Chapter 1394

They arrived at old Mr. Hilton's mansion and as soon as they got out of the car, Ashlynn spotted Beth standing outside the door in bloodshot eyes.

She walked over in hope to offer any form of consolation, but could not bring herself to utter a single word.

“Here you are.” Beth took her hands as she glanced at Corentin coldly, before turning to look at Ashlynn gently. “Your grandpa is waiting for you inside..."

She then proceeded to ignore Corentin entirely and pulled Ashlynn inside.

Not bothered at all, Corentin followed them in.

The maids and Aunt Cher stood outside the bedroom door and when they entered the room, Ashlynn noticed that Marshall and his brother, Jeremy and Meredith were all present.

Old Mr. Hilton only had two sons and had treated his daughters-in-law as his own. He had been a caring and loving father to all of his children and one could easily tell how loved he was by his children from the dark looks on everyone's faces.

When Meredith saw Ashlynn, her eyes were instantly filled with unwelcoming resentment and rage, having recently found out about Ashlynn’s true identity.

The person she had grown to despise turned out to be the long-lost daughter of Beth and Marshall, and no one could possibly accept such a drastic change..

As soon as Ashlynn walked in, Meredith got up to leave, making it clear that she did not wish to be in the same room as Ashlynn.

Meredith walked out of the room and Aunt Cher followed closely, not wanting Meredith to be completely isolated.

Meredith spotted Corentin sipping on a cup of coffee on the couch when she headed downstairs. Right, I almost forgot that Ashlynn is his wife now,” she thought while gritting her teeth. “And there I was, getting engaged to him like a fool? Who do they think I am?! I've never been humiliated to this extent

before!

“Crescent...”

“Grandpa.” Ashlynn crouched next to the bed and looked at the frail old man on the bed, unable to believe how he became so weak in merely a few hours. “Grandpa, let's go to the hospital, okay? The doctors will check on you and everything will be fine.”

“It's no good. I know it...” Old Mr. Hilton struggled to focus on Ashlynn as though he was trying to memorize every detail on her face. “I have...never forgotten about you. I'm content now that I've seen you again.”

Ashlynn did not grow up in the Hilton household, but could not turn her back on the instinctive feeling she felt toward her family. Tears welled in her eyes as her heart sank, all the while wondering if this would still happen had old Mr. Hilton not seen her.

“The Hiltons owe you everything and I've come to realize that I just want you to be happy... to be free of troubles...” Old Mr. Hilton reached his hand to pat Ashlynn gently on the head

Beth covered her mouth to stop herself from making a sound while sobbing.

“Beth...” Old Mr. Hilton called out.

“Dad.” Beth approached him.

“You are the daughter-in-law I chose. Not only have you been a great wife to Marshall, you have managed our company well. A family’s prosperity depends on more than wealth, but also its members as well. We must educate our children well...”

“I know, Dad, and I will.” Beth sobbed.

“Especially Crescent. Don't let anyone bully her. I won't forgive anyone who does...” Old Mr. Hilton said. while panting.

“Dad...Dad..." Beth called out.

Marshall, his brother and Jeremy dragged the doctor over worriedly.

Old Mr. Hilton shook his head. “It's fine...call Corentin Lloyd here..."

Ashlynn’s expression darkened.
