Like the Moon

She sat there dumbfounded for a long moment. Could she be used as a weapon? Moon just couldn’t see how that could even be possible. Kiara could be cranky but not cruel. She is protective and sweet from the little Moon has managed to get to know her. Moon could feel Kiara like she is a part of herself now, and she is sure her wolf is nothing like Jake describes.

“That still doesn’t tell us what Mark did to suppress her wolf and how to fix it,” Colin demands, and while his face is still an unreadable mask, his tone is laced with anger and frustration.

“I can’t tell you what I don’t know,” Jake responds, still eyeing Colin suspiciously. “Just hope you aren’t what Mark was afraid of.”

Colin shoots up from his seat, clearly angry at the accusation Jake Woods is making. “How dare you think I would use her for my own gain.” He bellows at the man, his eyes darkening. He has been close to the edge, and that was all the push he needed to completely lose control of his emotions. When Moon stands up and puts herself in front of him, blocking Jake from view, Colin is horrified to see the hurt in her eyes. Is she hurt because he lost his temper? Is she disappointed in him? Is she seeing him for the monster he is at last? Colin’s mind races.

“I think we have had enough for the day, Jake. Thank you for telling me what you can, but I need a break from all of this.” Moon is calm and doesn’t turn to look at Jake.

“Moon, do you have Mark’s journals?” Jake asks quietly. He’s lost some of his nerve being faced with Colin’s temper had an effect on the aging Beta.

“No, they are locked in Gramp’s room.” Moon still doesn’t turn to look at him, just watching Colin, who is still fighting to keep hold of himself.

“Well, I would suggest that you get them. Those will be the best way to find out what he did for sure. I knew some witches, but even they said they couldn’t or wouldn’t help Mark. He managed to find a few that would. He would have written all of it down. I know he didn’t want for you to lose your wolf forever, and he thought he was doing the right thing. I’m sure he would have told you how to undo what was done if.” Jake doesn’t finish the sentence.

“Thank you, Jake. I think maybe we should talk more later. I will think about going and getting the journals.” Moon says. Jake gets up slowly, and he and Ben head for the door without looking at Colin, primarily out of fear. Jake is sure that Moon standing in Colin’s way is the only thing stopping Colin at the moment. Once they leave the room, He finally begins to breathe normally again.

“Are you going to be okay now?” Moon finally asks after the door closes, and Colin looks slightly more relaxed.

“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to get so angry, but he thought I was trying to use you or grrr that I was….” Colin starts to get worked up again thinking that Jake is accusing him of being some kind of monster.

“Will you just stop and hold me already.” Moon huffs in aggravation, and before Colin answers, she has him wrapped in her arms. He can feel her shudder, and he only feels worse, realizing he wasn’t thinking of how she must be feeling after hearing that Mark did this to her because he was afraid of what she could do.

Colin wraps his arms around her protectively, holding her to him, and he can feel her begin to cry. He’s noticed that crying isn’t something he had seen her do before today. She had been bruised and nearly killed three times, and she never cried or even seemed to care how physically hurt she was. Moon just took it and carried on. How used to pain and discomfort is she? How used to being overlooked is she? He even overlooked her feelings just moments ago, getting angry at Jake for what he was being accused of.

“I’m sorry. I’m a thoughtless ass.” Colin groans, still kicking himself. Farrell is whimpering now, realizing he is no better than Colin. He is just angry about what Jake thought of him, not because he was saying that Moon was dangerous and this was done to her by the person that loved her the most.

We might be the worst mates ever. Farrell whines, slumping in the corner of Colin’s mind.

“Moon. I’m sorry, Love.” Colin tries, but Moon just buries her face into his chest.

“I’m not mad at you; Jake shouldn’t have implied that you were someone Gramps was afraid would find me. Am I a monster? Am I bad? Am I really just a weapon for people to use? How could I be any of that?” Moon’s voice is muffled, with her face buried into him, and she sniffles every now and then, still crying.

“No, kitten, you are far from any of those things. You are strong and brave but so warm and loving. You are just as constant as the moon shining in the dark.” Colin replies

“The moon always changes.” Her words are still muffled as she tightens her grip around Colin.

“It doesn’t, though, not really; how we see it changes. The moon is always the same. We just see it differently. The moon is constant and always the same moon, just in a different light. You are the same. You are always you, and I love that.”

Moon looks up, at Colin, at last, her face tear-stained, but her large bright eyes look just as beautiful to Colin as the first time he saw them. He wipes the last tear away, gently kissing her soft lips. Wishing that he could just stop time and keep this moment of her here with him. His only hope is that he helped her even in the slightest way, he knows that she has already helped him far more than he could ever hope to help her. He was lost in the dark, and she has been his light.
