After entering the room, Dorothy asked, "Why did it take so long? Is it done?"

Nigel stared at Dorothy wordlessly, his eyes cold and piercing as though he was trying to stare through her soul.

"What's wrong?" Feeling uncomfortable, Dorothy asked.

Nigel turned to look at Bianca, who had changed back into her clothes and was sitting by the bed at the moment.

He tried his best to search for any resemblance between Bianca and him but became increasingly confused. The daughter he had spent years caring for felt more like a stranger.

When Bianca met his eyes, Nigel suppressed the doubt in his heart and said, "All done?"

"Yeah." Bianca got up.

Dorothy immediately went over to help her up. "Careful. Take it slow.”

Nigel went over to grab the bags before following them out.

Doubt was a weed that could not be eradicated, and eventually, he decided to get a paternity test. It was easy to find a cup that Bianca had used or a strand of hair in her room, and with those in hand, Nigel went to a private hospital to perform a paternity test.

He waited in the lounge impatiently.

Unlike the previous paternity test, he had performed when he felt anything but the joy he felt when he first discovered that Anne was his daughter. In contrast, the test he was performing at the moment might prove that Bianca was not his daughter after all.

He spent the whole previous night thinking about this and wondering if he had overthought. Could Dorothy have cheated on him as soon as they got married? He was still a poor lad with nothing but ambition, so he did not suspect a thing. If Dorothy had cheated on him so early on in their marriage, she had to be the most vicious woman on earth.

"Mr. Faye, here are the results.” The doctor brought the result over. "The two samples are not genetically related.”

Nigel's hand jolted and accidentally pushed the glass of water over next to him. The glass fell onto the ground and drenched his sleeve.

He accepted the results with shivering hands and stared at the words in the bottom right corner, unable to accept the results.

"Why not..." he mumbled toward the doctor, but also to himself at the same time.

How could the daughter he had loved for years be unrelated to him?

"Mr. Faye, there's definitely no issue with the results. If you are unsure, you may try to perform the same test again at a different hospital,” the doctor said.

Nigel went to a different hospital but received the exact same results.

Exhausted, he felt his spirit crumbling into ruins and sat in his car for a long time without moving so much as a finger.

Bianca was not his daughter, yet he had sacrificed his happiness to remarry Dorothy to be a good father to her.

There was no bigger joke.

It was supper time soon, and when Dorothy noticed that Nigel had not come home, she called him, but the call was not answered.

"I'm so sick of this. Why can't he at least give me a heads-up if he's not coming home for dinner! People who don't know what's happening might think he went to see Sarah!" Dorothy set the phone down.

"Let's eat.” She then helped Bianca to the dining room.
