[Arissa’'s POV]

I watched the boy as he made his way towards me. It seemed that I was going to end up dying here, but then suddenly I heard an odd voice.

"Get up,” it muttered urgently. "Get up and fight!"

Confused, I jumped up just as the boy lunged at me. Moving out of the way, I whirled and jumped on him as he slammed into the ground. Reaching around, I wrapped my arm around his throat and began to squeeze as hard as I could.

This would be the first time I ever killed someone, and there would be many more after him. Three years of this: fighting, killing, growing stronger and harder. Then I would be brought back to the pack and find that my father had died and my mother had remarried. Her new husband would mark me as an omega and I would be sent to live in their quarters. I would ultimately stay there until a few nights before the blood moon. After being dosed with wolfsbane in my meal, I would be taken to the breeding house, where I would inadvertently cause my stepbrothers death.

It was all like something from a nightmare, but it was the reality that I lived in, and it just kept going. When I would try to feel like I was getting better, all these images would appear again and here I would be reliving the hell.

Closing my eyes, I waited to wake up from this memory and find myself back in the clutches of my stepfather’s brother.

"Arissa,” the voice that called, was so gentle, but I knew it was an act. "Wake up.”

Letting out a groan, I pried my eyes open and found myself staring into ice blue eyes that held no emotion. They watched me curiously, and the face they sat on seemed to be tense.

"What was that?" He asked slowly as I fully woke.

"What was that?" I asked slowly. "Low sugar.” I could only assume he was talking about my collapse. "Not that," he sighed, fixing his gaze firmly on mine. "What was that place with all the children fighting.”

I could feel the blood in my veins turning ice cold. How the hell did he know about that memory? Had he been spying on my thoughts?

"You looked." I growled, jumping up. "HOW FUCKING DARE YOU!"

How could he invade my thoughts like that and see such a thing? That was my memory, my burden to carry, and he saw it all. He witnessed my first kill, as well as the hell I had to go through afterwards. What the fuck did he think he was doing?

"I just wanted to help.” He said, slowly standing up. "Please try to calm down."

"CALM DOWN!" I screamed, rushing forward and slamming my hand against his chest. "YOU INVADED MY PRIVACY!"

I moved forward, pushing until his back was against a wall and he had nowhere to go. I didn't give a damn if I offended him. I didn't fucking care if he killed me. I didn't give him permission to know my past, and I wasn't just going to back down and forgive him.

"How could you?" I growled, leaning close enough to feel his warmth touching my skin.

"Could you please listen?" He seemed completely unphased about what was going on. "I didn't do it to pry. We couldn't wake you, so I thought maybe I could try to see what exactly was going on. *

"I didn't need your help.” I hissed. “I would have woken up eventually and if I didn't all the better. I don't think you quite understand just how much I would welcome death. *

If it would stop the pain and regret, I would happily die a thousand deaths. I lived with the constant burden of slaughtering innocent children who only wanted to be accepted and loved. That wasn't something someone took lightly.

"Please, next time it happens, put me out of my misery.”

Letting go of Ivan, I stepped back and crossed my arms. My breath came out in heavy puffs as I worked to control the anger that was rushing through me. If I continued to let it consume me, there was a chance I would kill him.

"Why are you so insistent on dying?" Ivan asked slowly, eyeing me. "This is the second time you've mentioned gladly dying."

"You don't live through what I have and want to live.” I laughed. "Maybe you are okay with all the lives you have taken, but I doubt any of them were innocents or children, right?"

I knew that he was a war hero, but the only people he had killed were the enemy. He hadn't taken the lives of children or innocent bystanders. He could try to claim that he understood my torment, but he didn't.

"l haven't but..."

"Exactly." I snapped. "Now, stay the hell out of my head and stop trying to find out about my past. Also, stop hounding me about giving you a child. I won't be doing it and you might as well just return me to that bastard Isaac so he can enjoy watching me fight in an arena with wild beasts until the day one finally kills me. *

Not bothering to wait for his response, I turned and stormed out of the room that we were currently occupying. As I passed, I noticed a man with long brown hair and caramel skin standing just outside the door. His golden eyes held curiosity and embarassment as they met mine, and I knew that he had heard everything.

"Enjoy the show?" I asked, slamming a shoulder against his chest as I passed. "It will cost a hundred gold. Send it to my room."

Lifting my hand, I flipped him off and continued down the hall. I didn't know where I was going or what I was going to do next, but I needed to move. Honestly, I needed to do some sort of physical exercise to calm myself, but this place was foreign.

I continued to move until I burst outside. The sun had just started to set and warm shades of gold and red painted the ground and scenery around. Stopping, I looked around, trying to decide where to go next. When I came up empty, I just moved. I would just move until I was calm, and then I could clearly think of my next move.

One thing was certain: I couldn't stay here and I didn't want to. If running away would end up getting me in trouble, so be it. What was the worst that could happen? He'd kill me? Great, bring it on.
