My Luna

They lay there blissfully happy at that moment, not thinking about everything that had happened. Not going over every problem yet to face. Not thinking about how to help Bella and not save their kind, just peacefully happy for one brief moment. Both of them wishing they could freeze time and stay in this moment.

“If you come shower with me, I will feed you.” Colin purrs in her ear, making her smile.

“If I shower with you, we will never get to eat.” She giggles back.

“Would that be so bad?” He asks, still stroking her hair.

“No.” is her simple reply as she holds him tighter.

“I promise to be on my best behavior.” He smirks, and she can hear him smiling.

“I am hungry.” She wiggles but he only holds her tight, hating to let go.

He kisses the top of her head and neither of them try and move, both wanting to stay as they are and forget about the world.

The next day comes too quickly, and Moon is swept away in the bustle of getting ready. There is socializing to do and Luna’s for her to entertain. She didn’t want to face them, and her own. The room of, Luna’s, is not something anyone should face alone, so she roped Emily into going with her. Emily is far more poised than Moon has ever been. She wants Emily to keep her from saying or doing anything wrong. All the times Moon was forced to do something she hated, she relied on playing dumb and acting like she didn’t care what anyone thought. Now she has to care.

“Em, thanks for going with me,” Moon says low, watching her feet as they walk down the hall.

“Of course, you can’t face all those women alone. That would be suicide.” Emily giggles. “You will do fine.”

“Yeah, so long as I don’t act like myself.” Moon groans.

“No, you will do fine if you just be yourself.” Emily stops looking at her thoughtfully. “You are wonderful. They will see that. I’m sorry we made you feel like you had to be something you never were. You are a leader and always have been. We were just too dumb to see how strong you have always been.”

Moon can’t find any words, so she hugs her instead. “Thanks, Em.”

The hours of small talk and fake smiles are more than anyone should be subjected to. Moon did well with the other Lunas and only knocked over one tea tray. Luckily Emily was there to assure her that everything was fine. Bella and Sam came running in only once, begging to go to the park. Ann kindly offered to take them, and the rest of the meet and greet went smoothly.

When she and Emily leave it, she is already so tired she’s unsure how she will be awake for the rest of the day, let alone the ceremony tonight.

“Come on.” Emily pulls Moon’s arm, making her stumble as she’s turns down another hall heading to Emily’s apartment in the beta wing.

“What are we doing?” Moon asks, confused.

“I had Ann get your things and take them to my apartment to get you ready there. Also, I need a glass of wine after all that. I have never seen so much fake niceness in my whole life. If fake smiles could kill, half those women would be dead.” Emily laughs, and Moon joins in as they walk into Emily and Ben’s apartment. Ben and Rose are gone for the afternoon visiting his mother. Seeing Rose helps her with losing her mate and gives her something to focus on, so Ben and his sister often visit with their children.

Moon and Emily giggle the rest of the afternoon about the Lunas and get ready for dinner. Moon had just finished getting herself into her dress, looking herself over one last time. Emily did her hair and makeup for her, and Moon almost didn’t recognize herself. The dark blue formal dress is something Moon would have never worn, and she’s sure Emily picked it out. It was tastefully revealing with its open back and thin straps. Moon is just happy it isn’t some puffy princess dress. It clings to her curves and floor length, making her look tall and elegant.

The knock at the apartment door makes her leave Emily’s room to see who it is. She’s surprised to see Colin standing there in the doorway. Looking dapper dressed in a dark blue button down shirt that matches the color of her dress.

“I came to collect my Luna.” He says, smiling in approval of her. “She is beautiful, isn’t she?” he asks Emily, never taking his eyes off Moon.

“Yes, she is,” Emily replies, smiling at Moon making her blush at the praise.

Colin holds out his hand, and Moon walks over to him, careful not to trip over the long dress taking his hand. He leans in, kissing her softly.

“My Luna.” He whispers, pulling away and making her heart flutter. “Time to go.”

Walking into the dining hall, Moon’s heart is racing with anxiety, but Colin never leaves her side, stopping her anytime she stumbles. Moon made a mental note to never let Emily pick out her shoes again. The four-inch stilettos are more than she can handle.

The evening went by in a blur of activity and people. The dining hall had been turned into a ballroom with round tables scattered at one end of the room where dinner is served. Moon feels funny about seeing Ann waiting tables serving food with the other omegas, but the older woman seems to enjoy it. She has everything running like a well-oiled machine, and Moon knows she will be the person to help her with every event in the future.

After dinner, people take to the dance floor soft formal sounding music playing. The event seems to have impressed everyone in attendance. Colin half-expected a fight to break out at some point. Still, even the pack Alphas that don’t like one another keep everything civil the only pack that is not represented was Caleb’s, and that was no surprise.

“I tell you, Alpha Colin, you throw a good party,” David says, smiling as he joins their table for a moment. “I haven’t seen all of the packs together like this for anyone.”

“Well, you helped with that, calling in a few favors. So, thank you, Alpha David.” Colin replies.

“Hey, what are friends for, right? I know we didn’t always see eye to eye, but I think this is important. I can’t sit by and watch us destroy ourselves, and my dad would kick my ass if I did.” David laughs; he even has Colin smiling. “Aren’t you two going to dance?” he asks, eyeing them and smirking. Moon is about to refuse when Colin answers.

“That is a wonderful idea. Luna?” he stands, holding out his hand to her. Moon is gaping, dumbstruck.

“I’m not a very good dancer.” She confesses feeling shy suddenly.

“Good thing I am.” He smirks, winking at her. She takes his hand and lets him lead her to the floor. People make space for them. He takes her around the waist when they reach the middle of the floor. She thought he was joking when he said he was a good dancer, but he was telling the truth.

“You are the most beautiful Luna hear, and you are all mine.” He purrs in her ear as they dance, making her blush hard and wonder how on earth she got so lucky that she gets to be his.
