Chapter 13: Thank you Katie

Avery

“I’m so stupid.” I said while I was pacing back and forth.

After that huge fight, I brought Lilly and I back to our spot. She had her feet in the river and was playing with all of the flowers.

“Avery, you’re thinking too much.” Lilly said turning around.

“How? My entire secret just got out Lilly!” My voice raising. “This is bad. Very very bad.”

She smiled at me. “You’re the Luna or whatever it’s called. Jake loves you and so does everyone else. They won’t hurt you.”

I didn’t understand how they could love me but I let it go and gave her a small smile. “Thanks.”

“Avery?” I jumped and turned around at whoever was there.

I saw Liam standing there with a lot of other men there. “Yes?”

They all walked forward. They aren’t going to kill me are they? I mean, Liam never really liked me, and from what I was told, Liam is the Third. So he must have some power and that means he could control these other guys. And all of the guys are bigger and stronger than I am. And that means-

“Avery?” Liam asked chuckling as he waved his hand in front of my face.

“Sorry. I was just thinking about something.” I said shyly.

“You can tell me if you want.” He said while him and all of the other guys sat down.

This is strange. They’re really powerful men and they’re just sitting there and even some of them are playing with the flowers. They look so carefree.

“Uh.” I said looking down. “I was thinking about how all of you could kill me.”

All of them just stared at me and busted out laughing.

“W-why would we k-kill you?” Liam asked in between laughs.

“Well for one, you guys are all like ten times my size, and you really didn’t like me in the beginning.”

He sheepishly scratched the back of his head. “Go tell Jake we will be there soon.”

“Yes Third.” The men said and all of them got up and left.

“Well I only said that because you said it too. And you seemed to really hate me. And I was just really upset when you told me that and it kinda just flew out of my mouth.”

“Why were you upset?”

“Well it was mostly sadness I guess you could say. But hey, can you blame me? Your Luna just told you that she didn’t like you. You’re gonna be sad and upset.”

“Oh that’s right. All of you guys knew.”

“Ya. So I’m sorry. I secretly did really like you. I just didn’t want to show you or tell you until you said it first.”

“You could have told me. It would have been a lot easier.” I scowled. “You kept tackling me and throwing me over your shoulder. Not to mention how you took Lilly from me. Twice!”

“Sorry again. And sorry Lilly.”

I gave him a small smile. “I forgive you.”

Lilly shrugged. “It’s okay.”

Liam looked shocked. “You’re forgiving me that easily?”

“Ya why not. Couple reasons, you’re a werewolf and you could easily kill me, second, my sister is the Luna and if she can forgive you, I can too. And lastly, you’re really cute.”

Liam laughed. “Why thank you Lilly. You’re really cute too.”

Her face got red. “Ya but you’re too old for me.” She pouted.

“Aww Lilly.” Liam said before pulling her into a hug.

She cuddled up too him and soon fell asleep.

I smiled at them. This was too cute. “Thanks Liam.”

He looked confused. “For what?”

“For being here I guess.” I shrugged and looked at the waterfall.

“Anytime Avery. Ready to head back?” He asked getting up.

I shook my head. “I’m gonna stay here for a couple minutes. But you can head back.”

He looked hesitant to leave me alone but nodded anyway. “Okay. Be careful.”

“I will.”

Once Liam left, I looked over the river. I wonder if I will be a freak now? But just because I can shift into a fox doesn’t mean I’ll be a freak right?

I was cut off once again when I heard tiny footsteps. I smiled and shook my head. Probably Lilly.

I turned around and saw Katie instead.

“Katie?”

She smiled and sat down next to me. “You’re giving Jake a heart attack you know that right?”

I laughed at her. “I didn’t. But I do now.”

She giggled. “He’s just worrying. All the guards are getting a kick out of it.”

“How so?”

“He’s one of the most feared alphas out there and here he is acting like a little kid who can’t find his Halloween candy.”

My body was shaking because I was trying so hard not to laugh. “That was an accurate statement.”

She laughed. “He does love you.”

I gave her a funny look. “How? I’ve caused his life hell.” I muttered.

She placed a hand on my shoulder and I looked up in her pale blue eyes. “And he loves that about you. It kept him on his feet.” I laughed at that part. “But he honestly does love you. Everyone can see it. He has this….look in his eyes every time he sees you. It’s not just because of the mate pull. His eyes, heck his entire face lights up whenever he sees you. When he first told us that he found you, he was talking so highly of you. He had this huge smile on his face whenever he said your name. I wish my mate’s face will be like that if he ever talks about me.”

I pulled Katie into a giant hug. “Thank you Katie.”

“Duh. You’ll be my sister-in-law soon. And to be honest. I like you better than the other girls.”

I froze. “I thought he said he wasn’t with any other girls.” I could feel my anger rising up.

“He wasn’t. But I’ve seen the girls that take an interest in him. They all like him because of his looks and his alpha title.”

“Ohhhh.”

“Ya.” She laughed. “I like you way better.”

“Thanks.” I said giving her a hug. “We should probably go before Jake has a panic attack.”

“Probably.” She said standing up with me.

It took about ten minutes to get back. Once we got back, we noticed no one was outside.

We looks at each other before walking in the house and saw everyone looking like a nervous wreck.

“Oh my gosh. Avery.” David said running up to me and crushing me in a hug.

“Too…..tight…..can’t…..breathe….” I got out.

“Oops.” He said putting me down. “Sorry. Thanks goodness you are here. Jake is so nervous. And upset about you leaving his sight Katie.”

“Sorry.” Katie mumbled before she walked over to her parents.

“I’ll fix this.” I told David.

I saw Jake pacing and a nervous looking Liam. Even the other guards look nervous.

“What if she died?” Jake asked himself.

“Jake?” I said walking towards him.

“What if she ran away again?”

“Jake?” I tried again.

“But she wouldn’t leave Lilly behind.” He said running a hand through his hair.

“Jake?” I tried once again.

“What if her fox took over?”

“Jake?”

“What if a rogue kidnapped her?”

“Jake?!”

“Not now Avery. I’m trying to find Avery. I hope she is okay.”

1….2….3…

“Avery!” Jake yelled and crushed me to his chest.

Not again.

“Can’t….breathe….” I said trying to get air into my lungs.

“I don’t care.” He mumbled in my neck and squeezed me tighter.

“Help…..me….”

“Alpha! She can’t breathe.” Some random guy said.

Jake’s head snapped up and he released his grip. “Oh. Sorry.”

“It’s fine.” I waved him off.

“I’m so glad you are okay. I thought you got kidnapped, or eaten, or somehow died, or your fox took control, or-” I cut him off when I placed my hand over his mouth.

“Jake?” I asked.

“Hmm?” He hummed in reply.

“Shut up.” I laughed.

His shoulders shook with laughter and then I felt something wet on my hand.

“Ew!” I screamed and wiped my hand on David’s shirt. “That’s nasty!”

“Better get used to it.” He shrugged.

“What do you….” I trailed off when I saw his eyes darken with I think was lust and hunger and saw him smirk. “Jake!” I yelled and hit him in the back of the head.

“Ow. What was that for?” He asked rubbing the back of his head.

“You know exactly what that was for.”

“I didn’t say anything bad.” He defended.

“You said it out in public where everyone can hear it.”

He smirked again and I think I should have chosen those words differently. “Okay. Noted. Only say it in the bedroom.” And with he ran into the living room.

“Jake!” I screamed and chased after him.
