Nina was scared out of her wits, forcing herself to stay calm. She crouched down, pretending to be fascinated by the little crabs in a bucket.

A female officer approached, "Can we have a word with Ms. Stirling? Nothing serious, just to understand what happened at the time." Aurelia stepped forward, "I was there too, we're happy to cooperate with you both." She beckoned Nina over, "Chere, Nina." Nina didn't want to budge, but she knew the more she avoided them, the more suspicious the police would become.

"Oh," Nina replied with a small voice and scurried over.

Aurelia took her to the pavilion up front, which was providing swelcshade.

The officer pulled out two photos of the deceased, "Ms. Stirling, do you recognize them?" Nina glanced at the pictures, replying, "They look like the celebrities who were shooting a video in the palm grove yesterday." "Celebrities?" The officer seemed taken aback, "You're saying they were celebrities?" "Yeah, I always see them filming in the park. They definitely had that vibe and their acting was on point," Nina said, bobbing her head. Her innocence was her greatest asset.

The officer couldn't help but smile. She was dealing with someone of a higher status, and the chief had insisted she be friendly and gentle.

"So, you offered them chocolates?" "Mhmm," Nina nodded.

"How many did you give?" "Two, one to the guy and the other to the pretty lady." Nina answered honestly, knowing that honesty would keep her above suspicion.

"Why not to the other lady?" Nina scratched her head, "Aunt Aurelia calledover, so I left. Do you want schocolate too, Officer? I'll treat you." She fished out two red-wrapped chocolates from her pocket.

"These are liqueur-filled chocolates, they're really good. Here, one for you and your partner. These are my last two. I didn't even give one to my sister when she asked. I told her I'd eaten them all." The officers exchanged glances and took the chocolates, "Thank you, Ms. Stirling." "You're welcome." Nina flashed a grin, dimples appearing on her cheeks.

The officer blinked, as if a thought had struck her, and asked, "Where did you buy the chocolates?" Nina shrugged, "Just at a convenience store." "Do you remember which one?" the officer prodded.

Nina shook her head, "Nope, but if you like them, you can buy them online. You can find anything online." Aurelia felt a pang of worry. Nina had claimed the day before that she bought them at the resort's shop, and Aurelia had even sent the bodyguard with Mira to look for them, to no avail.

But Aurelia said nothing, her greatest concern now was that there might be something wrong with the chocolates.

"Is there a problem with the chocolates?" The officer explained, "The deceased's wife mentioned they had eaten chocolates given by Ms. Stirling before the incident, so we're just checking as a routine procedure." Aurelia leaped from her chair. She had dealt with poisoning incidents far too often.

"Maybe you should take those chocolates back for testing right away. My kids ate them too. If there's a problem, I need to get them to the hospital immediately." "Mrs. Stirling, please don't worry just yet. The deceased died of acute poisoning. If there was an issue with the chocolates, the effects would have occurred yesterday," the officer reassured her.

Aurelia breathed a sigh of relief, but she wasn't taking any chances. She called Leopold over and instructed him to get in touch with a doctor to have the kids checked out at the hospital just to be safe.

After the officers left, with the promise to test the chocolates and contact the Stirling family if anything turned up, Nina was a bundle of nerves. She had only given Mira one of the red chocolates and hadn't given any to the others, nor had she eaten one herself.

The red ones should be safe, right? Her mom had said the red ones were safe for everyone to share.

Mira was still bouncing around without a single complaint about a tummy ache.
