Chapter 338

She didn’t want to be the one left behind anymore.

“Being friends is pretty great. No strings attached, no counting scores, no disappointments. Just treat each other with a neutral attitude. Maybe that's the best relationship for us.”

Arnold slumped into his chair, his fingers digging into his hair.

"Did I disappoint you?”

“No, you did what you had to do. Anyone else in your shoes would have done the same. Marriage isnt child's play, and we should take it seriously. Since you're married to Lisa now, try getting along with her. Maybe you might end up liking her.”

“I won't love any other woman but you.” His words were unwavering. That despicable woman disgusted him. Even if she saved his mother, he wouldn't feel the slightest bit of gratitude towards her.

Aurelia let out a small sigh. People change, and so do hearts. Perhaps there's no such thing as everlasting love in this world, maybe she was just hoping for too much of a fairytale.

"Arnold, the strongest and most genuine connections between people are friendship and kinship, not love. Loving someone can make you sensitive, and fragile. But being friends, you can be free and unguarded. If you ever need to vent, I'll still be your listener. As for William, you'll always be his beloved daddy. Not much will change between us, and we're still a family.”

He was William's uncle, Leopold's brother. Naturally, they were family.

“Aurelia.” A tear slipped from Amold's eye, shattering on his knee.

He could hear the resolve in her voice. He must have hurt her when he chose to marry Lisa, but she never showed it. He had been too careless, ignoring her feelings. He needed to divorce as soon as possible, or he'd lose her forever.

From a shadow nearby, William had been hiding behind a flower bed for a while now, completely unnoticed.

Were mommy and daddy arguing? If they were getting a divorce, that would be disastrous. His friend Aron’s parents got divorced, and then he got a stepmother, a stepfather, and new siblings. Then Aron became the least noticed child in the house. He didn’t want to end up like Aron.

Chapter 338

It must be Mr. Ices fault. He would negotiate with him and tell him to give Mommy back.

He snuck back to his room and called Kane, asking him to bring Mr. Ice to the local dessert shop tomorrow.

Kane thought William sounded strange, but since he was going to pick up his mom from the apartment with his dad tomorrow, he agreed.

The next day, Leopold brought his son to the dessert shop where William was waiting, wearing a tiger mask. He found a corner booth so they wouldn't be disturbed.

Leopold noticed how clever the little guy was, just like Aurelia.

“Just you?”

William nodded, “Yep.” Negotiating was a small matter he could handle alone.

Leopold ordered desserts for the kids and a lemonade for himself.

After a bite of chocolate cake, Kane asked, “William, do you need something?”

William looked at Leopold, “Uncle Leo, could you not take mommy from us? We were happy before, but once we get to Elysium, we're not happy at all.”
