Megan felt Jewel's words stung her like a hornet's venomous jab, her lips nearly splitting in fury. "Leopold isn't some low-hanging fruit to be plucked by a mere siren’s tricks. If Kerry thinks she can seduce him, she'll be so wrong.”

Jewel scoffed dismissively. "He's no saint, darling. The man's got a bevy of young Internet celebrities and starlets tucked away in his private life. He spoils them rotten. But, dear Megan, you can't even get him to take your calls anymore. It's downright pathetic.”

Megan's temper flared at the provacation. “Remember your place, Jewel. You're here to help, not to mock me"

With a sigh, Jewel replied, "There's no magic trick to make Leopold fall for you, especially when you're pregnant and can't have sex with him now. He's bound to look elsewhere for fun. What do you expect? That he'll be chaste just for you? In your dreams!"

The color drained from Megan's face, turning it a steely shade of gray. In her mind, the child was her anchor, securing her position within the Stirling family.

"You don't know shit! It's the child that will secure my standing in the Stirling family” Megan snapped.

Jewel let out a hollow laugh. "Honey, a lineup of women out there could bear his children. I hear yours is ranked number five."

Megan retorted, "Then make sure the first four don't threaten my son. If Leopold only has my child, wouldn't he cherish him above all else?"

Jewel burst into laughter. "You are so naive. Do you think he'll have only one child, huh? Men can father children into their eighties. And you've terribly underestimated the Stirling family. They'll never let you have your way, keeping you from becoming the official matriarch of the house. What you need is to earn Leopold's trust.

Megan's expression darkened further. Time was a luxury she couldn't afford.

"Why care about me if I'm not your concern?” Leopold teased.

Aurelia pouted. "I'm thinking of my child, Kane. If you're under someone's spell, who's going to protect him?"

A twinge of something, perhaps regret or longing, flickered in Leopold's heart. She was right. If not for Kane, she would have long made up her mind and left him.
