Dawson quickly offered his reassurance, "Attorney Clara, Mr. Hayes will be alright. Maybe he's already made his escape. He's just out of range, and can't contact us."

Everyone's comforting words bolstered Clara's spirits. She lifted her teary eyes, her voice husky, "I know he won't leave us behind. He'll come back."

After wiping away a tear, she grabbed a cup of water and took a few hearty gulps. Then, turning to Dawson, she said, "Dawson, I could use a bite to eat. Could you grab me something?"

Dawson paused briefly, then promptly replied, "Sure thing, I'll go right now."

Fifteen minutes later, Dawson returned with a beef stew and a trio of deluxe sliders.

Clara sat on the hospital corridor bench, polishing off everything. Those around her watched her force down the food. Their eyes reddened with emotion. They all understood that Clara was trying to pull herself together. She was waiting for her father's surgery to succeed and for lan to come back. It took an immense amount of inner strength to adjust her emotions in such a short time.

Finally, after a few hours, the operating room doors swung open. Clara, who had been pacing anxiously, now stood rooted to the spot. Her legs felt as if they'd been filled with lead, immovable. Suddenly, she was gripped by a wave of nervousness, of fear. Fear that the doctor would come out and say, "I'm sorry, we did everything we could."

The person emerging was Chase, looking weary but with a faint smile playing on his lips. He looked in Clara's direction and called out, "Clara, the surgery was a success. Casey's going to make it." Upon hearing those words, Sasha, who had been sitting in her wheelchair, suddenly stood up. She wanted to cheer wildly, forgetting, for a moment, that her cast-encased leg and the fracture had not yet healed. A sharp pain shot through her, and she couldn't help but lunge towards Chase.

Chase immediately opened his arms and caught her. A teasing chuckle emanated from above Sasha's head. "Throwing yourself into my arms won't help. There's nothing I can do for you right now."

Sasha caught the implication of his words and glared at him irritably. "If it wasn't for the fact that you helped save Mr. Casey, I'd strangle you."

Chase let out a soft laugh. "Alright, Casey will be out soon. Go check on Clara. She must be exhausted after all this waiting. Go get some rest."

Only then did Sasha maneuver her wheelchair over to Clara's side, taking her cold hand and saying, "Clara, it's okay now. Casey's pulled through. Be a good girl, and let's get some rest."

Clara's face was smiling, but her eyes were filled with glistening tears. "I'll just see my dad and then rest. Don't worry. I won't let anything happen to me or the baby. We still have to wait for lan to come back." The more composed she was, the more it tugged at everyone's heartstrings. It was only then that Edwin realized Clara's stubborn streak was just like May's. Their personalities were so similar. Both appeared gentle and soft, but inside, they harbored a proud and stubborn core.

His eyes reddened as he looked at Clara, his lips curving into a handsome smile. Suddenly, his phone rang, and a deep, raspy voice came through. "How's Clara doing?"
