Chapter 80 

“Alpha Nick, you are making me feel like a mistress,” Sheridan complained in honesty, unable to contain the mixed feelings swimming through her heart. The view before her was breathtaking, and if not for Chaya’s meal, she would have emptied the plate.

The dessert was equally mouthwatering, but who knew that Alpha Nick would order some fine wine as well? Sheridan could not believe that she was only enjoying his kindness after the divorce. 

If he had not threatened to come and see the Alpha King, she would not have agreed to come, as she began to feel things she never wanted to feel for any man again.

Alpha Nick’s gaze dulled, not liking that term on her lips. He had brought her to a coded resort to relax, and it was about a three–hour drive from her pack: This was something he never did for any woman, not even Charlotte, though he had planned it for their honeymoon when she chose a human wedding.

The thought of it caused intense pain in his heart. It was obvious that Sheridan loved the place, but her words disturbed him greatly. “Why do you think so?” He asked seriously as they took in the mountain view from where they dined in the open space.

It was so serene with the stars in the sky as Alpha Nick rented the whole place for just the two of them.

“You have your mate at home, but you are out here with me. It reminds me of when you left me at home and went looking for Charlotte. When you found her, you hardly returned home anymore.”

Pain flashed in Sheridan’s eyes as she spoke, reminding her of when she craved his attention so much but only got his absence and indifference. Why did life have to be so unfair? She just wanted to move on, and yet, he was back to mess up her life again.

“I’m so sorry, but the only reason why I’m keeping her at this moment is because of you,” he revealed. Sheridan was slightly taken aback. Then she stared at him strangely as he continued to speak.

“If you’d come with me right now, I would reject her right in front of you.”

This is what Sheridan wanted when they were married, but after everything that happened, how could she fight the mate bond? “We are not mates, and there is nothing between us. It’s not right for you to reject your destined mate,” she advised.

past that and was no longer swayed by attractive looks. Even her heart sang a different song as she could not trust it being with Alpha Nick.

“Are you serious right now?” Alpha Nick was not accepting her advice. He quickly poured a glass of wine for her. “Drink some wine first. I specially…”

“No, I can’t drink wine,” Sheridan quickly refused, unconsciously holding her belly. Alpha Nick’s gaze was on her face, and he didn’t read any meaning into her action.

“Why?” He asked seriously. She didn’t complain about the food or dessert, so why was she refusing his wine? Did she think he was going to take advantage of her? Sheridan raked her mind for the perfect excuse and said,

“I decided to stop taking in alcohol after that night.”

Alpha Nick understood her point but still felt like she didn’t trust him enough. “But it’s just the two of us. It’s not drugged. I specially ordered it and would like you to taste it.”

Sheridan did not know how to argue her way out of the situation without revealing the truth about her pregnancy. This unborn child was the only hope she had to forge ahead.

“You were telling me about Charlotte before.” She quickly changed the topic of discussion.

Alpha Nick sighed frustratedly, combing his hair with his fingers but still maintaining an elegant look. “I would prefer that we don’t mention her, but since you brought her up again, I will be completely honest with you. My reason for not rejecting her is the fact that it would be too easy on her.”

Sheila was a bit lost, not hiding it as Alpha Nick continued to explain it to her. “She would have gone back to her normal life with Tom after destroying mine. I mean, I already destroyed Tom’s business, but it’s still not enough.”

Sheridan was even more confused. She knew that Charlotte never loved Alpha Nick. It was the reason why she was bold enough to propose to him, but what she did not expect was Charlotte’s unexpected return, and she’d be lying if she said she was not interested in knowing why it so happened.

Alpha Nick continued to speak without being asked. “It would have been fine if she had told me from the first time we discovered the bond that she was in love with somebody else. I wouldn’t have taken offense, and we would have just rejected each other, but what did she do?”

Sheridan saw a darkness in his eyes that was so scary. It was obvious that Alpha Nick was not going to let the matter rest.

His voice was heavy with anger as he rattled on. As a man who was not used to speaking so much, he was releasing so much information within the short space of time.

“She faked her disappearance, getting me worked up and losing my mind. I didn’t sleep well night and day, thinking about if she was still alive, if she had eaten, or if she was being abused when in fact, she was fucking my best friend.”

Alpha Nick’s eyes welled up, but he didn’t allow his tears to fall. Charlotte didn’t deserve it. Right now, his anger was directed at himself for how he neglected the woman who stayed loyal by his side, taking care of his pack when he was going after an unworthy

woman.

“For six months, she took my soul with her, making me a horrible husband to you. I know I am to blame for a greater part, but for wasting my time and coming back to steal my money before returning to wherever she was before, I can’t take it kindly. I’ve never been so kind.”

Sheila knew it was true. Alpha Nick was only kind to his family and pack. It was not the same for other packs and Alphas, but she was more interested in the last part of his revelations.

“What do you mean she came back to steal your money?”

Alpha Nick gulped down the glass of wine he poured for Sheridan earlier. Holding her gaze, he explained the details to her.

“I heard them talking on the night of the gala awards in the garden. Tom had sent her to come and steal some money from me. She would have faked another kidnapping and disappeared again if she succeeded. Tell me, what did I do to deserve this?” 

His voice was teary, and Sheridan felt guilty. Alpha Nick was betrayed by his mate and seeking solace in her arms, but what if he found out she was equally hiding something so great from him?

“Nick, we all aren’t perfect,” she said seriously, but Alpha Nick shook his head. Sheridan was the light in his dark world. With her, he could let the past go and start a new life with her. Holding her two hands securely in his and as he held her gaze, he pleaded with her once more.

“Sheila, please give me a chance to show you that I can be better. Give me another six months. I just want Charlotte and Tom to pay. I want them to feel every painful

emotion they made us feel before. I want them to die emotionally by the time I drive them out of the pack. They would wish for death, but it would be far from them.” 

Unease settled in Sheridan’s heart, and she quickly withdrew her hands. “I don’t want to be a part of it. I mean, it’s…”

Alpha Nick took her lips fiercely before she could complete the hurtful things she wanted to say to him. Strangely, she found herself shamelessly responding to his kisses, even when she was not under the influence of any alcohol. It was more like their first real kiss.
