Chapter 48

HENRIETTA

Never before had I experienced such a nerve-wracking sensation. My steps as I walked down the aisle felt heavy. For some reason, I felt more nervous walking down the aisle and seeing Andreas at the end of it than when I was waiting for Philip to announce me as his bride.

Myrna and Yvette have already placed the manor in the market for sale and even as it hurts me, I couldn’t do anything to save it. Not now. Not yet. When I told them I wished to get married in the manor as my farewell, Myrna and Yvette agreed, happily obliging to my wish as they knew they were winning.

But that will change.

My eyes went to where they were sitting. Yvette was clad in a silver dress- very much closer to the white I was wearing and when our eyes met, I could have sworn her smug smile slipped. Both of them were looking at me as though they were genuinely happy with what I ended up with. But I already know better.

I averted my gaze from them and focused on the end of the aisle. Andreas stood at the foot of the dais and Aiden stood behind him. However, I did not expect Philip to be standing next to Aiden and when I met his gaze, he gave me a knowing look.

My hands clenched with the bouquet I was holding as I recalled the conversation we had. Philip’s audacity to ask. me to become his Luna was something I could not fathom. How easy is it for him to switch between women as if they were his clothes?

When my eyes went to the altar, I saw the Alpha King who was watching my every step. His smile was so wide that his happiness was palpable. According to Philip, it was the Alpha King who pushed him to marry Yvette who was a pureblooded wolf. Yvette was the convenient choice for them as they didn’t know anything. When they thought they could get my father’s wealth, they didn’t know anything at all.

I’ve stayed too low, too unnoticed, that they don’t see me as a threat. They think I would just stand idly and watch my father’s empire burn to ashes.

Rage threatened to consume me but I took a deep breath and continued walking. The wedding march sounded so romantic that my eyes met Andreas. He was looking at me in a way that made me want to stop walking and just turn around to hide the blush that would taint my cheeks. Despite the fury that threatened to come out, it was instantly surpassed by the way his intense gaze made me feel.

think I was actually affected by all this when this is just for show.

Walking down the aisle felt like forever, however, I kept my back straightened and my eyes only on Andreas. It was baffling how his gaze could offer immediate comfort- as though he knew what I was struggling with deep inside and that I wasn’t alone. That he is there and ready to save me should I need it.

Thinking about it made me smile a little and when I reached where he stood, he offered me his hand which I gladly took.

“I forgot to tell you that you look marvelous in that dress,” he said, his voice almost a whisper but from the way I heard Aiden groan, I think he heard it. I supposed Philip heard it too but remained silent.

Andreas guided me to the altar to face the Alpha King who smiled at us both.

“The beloved guests, we are gathered here today to celebrate the commitment between my son, Andreas, and Lady Henrietta Silvana. Today, we shall witness the union of two souls bound by fate and coming together to

create new chapters in their lives”

He smiled at everyone but I could not bring myself to smile. Not when I could hear Yvtte cheering as if we were long-time friends and that nothing happened.

“Let us acknowledge and celebrate the union of two souls that.” The Alpha King smiled in my direction.

“Andreas and Henrietta, today marks the significant journey of our life. The moon goddess will bless those who love and she will bless you like how she did to the ones that came before you. Do the both of you acknowledge your differences and be with each other no matter what happens?”

I felt Andreas squeezing my hand before he responded with, “Yes.”

The Alpha King looked at me and I swallowed hard before I answered, “Yes, I do.”

“As the Alpha King of this Kingdom, I shall stand here and bless your union on behalf of the moon goddess.”

Andreas took out a ring– a ring more beautiful than the one he gave me during his proposal. Its colors shone under the bright sunshine and I could not take my eyes off it. The stone was smaller but it was perfect.

“Andreas and Henrietta, you may now bind your fate,” the King said

Andreas gently slid the ring onto my finger, his gaze unwavering as he sealed our union. With a tender smile, I reached for the second ring-a simple band, yet radiant in its own right. Placing it on Andreas ‘s finger, I felt a surge of emotion, my hands trembling with the weight of the moment. His reassuring chuckle reverberated through me as he squeezed my hand, drawing my gaze to meet his.

“You’re doing well,” he mouthed and I bit my lip as I nodded, relaxing for a bit.

the Alpha King as he started to talk about how the moon goddess matches everyone and that everyone has their own happy ending. My head was swimming, partly because I could not believe I was finally married and partly because I was getting closer to my plans.

