Interruptions

Moon was pulled closer and closer in Colin’s arms; he is so warm, and she wants nothing more than to be as close to him as possible. He pulls her even closer, kissing her, his tongue slipping into her mouth. He has her in his lap, and Moon can feel how much he wants to continue. She is lost the ability to think clearly at this point. Kiara is softly humming in Moon’s mind, but she still seems to be mostly asleep.

The loud knock on the door startles Moon, and she jumps a little, breaking the contact of their lips. Colin only holds her, not letting her leave his lap.

“They can go away.” Colin half growls at the door.

The knock persists, and Moon half-smiles at him. “Seems like it must be important.” She says, only making him growl again, as he hugs her to his chest and nuzzles his face into her neck. When he starts lightly kissing her neck. The person at the door knocks even harder.

“I don’t think they are going away.” Moon giggles, his warm mouth caressing her neck and kissing her, is sending goosebumps down her skin and making her shutter. Her stomach is in knots, and she would love for whoever is at the door to leave too, but it must be important.

Moon slides out of his arms, and he groans at the loss of her in his lap.

I’m going to kill whoever it is. Farrell is fuming in Colin’s mind, and it is not helping Colin remain calm. He had his block up and instructed Chriss that he didn’t want any interruptions.

Colin stands and tries to hide the discomfort in the action as he takes a deep breath and moves to the door. Moon is sitting in her seat again, pushing pasta around her plate, trying to distract herself.

As he walks to the door, he lets his mental block down to be bombarded with several voices at once. Opening the door to see Chris standing there, sets off alarm bells for Colin.

“What is it, Chris? What is happening?” Colin interrogates.

Chris looks over Colin’s shoulder to look at Moon, and Colin moves a bit to block his view of her.

“I think we talk on the way.” Chris says, “I’m sorry to interrupt, but it’s important. I think we got a message, and you are not going to like it.

“What happened?” Moon is standing and walking over to join them. The slightly panicked look on Chris’s face makes Colin uneasy.

Colin turns to Moon, “I’m sorry something has come up, and I need to go with Chris.” Colin brushes the hair from her face. “I’ll be right back, okay?”

“Why can’t I know what is going on?” Moon asks.

“I will tell you as soon as I find out,” Colin replies, kissing her forehead. They leave quickly, and Moon is left to wonder what is happening. She’s annoyed they wouldn’t tell her; that only makes her think of the worst things possible. She left her phone in her room and goes to check it, hoping Ben and Em are alright.

Moon finds her phone, and she hasn’t missed any calls or anything, but when she tries to call Ben, the phone goes right to voice mail. The same happens when she calls Emily. Now she is really worried and can’t think of what to do. She sits on the bed. Kiara is far too quiet in her mind, and she tries to reach her just to feel her wolf faintly sleeping. Moon has never felt so alone as she does right at this moment.

“What is it, Chris?” Colin asks once they are well away from Moon.

“We got a message from someone, and you need to see it. Jess found it, and she’s shaken up by it.” Chris warns, and Colin remembers she was one of the voices he heard shouting in his head. Colin notices quickly that Chris is leading him out of the packhouse.

They head to the woods as the sun is already mostly set; Chris doesn’t stop or shift there. Just moving a few yards into the trees, Colin can smell the blood and soon sees the sea of red. Three of the patrolling wolves are dead and propped up in the trees like scarecrows, all pointing to the box on the ground.

Colin looks at it and then at Chris. He slowly opens the flaps of the box. In it is the bunny Moon had given to Bella.

“Where is she?” Colin roars, making Chris and the others guarding the area against prying eyes flinch. Jess is still there, and she looks close to tears.

“We can’t find her; her sent is everywhere,” Jess says. “We have people looking for her, Sir.”

Colin lets out an ear-splitting, howling roar.

“Find Bella now! I want everyone available looking for her, Chris!” Colin is shaking with rage. He should have kept Bella in the packhouse. He should have kept her safe. These are his only thoughts. He is sure his brother is behind this, but how? How did Caleb get anyone into his pack to do this?

“We are looking everywhere, Colin. She may be hiding somewhere. She is a smart girl.” Chris reassures him, but it does little good. Colin picks up the stuffed animal, which looks clean, given the gruesomeness around him. It still smells like Bella. He breathes deeply and lets Farrell take over. He is sure this is a trap, but he doesn’t care. That girl is just as important to him as anything. She became family to him. He just hoped to find her actual parents to look after her. He wanted her to have a real family and not just him looking after her, but she picked him a long time ago, and she may as well be his pup at this point.

Colin takes off into the woods, shifting. Before anyone can stop him, he must find her and bring her home, and he can’t think clearly.
