It was Lucas trying to check in for his room.

"Lucas!" Sarah shouted in excitement.

Lucas turned around and was stunned for a moment before smiling at them. "You are staying here as well?"

"Yeah! What a coincidence! We are just going to head out for dinner. Have you eaten?" Sarah said with a grin.

"Not yet." Lucas smiled. "I'm just done with work."

"Let's go together, then! We found a pretty nice local cuisine here. Well?" Sarah suggested.

Lucas glanced at Anne hesitantly.

Seeing that Lucas did not intend to refuse, Anne extended the invitation as well, "Do you have the time?"

Lucas turned to the hotel staff and said, "Help me bring my belongings up to my room."

"Yes, sir." The staff bowed respectfully.

Anne, Sarah, and Lucas headed out together.

Lucas had rented a car from the hotel as that would be more convenient for him to travel, so he drove while the other two sat in the backseat.

Anne felt slightly awkward as it almost felt like Lucas was merely their driver.

She looked up, and her heart fluttered when their eyes met through the rear-viewing mirror.

Sarah noticed it and started a conversation. "Lucas, what's your mom doing at home lately? It's been so long since we played blackjack.”

"She's trying everything she can to marry me off, Ma'am Vallois. You really should ring her up for a few games. I'm at my wit's end here.” He chuckled

"I can't help you with that! I agree with your mom. You have to marry at some point. You should act as soon as you find someone you like!" Sarah said.

"It's not that simple.”

"It's easy. Just don't be too stubborn, and everything can last forever. As soon as you get too caught up in one thing, it will never end well. In the end, you are your worst enemy," Sarah said.

It seemed to be an advice that could apply to anyone.

Lucas had a strong sense of responsibility and refused to marry anyone, but in the end, he was left alone. Anne, on the other end, was too stubborn and found herself in a worse situation. Both could only comfort themselves by brushing it off by calling it fate.

The three went for dinner and took a stroll in the night market. They all had fun and returned to the hotel at nine.

Lucas parked the car at the entrance and let the valet parking staff drive it away.

As soon as the three entered the lobby, they sensed something wrong.

All the guests and staff were gone, and there were a few bodyguards in black standing before them. Anne jolted as chills ran down her spine.

"I thought you were never coming back," a cold voice pierced through the air.

Anne turned around and paled when she saw the man walking in

Anthony stood tall, and his eagle-like eyes were filled with malicious intent.

Sarah leaned closer to Lucas and pulled Anne closer to her as well.

Lucas scowled, displeased by Anthony's sudden appearance.

"Looks like I'm not welcomed here.” Anthony stared at Anne intently. "The freedom out here has allowed you to forget who you are."

He reached out to drag Anne toward him violently.

"Ah!" Anne fell into his arms in fear. "Let me go, Anthony!"
