Chapter 13

Walk

There was no way Moon was going to wait for Colin after that weird little experience in the kitchen. After Moon finished her food and coffee, she thanked Ann again, and Ann gave Moon a funny smile.

Moon was still having trouble thinking straight about why Colin acted like that. If he wasn’t annoyed with her, he was almost flirting with her. Moon had no interest in being some Alpha’s latest conquest or plaything warming his bed until he found his mate.

She was pretty confident that was all he wanted. Moon had heard plenty of stories, even from Ben, about the Alpha’s or worse, their sons and how they acted like every girl should just want to crawl in bed with them. Granted a lot of girls did because she-wolves seem to love power. Moon has never been a typical wolf, and she has only met a few alphas. Crawling in bed with them was the last thing she wanted to do. Moon was starting to wish she had swatted Colin in the nose with the magazine.

Moon huffs in frustration as she walks down the driveway of the packhouse, muttering, “alphahole, jerk playing some stupid game. Not with me, no thank you.”

“Hey, Moon, where are you going?” Zach calls to her running across the lawn.

“Oh, I’m just going to the clinic.” Moon turns pink, hoping he didn’t hear her muttering.

“Why don’t you wait for Alpha Colin? He was heading there later?” Zach is keeping a good distance from her, and Moon can’t figure out why when she takes a step closer to him, he steps back, so she stops.

“I don’t mind walking, which will give me a chance to look around. I don’t really like riding in cars too much.” She left out the part about getting car sick even on short car rides. Part of the reason she never went with Alpha Mark to meet other packs.

“Well, okay then, I guess. Does Alpha know you are going now?” Zach looks worried, but Moon doesn’t want Colin to know she left.

“Of course he does. I told him I was going, so there is no need to worry about me, Zach. Colin was fine with it.” Moon feels a little bad lying to the poor guy, but she doesn’t need him linking Colin or telling Colin that she left.

Moon fidgets a little, but Zach seems to buy her story, and he just nods,

“Well, it’s a bit of a walk to get there. But the town is really pretty, so have fun, but be careful.”

Zach seems to be in a bit of a hurry to get away from her as he rushes off, and Moon shrugs it off, just glad he believed her.

She picks up the pace as she hurries down the driveway, and soon she’s walking by the cute little houses, thinking about how sweet they look and reminding her of home. She wonders how many wolves live in Colin’s pack.

Moon daydreams as she walks; soon enough, she is in the main part of town again. Walking by shops, Moon peeks in windows. A little way down the road, a group of men are coming out of what looks like a diner. The Men are laughing and having a good time joking around. They see Moon coming, and one calls out to her.

“Hey, cutie, where are you off to?” he smiles at her, and Moon rolls her eyes.

“Oh, come on, don’t be like that. Why don’t you come on over here, and we can introduce ourselves better.” He continues, and Moon is trying to plan her escape as another one of the men joins in.

“Yeah, we don’t bite, hard anyway.”

Moon is about to turn around and go into a shop or something just to avoid them when the black SUV pulls up to the curb. Colin gets out and walks over to the men.

“What were you saying, Jamie?” Colin takes off his dark sunglasses as he reaches the men staring Jamie down.

“We just wanted to get to know her. We didn’t do anything really, just having a bit of fun. She looks like a cute little thing and we-” Jaime doesn’t get to finish before Colin has him by the shirt and pulls him close to him.

“No, you are going to leave her alone. Do you understand me? You and your friends will not bother her again.” Colin looks strangely calm, but he is anything but calm. Colin is close to ripping the man’s head off.

“Yes, Alpha, sorry, Alpha.” This is all Jamie can manage before Colin lets him go and shoves him back to his friends. They catch Jamie before they all scatter. Colin turns and walks back to Moon.

“What the hell are you doing? I said I would take you to the clinic.” Colin has that typical annoyed tone again.

“I just wanted to walk.” Moon crosses her arms in front of her.

“Well, parading around a bunch of unmated men isn’t the smartest idea,” Colin growls, knowing perfectly well what Jamie and his friends had in mind. Jamie wasn’t his favorite person, and Colin hates his womanizing. Colin hates listening to the way he and his friends talk about banging all these girls and all of their escapades. Wolves, in general, are promiscuous, but Jamie takes it to a whole new level Colin can’t stand.

“Get in the car, Moon,” Colin orders a little firmer than he meant to. The thought of Jamie even looking at Moon still has Colin’s blood boiling.

“No,” Moon says simply and starts to walk before Colin steps in front of her.

“No?” He questions. “What are you going to do if another guy bothers you?”

“I’ll be fine.” Moon tries to walk around him, and he moves in front of her again. “What, you don’t think some weak wolfless girl is capable of walking by herself now?” Moon is annoyed now and quickly getting angry.

Colin is taken aback by what she said, remembering all the times he called her wolfless. See, you are a stupid jackass. Farrell quickly points out Colin’s mistakes and takes Moon’s side.

“I didn’t mean anything when I called you that I was just-”

“Pointing it out repeatedly.” Moon interrupts.

“Well, you are, aren’t you? It wasn’t an insult or anything.” Colin tries to defend himself, but Moon makes a sound like a shriek and a growl as she storms past him.

Good job, ass hat. Farrell growls. Just fucking apologize; it isn’t that hard, stupid.

Why should I have to? I wasn’t trying to insult her. Colin argues with Farrell.

Well, you clearly did!

“Moon wait, I’m sorry for what I said. I really didn’t mean anything by it. Please let me give you a ride to the clinic.” Colin says, trying to regain some of his composure again. He manages to get Moon to stop walking, at least. “I’m going there anyway, so please just go with me, and we can check on Johnny and Chris.”

The last part seems to have done the trick when Moon turns to look at him, still glaring.

“Fine, only because I want to see how they are for myself.” Moon huffs, walking to the SUV. Colin opens the door for her and tries to help her in, but she doesn’t take it. Colin then gets in the driver’s side. Moon looks out the window as they drive to the clinic in uncomfortable silence.
