Chapter 87

“Sheila? Pregnant? With my child?” Alpha Nick was pale as he recalled the letter. She had given him the other pair of earrings she cherished so much because they no longer held any meaning for her. She had found something better and more worthwhile.

For all that she had sacrificed, she had found joy at last and was not willing to share it with him. After all, he had not shared in her pain and neglect when she lived with him. She had offered herself on a platter of gold, but he had refused to see.

A treasure lost was hard to find. Alpha Nick realized how much his negligence had wounded her heart. Sheila, being a sweet woman, found it hard to harbor a grudge and was even nice to him after the divorce.

When he had asked for her help with the pack, she had obliged and never tried to cause problems for him and Charlotte. She had left with her head held high, so why couldn’t he also live with his head held high without her?

Sheila was not ready to continue from where they had left off, and when he kept pestering her, the only choice she had was to run away, severing all ties in the process. A strong woman knew what she wanted and would not allow anybody to stand in her way, not even her pack or family.

Doing what was best for her unborn child was all that mattered. Going back to the Dark Moon Pack would only bring her sorrowful memories.

Alpha Nick was so depressed he wanted to cry, but tears failed him. He was hurt about her keeping the pregnancy from him, but he also knew that if he had known about it, he would have forced her back to the pack, which would have made her unhappy.

He face–palmed, his hands moving from his face to his head, pulling all his hair behind him in deep thought. Sheila had promised to be in touch with Athena, so Alpha Nick could not believe she would go against her own words.

“Mom, can’t you reach her? Please call her at least. Did she not promise to be in touch with you?” He was desperate, not caring to hide it. Tedmond was moved. He had seen his son soulless when Charlotte disappeared on their wedding day, but now he saw a strange fire in his e

Was it even possible that a man could love another woman better than his fated mate? Alpha Nick had not been so crazy when Charlotte disappeared. Though he had thought she was kidnapped, he had been usually calm, cold, and indifferent.

But when Sheila left him, he looked like he had died internally. Still, there was hope in his eyes. The hope of finding and making her his. The unquenchable fire of going beyond any length to get her back was what amazed Tedmond.

Alpha Nick had been in love with Sheila outside the mate bond without realizing it. This man did not love Charlotte. It was just the mate bond playing on his mind and making him feel as if they belonged together.

Chapter 87

This was the worst Tedmond had ever seen his son, but it was strangely interesting to him.

What makes you think she would keep in touch with me when she broke ties with everybody else?” Athena asked. It was understandable that Sheila would not be able to keep her promise to her this time because she was Alpha Nick’s mother.

If she could send an attack to distract him, then why would she make it easy by telling Athena, knowing how willful Alpha Nick was?

Athena dialed Sheila’s number and pressed the speaker button. It was out of reach. Hearing the robotic voice, Alpha Nick rushed out of the room, but Athena called him back.

“Nick, don’t do anything silly. You need to rest.” She was afraid Alpha Nick would die from exhaustion. The truth remained that Alpha Nick was only there in body, but his heart and soul remained wherever Sheila was.

“How can I even sleep? My wife and unborn child are somewhere, so how can I sleep? I treated her so badly.”

Alpha Nick’s deep voice lost its warmth, turning rather sorrowful. His expressions were equally saddening. “Can you believe she begged me to delay the divorce for just a little so we could attend the gala awards together?” Alpha Nick asked rhetorically. Tedmond could only feel his pain but not offer words of comfort.

“Guess my response. I refused. I believe she wanted to reveal who she was to me because she loved me so much and did not want to lose me, but as soon as she saw Charlotte, she quickly signed the papers and left.”

Time was a reminder of both the good and bad times. If Alpha Nick had an enchanted eraser, he would have erased the painful memories, making corrections with a pencil.

“If only I hadn’t brought Charlotte in a rush when the divorce was not finalized, I believe she would not have left me. She loved me so much, and I was busy loving a two–timing, conniving, cheating mate. I have to go look for her.”

Alpha Nick rushed through the door with hasty steps. It was as if he was chasing something dear.

“Nick…” Athena was about to stop him, but Tedmond held her back. As much as h ated it, guilt had begun to well up in his heart as well. He had met the Alpha King a few times, but only his seven sons were present.

He never even spoken about his prodigal daughter. Still, whether or not Sheila was the daughter of the Alpha King, they should have treated her better.

“Let him go. He’s hurting, and it will be good if he can find her, but what happens to your mate?” He asked Alpha Nick. The latter halted just when he was about to turn the knob. Turning around, he replied to his father indifferently.

“Dad, I don’t have time for her yet. All I care about is Sheila, but as for Charlotte and Tom, I will

leal with them later”

His resolve could not be broken. Whoever could not stand with him would have to give way. Tedmond was moved and could not believe what he was about to say.

“You can stay for as long as you want. I will help Dustin with pack matters.”

Alpha Nick was amazed as his mother needed his father’s attention because of her illness, but the determination in her eyes showed that she totally agreed with her mate.

Gratitude rose in Alpha Nick’s heart like a vapor. “Thank you.”

Downstairs, he heard Charlotte arguing with Bree. “Why are you ignoring me? We are best friends, remember? Why are there tears in your eyes?”

Charlotte genuinely cared this time, but Bree did not know how to answer her without revealing important secrets.

“I said I’m fine. Just leave me alone.” Bree ran through the entrance and into the woods. Charlotte felt like she had just fallen from space. Everybody looked and treated her differently. Seeing Alpha Nick, her eyes lit up, but he also bypassed her like the wind, not sparing her a glance.

This time, Alpha Nick went with two bodyguards, being too tired to drive. His focus was to go see Arnold, but a few miles before reaching the Moonshine Pack, a familiar yellow Ferrari drove past him.

He instantly ordered the bodyguard handling the steering. “Follow the yellow car.”
