I paced around as I waited for my mom to arrive. I had barely touched my food,my mind was running wild with so many questions. If Jack was willing to sacrifice more than half of the people of AGUA then that meant we could all die. Me,my mom,Lilah ,Sam and everybody else.

“Aria, why are you pacing and why is your food still on the table barely touched?" my mom asked with a scolding face but I ignored it.

“Mom! Mom you won’t believe this but we might all die in the next few days,” I blurted out facing her.

She sighed walking towards me “what are you talking about Aria?”

“I heard the council men talking, they plan on putting a few people in the pods while everyone else dies.We might be part of everyone else that dies mom!” I exclaimed in anger waiting for her response. She didn’t even look shocked or angry.

Why wasn’t she shocked, “seriously mom you have to believe me!I am telling you the truth!” I held her hands begging her to believe me.She needed to take me seriously on this, my heart was already pounding with fear.

She looked at me with an emotion I didn’t understand, regret, pity and sadness “I am sorry you had to find out this way honey. I really wanted to tell you but I just didn’t think it was the right time yet,″

I scrunched up my eyebrows in confusion “what do you mean by all of this, you knew?”

“Yes, I knew about this. I was asked to join the survival team expedition. They need only the useful members of AGUA for our journey back to the land. I’m part of the medical and nutritionist team. That is why I have been training you so hard Aria.” She said squeezing my hands for comfort.

I shook my head, this wasn’t right. My mother and the whole council have been planning this all this time. Preparing to go back on land? “No,you are lying. The land? Where is the land? It cannot possibly be Gordo,we will die there. What if the red virus is still there? This doesn’t make sense, why are we leaving AGUA. I am sure the engineers can fix whatever is wrong mom.”

“That’s the problem honey ,this problem cannot be fixed. Trust me we have been trying for five years now. The only option left is to leave this place before it falls apart."she said.

“Five years and you haven’t told anyone else? The people deserve to know! How are you even choosing who goes and who dies!” I said in anger,I couldn’t believe my own mother was part of this nightmare.I couldn’t believe they were keeping something this big a secret from thousands of people.

She sighed “Honey listen,we cannot tell people because if we tell people they will start panicking and when people start panicking bad things start happening. Bad things we cannot control and we can’t let that happen. People will kill each other just to get to those pods. People have already been chosen Aria. The human race needs to survive and it can only survive with the strongest people alive. You know what I mean ,I have been teaching you this almost every day”

I took a step away from her 'survival of the fittest' ,she meant they had probably picked the best medical team, best engineers, farmers and mixed genders for the reproduction process. “There is no way I’m going to let you kill thousands of people by leaving them here to die. People should have a choice in this! You can’t just choose for them mother. This is absolutely insane.”

“I can’t let that happen Aria,I can’t let you start a panic in AGUA.“she said

“So what,I should just let my useless friends die!” I said sarcastically

She moved closer to me “okay we will tell them,we will give the people a choice.”

I smiled at her. I knew my mother was good, this was her-she would never let people die that way. “Really!” I said moving closer to her. She nodded giving me a hug “Thank you so much mom." I said hugging her tight.I had to believe my mother wasn't a monster...

My smile dropped as I felt a sudden prick on my neck. “I am sorry Aria. I love you." she said softly as I collapsed in her arms and everything went black.

CLARKE’S POV

Clarke sighed as she left her daughter unconscious on her bed. She knew somehow what she had done was wrong but she couldn’t let her daughter be at risk of being left when AGUA fell apart. She wouldn’t be able to survive another major loss.

She left their home ,a two bedroom apartment. It was fairly neat with everything they needed. These homes were just there for privacy not anything fancier. She made her way to Jack’s office.

Jack didn’t take long to answer “Clarke come on in!”

Jack was her late husband’s brother. He has always been there for Clarke and Aria even though sometimes he was a bit harder on Aria. Well Aria had a thing for causing trouble and Clarke was kind of great full for Jack’s strict behavior towards Aria. He always put her back in line.

“She knows” Clarke said with a hint of worry in her voice “and I put her to sleep,up until we leave. I feel so bad Jack!”

Jack moved closer to her and held her shaking hands softly “hey it’s okay, you did the right thing. I know Aria, she would have told everyone and we wouldn’t be here. We would all be dead including Aria. You did what you had to do for the people you love.” he reassured her.

“She won’t forgive me for this Jack.” she said sadly. Clarke knew her daughter well enough to know that she could hold a grudge for ages. Aria had a bad temper thanks to her father.

Jack sighed “Would you forgive yourself if you had let her do something reckless that would get her killed”

He was right ,she would have never lived with that. Clarke smiled “you are right as always. This is the right thing.”

Even if it meant letting thousands die for the survival of the human race.
