Chapter 603

"Why don't you two go play somewhere else and leave me be?"

"We're just worried you'll mess with Leopold and Mom's breakfast-making’ William said, pulling a face at her.

Skyler nodded furiously beside him. "Megan, keep your distance. Don't distract Aurelia from her cooking."

Megan was about to blow the top. Another day with these little brats would send her over the edge. Finally, Aurelia and Leopold had breakfast ready. After eating, Megan excused herself to use the restroom.

When she came out, she found the campsite deserted except for two bodyguards and Melissa, who was still sleeping.

"Where's Leopold?”

“They went for a walk, one of the bodyguards said.

"Which way did they go?”

"Over there.” He pointed toward the north, where tall weeds flanked a narrow path, swaying with the mountain breeze, threatening to swallow anyone who dared enter.

Megan made to follow, but the bodyguard stopped her. “There could be rattlesnakes out there. It's dangerous.

You can't go”

She glared at him. "Why can't I go if they can?"

"You're pregnant. A snakebite could mean an emergency delivery" he explained.

Megan huffed, “It's your job to protect me. If I get bitten, it's on you."

“We can't go with you because we have to guard the camp. Plus, Ms. Melissa is still asleep in her tent; the bodyguard said.

Speechless, Megan stormed to Melissa's tent, woke her up, and demanded company.

Melissa yawned, glancing at the clock. “Why are you up so early?"

She was known for sleeping until the sun was high in the sky.

"Come on, Melissa. Let's go for a walk,” Megan urged.

Melissa shook her head, refusing, "No way. My legs are still aching from yesterday's hike. Suit yourself. I need more sleep.”

Megan sniffed. "Leopold took Aurelia for a walk and left me behind. I'm heartbroken.”

Melissa gave her a languid look. "Oh, honey, with all the snakes and bugs in these woods, they left you here for your own good. You're pregnant. Forget the jealousy and focus on the baby for now.” It was clear that Melissa was unmoved, and Megan's frustration grew.

Meanwhile, Leopold's group was busy enjoying the fresh mountain air on a forest trail. The early sun cast a beautiful light on the path, and birds chirped tirelessly in the trees.

“The early bird catches the worm, but the early worm gets eaten,” William chirped in his childlike voice. “So, the late risers still get their share, the late worms.”

Skyler giggled. "I slept like a log last night and didn't wake up till the sun was up.

“Me too; William chuckled.

"Enjoying good food and getting plenty of sleep. Life just doesn't get any better than this., Aurelia said, patting her son's head. Such carefree days were the happiest of childhood, free from worries. Growing up changed everything. One got busy with work and worried about life's chores. The rich and the poor had their sorrows, and the leisurely days were long gone.

William turned to Leopold. “Uncle Leopold, keep your plans hush-hush next time in case the annoying ones tag along and ruin the fun.”

Leopold gave an awkward smile, replying, "Sure, it'll be our little secret next time.

"Where are we going next time?" Skyler asked eagerly.

“I'll let you know once I've got it all planned out,’ Leopold promised.

"Great, Skyler beamed, looking forward to their next adventure.
