Jaxon's POV

"Azuri, hey. Think you could come over?” I say over the phone.

"What did you have in mind?" She asks me, a little too excited and it hurt me that I was going to hurt her.

Hailey.

The one person I really don't want to hurt and that means making sure Azuri is out of the picture, for good

Hailey is my mate and I can't wait to show her off to the world and tell them she’s all mine but first, I have to tell Azuri. She is my friend, even before this... she deserves to hear it all from me before it gets to anyone.

I've hurt her enough, that much I know and this will be a blow but there's no better way to do this. It will hurt now and for some time but I have to tell her, as my friend.

"Hello?" Azuri calls out.

"Yeah sorry. No, I just have something to tell you. Actually, let me come over. I'll be there in 5." I walk out of the house as I say this.

"Cool. See you soon." Azuri says excitedly.

Damn.

Walking to her house, I keep trying to rehearse on how I'll break this down to her. I mean, I know for a fact that she will be hurt but I just, I'm just not sure how she will react.

As a warrior, she understands how things work and Hailey is of alpha blood, meaning that she is and will be valued more than a simple warrior.. Hailey is also my mate which will soon make her the Luna of this pack, trumping Azuri once again. I am hoping she thinks of this before trying anything. Hailey may not be well trained yet, she has a lot to make up for and Azuri could use this to her advantage but why would she stand against a woman, a female wolf that is to bring the first pup in to this world, this pack.

For the first time ever, my mate and I get to have full blooded wolves in the pack, this world! Rendering them the strongest children ever. A future alpha that not one person will ever dare to cross.

I find my way to Azuri's house pretty quickly with all these thoughts swimming in my head and I don't even get to knock because she answers the door in a silk robe.

I mentally groan.

She pulls me into the house and slips the robe off. Standing before me, all naked but with high heels on.

"Azuri, please get dressed. I'm not here for sex.” I say but she doesn't listen, as she walks around me trying to taunt me but it doesn't work.

Azuri starts feeling me up, from my shoulders and down my chest until she gets to her goal, realizing she's not having the desired effect on me.

"What's this?" She asks annoyed.

"I told you I want to talk. I'm not here for any of this, not now not ever so get dressed. I'll be on the couch.” I say, picking up her robe and handing it to her.

I walk away from her, making my way to the couch and she follows, finally dressed.

"Azuri, I found my mate.” I say and she laughs.

"No you didn't." She says and I look down at my crotch then back at her.

"Then explain this?" I ask, which she plays off.

"I've known my mate for some time actually. With human mates, we never know how they will react so I had to act cautiously but also remove you out of the picture.” I say.

"So it's Hailey. I knew when you stood up for her that she was different. All the other girls you denied, you humiliated for my benefit but not her. You changed the entire school system for her." Azuri says, hands balling in to fists

"Yes. It is Hailey and I'm telling you this because people don't know yet but they will soon find out. We are together now, she knows about this life and is ready to go public with me." I say and Azuri gets to her feet, facing me.

"I will kill her!” She says and I growl, also getting to my feet.

"You do that, I kill you. What makes you think that you'll be able to put any hands on her now that the pack will know who she belongs to?" I ask Azuri, who sits back down to think.

"I'm in love with you Jaxon. I'm bound to think of killing any girl that gets in the way of that." Azuri's eyes brimming with tears.

I gently take her hand in to mine, sitting down next to her.

"I'm sorry for pulling you in this. It was selfish of me to have all this fun with you knowing I've got someone out there for me. I am sorry for hurting you, as a friend too. I should've been more considerate with all of my actions.” I say sincerely. She chuckles, looking right in to my eyes.

"You think I fell for you when we started having sex? Jaxon... I've been a mess since I knew that you were a boy and I, a girl. Our friendship means a lot to me but I've had feelings for you for the longest time." She confesses, confirming something my friends have told me but I refused to believe it

"I'm sorry for playing with your heart then.” I say, kissing her cheek. I stand up, making my way to the front door.

"So she gets the good side of you and I got the bad one. You come here, to clean up your mess so she won't have to deal with any girl claiming to be yours when I've had to deal with all of that? Why does she deserve the good side of you? Your respect? I've shown you nothing but love, respect and loyalty. She's just a stranger to you and a human who could change her mind about being with you!" Azuri screams out, I stop walking to turn around and face her.

"Azuri, she's my mate. I can take accountability for ignoring your feelings during our thing and getting what I wanted from you but I won't let you forget that we agreed going in to this that this was purely sexual. I believe I told you this a million times but you still wanted exclusivity. You had the entire school think we were together when it wasn't like that, even put hands on any girl that I made a move on. I laid everything on the table going in and you didn't, you kept your feelings for me hidden all these years and then expect me to just figure it out? Oh I did. I figured it out when I went for other girls and you'd still stay but even breaking up with you is hard. You won't let me, knowing full well what will happen to you. Go ahead, gamble with your life Azuri but I didn't ask you to. If my father banishes you, don't put that on me. You want what I can't give you and I'm sorry for that but I won't apologize for doing right by Hailey. I put everything I want from her and all that she will get from me on the table and she accepted it, just as I did with you but you don't get to compare. I value the two of you differently and I see the two of you differently. Hailey is the one I love, I'm not sorry for that.” I say, watching the tears fall out of her eyes.

Running my hands through my hair and growling, I turn to walk again.

"She's still human. A very weak human.” Azuri says and I chuckle, turning one more time to face her again.

"Now that's where you're wrong. She's very much not human.” I say, walking closer to her.

"Hailey is every bit a wolf like you and I." I say.

"That's impossible!" She says but I just smile.

"My father will be having a pack meeting soon to introduce my mate. If you want to see for yourself, don't miss it." I say, making my way out and back to my house.

It sucked, it really sucked having to break my friend's heart but I'm relieved I finally told her.

I could have let her find out at the pack meeting like everyone else, I could have let her see us at school be together or in public spaces but I care about Azuri, as a friend and hopefully one day we can go back to being that.

Now, all that matters is my mate.

My Hailey.

That's the work I've got to put in and I don't want obstacles I could have dealt with before, coming in between and disrupting my work on the relationship one waits their whole life for...
