Chapter 73

Red Wolf

Bella kept following after Sam, worrying that he might get hurt. She didn’t want him to be alone out here. The sound of howling wolves made her shiver and clutch bunny tighter to her chest.

“Sam, what are you doing? Please, let’s go home.” Bella pleads as she runs to catch up with him.

“No, you go back. I want to help my dad.” Sam stated, determined, but as he looks back over his shoulder, he feels sorry for how scared Bella looks as she follows after him. “Just go back, Bella. I will be fine. I’m brave, just like my dad.”

“Yeah, but you aren’t as big as he is,” Bella argues, making Sam frown.

“I will be someday.” He huffs.

“Not if you get killed out here.” She shoots back, still hugging bunny close to her. Sam simply rolls his eyes. He is determined to be braver this time around, wanting to show everyone that he isn’t afraid but mostly prove it to himself.

Moon takes off running through the woods. At first, she still isn’t sure where she is going, but she can hear the sounds of fighting still, and it’s different than the shadows of memories she just saw. The dark woods seem more familiar as she races to the sounds. She suddenly hears the ear-piercing scream and instantly knows who it belongs to.

“Bella!” She yells, shifting and running faster. Kiara is not about to let anything happen to her little one.

Faster, we need to find her. Moon presses her to run even quicker, and Kiara digs in, pushing her muscles to the limit. When she burst through the trees, she can see Sam standing next to the frightened Bella, stick in hand, swinging it wildly at the wolf stocking forward. Its shoulders are hunched, and head is down, ready to lunge.

STOP! Kiara tries, but the wolf pays no mind to her. The command has no effect on the wolf.

Why didn’t that work? Moon asks Kiara.

I don’t know! We will think about it later though. she replies, jumping in front of the advancing wolf.

She snaps her jaws threateningly as more wolves circle around them.

“Well, look what we have here?” A man says, stepping around the tree.

Caleb, great he is here. Moon thinks now would be a good time to end him permanently.

I like that idea. Kiara agrees completely. She would love to destroy him after shooting Colin.

“Your little alpha command won’t work on any of us, thanks to a friend,” He snickers. Kiara just growls, and when he shifts, the fight is on. Wolves attack Moon from every side and try to get to the Children. Sam grabs Bella’s hand and pulls her out of the way just in time, but she screams again.

A wolf snapped at their heels, and Kiara sank her teeth into his shoulder, shaking him like a rag doll. Moon has already linked Colin, letting him know the children are in danger. He is quickly trying to get to them but having problems of his own as well, fighting off more wolves than one should be able to manage.

Bella is shaking in fear and beginning to hyperventilate. Sam is doing his best to pull her to safety, but every path he tries is blocked by more wolves. They are quickly becoming overwhelmed. Bella grips bunny tighter, but a wolf crashes into the children knocking them down, and bunny flies out of her arms. She sits up and scoots on her butt, trying to escape the wolf. Sam isn’t getting up and looks far too still and quiet, making her breathe even faster. When she screams again, the wolf starts to back away from her. Something strange begins to happen.

Bella starts to glow from the inside out, and her little body begins to change just as Sam sits up and groans. Bella is changing in front of him. He moves away from her in shock so does the other wolf. It takes such a short time, and she screams the whole time. Moon is watching in shock as well as the child shifts to something she never could have imagined. The wolf is no pup and is enormous. Its reddish-orange fur glowing like flames.

What is she? Kiara and the others are still frozen in shock, but one decides that trying to attack is its best option. When the wolf snaps, the attacking wolf jumps back. The wolf howls and steps forward. Kiara takes this opportunity to attack Caleb, catching him off guard. The two snap and rip at one another with claws and teeth. The great red wolf races forward when another wolf threatens Sam again. Every step of its paws causes the ground under them to scorch and burn. She truly is burning like the sun.

What in the hell is that child? Caleb wonders. I have never seen anything like this before. How is this possible?

Farrells massive black form flies through the trees and lands on Caleb, knocking him well away from Moon and the burning wolf.

Moon, what is going on? He links her.

That would be Bella, and I’m just as lost as you are, but we will figure it out later. She replies quickly. She and Colin now have Caleb pinned as Bella keeps wolves off Sam.

Moon can smell the burnt leaves every time Bella’s wolf takes a step; it’s just as big as she and Colin, and Moon is having a hard time wrapping her head around it.

Caleb seems to realize that he is suddenly on the losing end of things and sends wolves to attack Colin and Moon. The moment they are preoccupied fighting off the attacking wolves, he tucks his tail and runs for it, but Moon and Colin are powerless to stop him.

Kiara tries to give chase hating that Caleb is escaping them yet again, but she is blocked at every turn. A wolf howls in the distance, and the attacking wolves scatter, fleeing quickly. Bella’s red wolf slowly shifts back when the last wolf escapes. Chris arrives just as Bella hits the ground. Colin had linked him telling him to get there quickly, and he did with a blanket in one hand and a shirt and shorts in the other. Colin shifts, and Chris tosses the clothes to him.

“What did I just see? Did Bella… Did she really? What was that?” he can’t find the words to even ask a complete sentence.

“She must be like me.” Moon shifted behind the tree, and Colin gave her his shirt.

Bella lays still and quiet on the ground, and Chris is almost afraid to get too close to her. Colin grabs the blanket and wraps the child in it. Her skin feels hot, and her hair is stuck to her face with sweat.

Moon helps Sam to his feet, “Are you hurt?” he simply shakes his head, still staring open-mouthed at Bella. He picks bunny up off the ground, brushing it off. “let’s get out of here. Caleb has decided to run away again anyway.” Moon glares in the direction he ran in. Colin agrees with her and wants to get Bella to Doc even though he is sure Doc won’t be able to do anything for the child.

This all got even stranger than it already was. Kiara, can you call Selene and get her to meet us? I have somethings I would like to ask her, and I’m getting tired of people and gods not telling me everything.

Kiara nods in agreement. I hope she is in a talkative mood because I also want to know what that was.
