Edwin figured it out immediately. He quickly grabbed the blanket from behind him and draped it around Clara. His voice was gentle and soothing. "Don't worry. The baby will be just fine. Don't think about anything right now. I'm here for you, okay?"

Even though lan wasn't by her side, Edwin's words seemed to have some effect. Clara's anxious heart began to settle down.

A few minutes later, Chase arrived with an obstetrician. After a few checks, the doctor said, "The baby's fine for now. It's just a bit of bleeding due to emotional stress. Rest in bed and I'll prescribe some medication to stabilize the pregnancy. You're okay with herbal remedies, right?"

Hearing this, Clara nodded vigorously. "No problem, write the prescription now, please."

The doctor patted her arm reassuringly. "Don't be nervous. Bleeding is normal and it doesn't mean you're going to miscarry because you did before. Try to relax. It's better for the baby." "Alright, I got it. Thank you."

Clara was arranged to stay in the opposite room, and for the baby's safety, she didn't dare to leave the bed. Edwin and a few others took turns taking care of Casey.

Two days later, Chase and Edwin were in the room when suddenly, the heart monitor for Casey started beeping erratically. Both men stood up in alarm.

When he saw the unstable EKG lines on the monitor, a look of concern washed over Chase's face.

Edwin immediately asked, "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"

As Chase checked Casey, he instructed, "Call the specialist team. We need to perform a resuscitation, but don't tell Clara."

"Okay."

Minutes later, the specialist team rushed in. Casey was quickly wheeled into the emergency room.

Edwin paced outside, more anxious than he had ever been. His mind raced with thoughts of what would happen to Clara if something happened to Casey, and whether the baby could be saved.

Just then, the doors to the emergency room swung open and Chase came out. Urgency marked his face as he said, "Immediate surgery is required, but given the skill level of everyone here, the success rate is only about 20%. If lan hasn't brought back help, we have no choice but to proceed."

"I just tried calling him, couldn't get through. I have no idea what's happening on his end," Edwin said, clenching his fists tightly.

Chase hesitated before adding, "If we don't get help within half an hour, they'll have to operate, but Clara should be informed. It's very likely that he won't make it off the operating table."

Edwin's heart tightened at these words.

What would Clara do then?

He immediately asked, "Isn't there any way to delay this a bit?"

"We've reached the limit. If Casey wasn't so strong, he probably would have been gone by now."

As they were talking, they heard Clara's trembling voice. "Dr. Chase, can I go in to see my dad?"

"Clara." Edwin quickly walked over to stop her. "The surgery will take several hours, and it's very dangerous for you in your condition."

Clara looked at him. Her eyes brimmed with tears. "But if I don't go in now, by the time Dad is wheeled out, he might not be able to hear me anymore."

"Your health is more important. I can't agree to you going in. I promised lan I'd take good care of you."

At that moment, the doors to the emergency room opened again. The attending physician called out, "We need a family member to come and sign the consent forms. We're preparing for surgery."
