Chapter 539

The night valley was silent, the sky studded with stars like jewels.

Tendrils of silvery, ethereal light floated amongst the grass, creating a spectacle that looked like strands of fairy lights, forming countless crisscross ribbons.

"Wow, fireflies!" exclaimed William in awe.

Leah quickly pulled out her phone to capture the moment.

The fireflies, like the elves of the night, fluttered their delicate wings, carrying tiny lanterns. They darted up and down, left and right, weaving through the flower beds.

“It's so beautiful.” Leah's eyes widened in admiration. Sightings of such whimsical creatures were rare, only found in secluded valleys.

William picked up his tablet, "Let me take the pictures for you. I am the son of the world's number one photographer, and I guarantee that each picture will be a masterpiece.”

He smirked, his eyebrows raised in pride.

Leah ruffled his hair, “Alright, let's have the son of the renowned photographer take our pictures.” William was thrilled to be everyone's photographer for the day. He was imitating Arnold, taking each picture with utmost seriousness.

As everyone was immersed in their joy, an insect flew in from somewhere. Just as it was about to approach Kane, Leopold's keen eyes spotted it.

With a swift move, he brandished his portable bug zapper, striking the insect down with a forceful swing. After being electrocuted, the insect fell to the ground. But it didn't die, instead, it seerned to be riled up and fiercely charged towards Leopold.

Leopold knocked it down again with his bug zapper and then stepped on it. Finally, the insect stopped moving.

One of the bodyguards shone a flashlight on it and realized it was a hornet.

"Why would there be a hornet at night?"

Hornets were diurnal, returning to their nests by dusk and it was unlikely for thern to be out flying alone.

Aurelia heard his words and shared a glance with Leopold, both sensed something was off. Walking the mountain roads at night was dangerous, so they had to spend the night at the campsite.

"There's likely a nest nearby. Hornets are vengeful creatures. Everyone, quickly get back into the vehicle."

When hornets were dying, they released a unique scent as a danger signal to their companions, inciting them to retaliate.

Leopold brought four bodyguards with him, two followed them, and the other two were with Avery and Leah.

Hornets were heat-sensitive, so the bodyquards lit a bonfire and sprinkled insecticide around the vehicles.

Hornets didn't venture out at night mainly because of their poor vision.

So, they turned off the external searchlights.

Once inside the vehicle, Aurelia was tense, fearing the children might get hurt. She took out William's spare hood and also put it on Kane, wrapping it from head to neck, this way the hornets couldn't reach them.

"Hopefully, that hornet was just a stray, and there's no nest nearby"

Kane and William opened their tablets and started researching about hornets.

"Hornets have poor vision, so they can't see humans without a light. But that hornet seemed to have good vision, and it flew straight towards the bodyguard.” Kane wore a puzzled expression.

"It might have been the light from the fireflies that allowed it to see.” William analyzed.

"Don’t worry. Our vehicle is airtight, so they can't fly in; Leopold reassured the kids, patting their heads.

Despite his formidable abilities, he knew that while it was easy to block an open attack, it was hard to quard against a hidden one. Therefore, all his vehicles were specially customized, costing billions to make, and capable of both land and water travel to greatly reduce the chances of assassination. The vehicle was equipped with 360-degree surveillance cameras.

The bodyguards sat in front of the surveillance screens, constantly observing the outside.

The moon peeked out from the clouds, bathing the entire valley in its cold light.

A few hornets silently flew over in the moonlight, landing on the vehicle windows, searching for cracks to enter.

Soon, more and more hornets arrived, covering the windows.

Aurelia's face turned pale as she held onto the children tightly.

Leopold also held her, “Don't worry. They can't get in. Soon, the extermination team will arrive by helicopter.”
