Chapter 633

The waiter delivered a feast to the table.

Arnold deftly served Aurelia a slice of prime rib, while Leopold offered her a succulent chunk of lobster tail.

Avery, with an air of nonchalance, chimed in, "Now that Arnold's signed the divorce papers with Lisa, when are you planning to devoice, Leopold?”

Leopold shot him a withering look, "I'll handle my affairs, and thanks for your concern, he retorted coolly.

Avery snickered with a hint of mockery, "It's because Megan's developed sleepwalking, isn't it? When Aurelia was hospitalized in the ICU, you started seeing Megan behind her back, insisting on a divorce. Now Megan's unwell, and you're ready to drop her too. Fair-weather couples we may be, in times of trouble, alone we flee.

That saying couldn't be more apt for you.”

His past infidelity and abandonment of Aurelia were stains that could never be washed away. Leopold felt the sting of Avery's words, like swallowing bitterness with no chance to voice his pain. Aurelia, not wanting Avery to provoke further tension, hurriedly smoothed things over, "Avery, let's focus on our meal and skip the unpleasant talk. You've only got a two-hour break before you're back on set."

Leah got Avery a glass of yogurt, trying to offer some perspective, “Avery, things aren't always what they seem.

Maybe Leopold had his reasons. Back then, it must've been Megan playing dirty, drugging him or something, then trapping him with a pregnancy.

She had crafted an entire soap opera narrative in her mind, the likes of which were common in old melodramas.

But Aurelia wasn't buying it. Megan had gotten pregnant after the divorce. Leopold's regret stemmed from discovering her ties with the AK Group, not before. In her eyes, he had willingly been with Megan.

"He never truly loved me,” Aurelia thought, "To him, I was just a trophy, something he clung to only because someone else wanted it."

"Leah, feelings change, Aurelia said, more to herself than to the others, “Those fairy-tale loves are for fiction. In real life, most emotions evolve. After all, we're all human, with our own passions and desires. We can't be too harsh."

At one time, she was naive enough to think that love was fearless and reckless. As long as two people truly loved each other, they could break through all the constraints and overcome all the obstacles.

One heavy blow after another finally made her realize that indestructible relationships didn’t exist. Even if aman loved her, he would give her up for someone or something more important.

Arnold was upset at her words. She was including him in her disillusionment, not just Leopold. By marrying Lisa to save his mother, he'd let Aurelia down, driving her straight back to Leapold. Winning a heart was tough, but losing one was all too easy. He had been leading in this silent competition, leaving Leopold far behind. But a single misstep had caused him to stumble, and although Leopold's actions were far worse, it didn't mean Aurelia would come back to him. Otherwise, she wouldn't be casting her gaze towards Elvis.

Leopold knew this too well. If it weren't for Arnold's mistake, Aurelia wouldn't have returned to him. She had always loved Arnold, and Leopold thought himself a makeweight. So he clung to her, fearing any slack might let her slip away like a kite without a string, lost to him forever.

Leah sighed softly, “Maybe that's just how people are. Only when we lose something do we truly appreciate it.

But how many of those lost loves can we really reclaim?”