“Henrietta?” called Andreas, pulling me out of my thoughts. I blinked and looked at him. Suddenly, he stepped closer and leaned to whisper. “I’m about to kiss you.”

I hitched my breath and froze in place. I could feel his fingers on my back, pulling me close until I felt my pressed against his.

“Just to let you know I am not going for a featherlight kiss,” he said and leaned back, his eyes surveying my face until it finally landed on my mouth. “I plan not to hold back.”

The promise made my toes curl and then he leaned in to capture my mouth with his. If the guests.

ests were clapping or not, I was not sure. Are grooms supposed to kiss brides like how Andreas was kissing me? However, I stopped thinking straight. My mind was in a haze as I continued to feel him deepening the kiss and I found myself answering it with the same intensity.

And then finally he pulled away and we were both panting. He let out a smirk and I looked at him, almost glaring. When we both faced the guests, that’s when I heard the clapping and the people cheering for us. I took a deep breath, calming myself after the kiss.

I stepped forward and looked at my stepmother and stepsister. They were clapping their hands as though they were genuinely happy. I gave them a smile.

“Mother, Yvette,” I started. “This wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for your permission.”

The smile on their faces vanished, dubious about my statement. But I gave them a sweet smile, telling them!

was sincere.

“I married the man I want to marry because of you and I shall be forever grateful. Good things have happened but as they say, not all good things last.”

Confusion was visible in their eyes as Andreas handed me a piece of paper.

“When my father died, it was true that he left everything under your name, being his wife, but Myrna, I am the legitimate daughter. By law, I have more chances of getting my father’s properties.”

“What are you talking about–‘

I raised my hand and showed them the scroll. “However, my father must have known. My father must have seen a glimpse of who you truly are and gave me this piece of paper. The thing he’s left me without your knowledge. I planned to keep this and not let this out but you made me do this.”

Andreas signaled discreetly, and the Palace Chief Advisor swiftly approached, extending a hand to receive the document from my trembling fingers. The room fell into a hushed silence, broken only by the shuffling of feet and the rustle of fabric as everyone turned their attention to the unfolding scene. Philip and the Alpha King exchanged puzzled glances, their brows furrowed in confusion as they looked at the Chief Advisor and at the

document now in his hands.

“What is it?” inquired the Alpha King, his tone tinged with curiosity and concern, as he leaned forward in his ornate chair, his piercing gaze fixed on the aged parchment clasped in the Advisor’s grasp.

“It’s a conditional will, Your Majesty,” the Advisor declared solemnly, his voice echoing across the grand hall, each word weighted with significance. “Written by the late Lord Silvana himself.”

A-collective murmur erupted. The Alpha King said, “What conditional will?”

“What do you mean to say?” asked Philip.

“The will, penned by the late Lord Silvana, contains a pivotal clause,” the Advisor began, his voice carrying the solemnity of the moment. “It stipulates that Lady Henrietta, despite currently possessing nothing in her name, shall inherit the entirety of Lord Silvana’s vast estate and wealth upon her marriage. Furthermore, it explicitly designates Lady Myrna as a temporary custodian, with the understanding that once Lady Henrietta fulfills her marital duty, she will rightfully assume ownership of all assets under her name.”

“Which means there is nothing under Lady Myrna’s name now that Lady Henrietta has married Andreas?”

The Advisor nodded.

Gasps echoed even as the space was open but I held my head high. Myrna got up from her chair.

“This is utterly ridiculous! That money was left to me by your father. I am his wife and I shall have them.””

“I am

afraid not,” Andreas interrupted. “This conditional revokes everything that was left under your name.”

The Palace Advisor stepped in. “Your ownership amongst the Silvana properties was temporary until Lady Henrietta married someone. I am afraid, this is what was stated in the conditional will, Lady Myrna.”

Yvette looked scared as she clung to her mother. Myrna and Yvette looked at me. “You–You did this. How could you do this to the woman who took care of you when you were younger?”

I smiled at them. “I made a promise, haven’t I?”

Myrna’s face paled as I went on, “And you stopped treating me like family the moment you took everything from me. Now, I am taking everything back as the rightful owner of my father’s inheritance.”
