Maxton didn’t mince his words. He was okay with embarrassing his own daughter in public, not even bothering to lower his voice
“Is that any of your business? Dorothy was getting impatient. “We haven’t asked for your money or ridden on your coattails. You’d better stay out of my business”
“Who do you think you’re talking to? Dorothy, I’m your father! Don’t put on airs with me: you’re just like your mother!”
His voice raised unconsciously when she gave him the cold shoulder.
Onginally, Dorothy just wanted to deal with him quickly and return, but she couldn’t stand it when he spoke about her mother like that.
