Leopold cast a sidelong glance at Skyler, his gaze piercing and profound. "Skyler, you have a Ph.D. in psychology, so you should

know that when people lie, their eyes tend to look up and to the right. The movement of the eyes reflects brain activity. When the

brain is constructing a sound or an image, in other words, when someone is lying, the eyes move in an upward right direction. If

people are trying to recall something that actually happened, they'll look up and to the left. When you were talking just now, your

eyes went up to the right."

Skyler was dumbfounded and was hearing his words thrown back at him. Had Leopold started studying psychology too?

He quickly hung his head, his index fingers touching as he adopted a look of wounded innocence.

"Leopold, that trick is just for grown-ups but doesn’t work on kids. I'm still a child, and children's thoughts are full of fantasy. Even

when we're talking about real events, our eyes might drift right."

Leopold clapped him on the shoulder. "Skyler, have I been good to you?"

"Yeah," Skyler nodded.

Leopold continued, "We're like brothers and should be honest with each other, no secrets, no lies. If you lie to me, I'll be hurt."

Skyler scratched his head, torn about what to do. Alas, knowing too many secrets could be such a hassle.

"Leopold, I promised William and Kane that I wouldn't tell. It's a secret I have to keep for them. If I spill the beans, they'll get mad

and won't play withanymore." With that, Skyler bolted away.

Leopold darkened his eyes as if a cloud had passed over them. There was indeed a secret between William and Kane. He had to

find out what it was.

The kids had set up a tent in the backyard, pretending to camp.

Skyler crunning over, out of breath. "Kane, William, I was nearly scared to death just now."

"What happened?" William asked quickly.

"Leopold suspects something. He wantedto spill your secret, but I didn't. I ran away," Skyler said, patting his chest.

William and Kane exchanged a look, their frustration unspoken.

Hadn't Leopold already done a paternity test? Why was he still suspicious?

Why this obsession?

"Look, Skyler, if Leopold asks you again, just tell him our secret. Otherwise, he's going to keep being curious and pestering you."

After all, their secret was a bluff, a little white lie to throw Leopold off the scent.

Skyler scratched his head, "But then your role-playing games won't be fun anymore."

William shrugged, "Can't help it. Who knew Uncle Leopold, all grown up, could be as curious as a kid? Always prying into others’

business."

Skyler chuckled, "Leopold acts all cool most of the time, but he can be pretty cute sometimes."

Mira and Nina called them over to make sfruit sushi, and Skyler ran to join them.

William looked at Kane and grimaced, "Kane, control your dad, will you? Stop him from snooping into my business. Kids need their

privacy too."

Kane sighed softly, "Dad just wants to know if his Liam is still out there. Even the slightest doubt, the faintest hope, makes him

want to dig deep and not give up."

William puffed out his cheeks, "Kids aren't just extensions of their parents. We're ourselves. He has to get my permission first. And I

do not give it. I just want to hang with my dad."
