. So it’s just me, you, Jake, David, and Liam.” Ashe said taking a seat at the kitchen table.

“We should all go out.” I said right as David and Liam came down the stairs.

“What are we doing?” David asked going straight to Ashe.

“I said that we should all go out. Like leave the house for awhile.”

“I’m down with that.” Liam smiled.

“Sure.” David nodded.

“Eh, why not.” Jake said going to the fridge.

“You’re gonna get fat if you keep eating like that. I mean seriously. You eat 24/7.” I laughed.

Jake turned around and growled at me. I just continued standing there smirking at him.

“Oh I’m sorry. Did I hurt your feelings?” I asked faking to be concerned.

“Aren’t you funny.” Jake said sticking his tongue out at me.

“Oh I know I am. But honey, you are starting to look a little fat in those jeans. Might want to watch the cheese cake.” I said as I saw him grab a slice of my mom’s homemade cheese cake.

Jake gasped and tried to look at his butt. Which caused him to go around in circles.

“My butt is not fat. And I look great in these jeans.” He defended.

“Keep telling yourself that.”

“David? Is my butt fat?” Jake asked him.

David shrugged. “Maybe a little.”

Jake growled and put the cheese cake down and went to the stairs.

“Where ya going?” I asked smiling.

“To go change, then hit the gym.” He mumbled and walked up the stairs.

I stood there laughing and Ashe joined in.

“David you might want to go too.” Ashe smiled.

David looked down at his butt too and growled at her.

“Whatever.” He said playfully and followed too.

We both turned to Liam and opened our mouths, but he cut us off when he lifted his hand.

“I know I know. I’m going.” He laughed and followed Jake and David.

“That was easy.” Ashe said grabbing the some random car key.

“Yes it was.” I laughed.

“The city?” Ashe asked with a smirk as she held up the keys.

“The city.” I said as we both ran outside.

As we got to the garage, we opened the door and a bunch of cars were in there.

“So, what car do these go too?” Ashe asked looking around.

“Um, let me see them.” I said.

Ashe handed me the keys and I pressed the unlock button.

I saw flashing lights to my left and I turned to see what car it was.

I nearly fainted right then and there.

Ashe and I gasped as we walked over to the car.

“No.” Ashe started.

“Way.” I finished for her.

In front of us was a black convertible Pagani Zonda.

“This is f@cking awesome!” Ashe yelled as she hopped in the passengers seat.

“Oh my gosh. I get to drive this thing!” I yelled as I hopped into the driver’s seat.

I pulled out of the garage and revved the engine.

“This is so cool.” Ashe complimented running her hands over the midnight blue interior.

“Well let’s go.” I smiled as I pulled out onto the pathway to the road.

“That was so much fun.” Ashe said as we got out of the car and headed into some Chinese restaurant.

“That was. Did you see the guy’s face when we pulled up next to his car?” I asked holding my stomach from laughing so hard.

“Ya. Priceless!”

We walked into the restaurant and immediately a young waiter came over to us. “Would you like a table?” He asked.

“Yes please.” I said.

Right as he turned around and led us to our table, Ashe looked at me.

“No, a floor for two please.” She whispered sarcastically.

I giggled slightly at her remark and focused on the waiter.

“Hello. My name is Jared. I will be your waiter this evening, what can I get you too lovely girls to drink?” Jared asked.

“I’ll take a sprite.” I said grabbing a menu.

“And I’ll have a pepsi please.” Ashe said.

“Of course.” He said writing everything down and turned around to leave.

“The shrimp lo mein looks good. Oh and with some crab ragoon.” I said licking my lips.

“You and shrimp. I will never understand it.” Ashe laughed. “I’m gonna have the pepper steak with some white rice.”

“You and white rice. I will never understand it.” I mocked laughing.

She stuck her tongue out at me and laughed with me.

Jared came back with our drinks and set them down. “Are you ready to order?”

“Shrimp lo mein with crab ragoon for me, and pepper steak with white rice for her please.” I said handing him our menus.

“Of course. Be right back.” Jared winked and walked away.

Once he was gone, I busted out laughing. “He looks young.”

“He does. He shouldn’t be winking at girls that are older than him.” Ashe laughed.

“Oh gosh. Men are so funny.”

“Can you imagine if the guys saw that?” Ashe asked.

“Poor Jared would be headless.” I said calming down.

“Ya. This restaurant would have one less waiter.”

Around 10 minutes later, our food has arrived.

“Here you are ladies.” Jared said putting our food down. “Anything else?”

Ashe shook her head. “No thanks.”

“Okay.” Was all he said before he walked away.

“What, no wink?” I laughed at Ashe.

“Guess he was in a hurry.” She shrugged.

I grabbed my fork and was about to stab my shrimp when I saw something and looked at it.

All of my shrimp had red lines in them. And they weren’t pale red lines, like they were bright red lines.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw about three men staring at us.

‘Ashe! Don’t eat your food!’ I yelled through the link.

She let out a startled yelp and dropped her fork.

‘Why?’ She asked.

‘Something is wrong with the food. Look at my shrimp. Shrimp is not suppose to look like that. Believe me, I would know.’

I saw her look down and her eyes went wide. ‘Why do they have those red lines?’

‘I don’t know. But look over to your left about two tables down. Do you see those guys?’

Ashe quickly looked and she quickly turned around before those men saw her.

‘The one looks familiar. The others, not so much.’ She said playing with her food to make it less suspicious.

‘We need to leave. Just follow my lead.’ I said.

She nodded and took a sip of her drink.

“Did I bring my wallet in?” I asked out loud looking through my purse.

Ashe catching on smiled at my plan. “Ya. At least I thought you did. Didn’t you put it in your purse?”

I rummaged through my purse, and put everything in there on top of my wallet. “I can’t find it.”

“Did you leave it in the car?” She asked.

The men have stopped talking and were listening to us.

“I might have.” I said continuing to look for my lost wallet.

“You keep looking in your purse and I’ll look in the car.” She said as she grabbed the keys. “I’ll be right back.”

I took a sip of my sprite and continued to look for it.

“Where are you.” I said to myself.

A minute later, Ashe came back in. “I can’t find it in the car. Can you help me?”

I nodded and grabbed my purse.

I turned to the table next to us.

“Can you please watch our table?” I asked the lady.

She smiled and nodded. “Of course dear.”

“Thank you so much. We will be right back.” I said and headed out the door with Ashe.

Ashe tossed me the keys and we got in the Zonda.

“Now that you mentioned your shrimp. My steak had a red tint on the inside. And I know they cooked it well done. So it couldn’t have been rare.” She said buckling her seat belt.

“Ya. Do you think they put something in our food?” I asked putting my seat belt on.

“They must of. The food didn’t look right.”

“Aw man. I didn’t get to eat my crab ragoon.” I pouted turning the car on.

“Suck it up. Now let’s get out of here before those guys come out.”

I nodded and put the car in drive.

I was turning around the corner of the building, but I quickly had to slam on the brakes so I didn’t hit the man in front of me.

“Oh shit. It’s one of those guys.” Ashe said.

The man turned to us and gave us a wicked smile before he pulled a gun out of his coat pocket.

“Shit!” I screamed as I hit the gas pedal.

He jumped out of the way before he got ran over, and the other two came over by him.

They all hopped into a giant van type car thing and started to follow us.

“They are following us.” Ashe groaned.

“I’ll loose ’em.” I said speeding up.

“You might want to hurry. They are catching up.” Ashe said.

I looked in the rear view mirror and sped up a little.

“We should have grabbed the food.” I said face palming myself.

“Already taken care of.” Ashe said before she took a napkin out of her purse.

She unfolded her napkin and in was two pieces of my shrimp and her steak.

“Ashe! You’re a genius!” I said smiling.

She did a small bow. “Thank you thank you. You’re too kind.”

I laughed and looked behind us. And of course they were still following us.

I sped up and quickly turned into the left turn lane and made the left turn.

I watched as they slammed on their brakes and quickly made a U-turn and followed us.

Assholes. I though to myself as they cut off a mini van.

“Turn there!” Ashe pointed.

I looked to where she pointed, and it was a road that led to a highway.

I turned right, and went through a red light.

Oops.

The guys were cut off when a semi pulled out in front of them.

“That was close.” Ashe said.

“Ya. Too close.” I said looking in the rear view mirror.
