Lunch break

Ahhh my favorite part of the day. Lunch time!! Not only do I get to talk to my friends without getting into trouble but the guys are back from the technical trade school that they attend in the mornings. It is a school where you can go to learn carpentry, welding, electrical work, brick laying, hairdressing and how to be a chef.

I am in the college prep classes so I'm stuck in this school. Logan goes there to learn welding. He told me about it a little one day. He said he has to take an extra shirt to weld in because the sparks burn holes in his shirt all the time. If he wasn't a wolf he would have burns on his arms all the time.

I am standing in the back of a long line to get to the food. I feel sorry for the poor cafeteria staff, they have to not only feed shifters, who have speedy metabolisms and eat a ton, to humans who can be vegetarians. There is always a huge variety of food to choose from so everyone is satisfied and the food is actually good unlike most schools I've heard of.

I catch sight of Logan standing in line with his best friend Kyle. Kyle is ok but can be a little rough around the edges. His Dad is a warrior so that might be why. Warriors are killing machines and only worry about the protection of the pack and don't have any patience with pack drama, which there is lots of, especially in high school! Ok, I admit I am standing here ogling him because he has filled out nicely this summer. YUM! He looks over, catches me staring and gives me a nod and a smirk. He does that a lot! I wish he would let me in on his private joke, or maybe he just thinks I'm a creepy stalker girl!

The line starts moving quicker and I finally reach the food. I fill my plate with mostly meats like roast beef and pork chops while trying to decide between cookies or brownies for dessert. Thank goodness the theobromine doesn't affect wolves like it does dogs. What!? I was interested in being a vets assistant until I figured out dogs and cats hate wolves and get fearful and aggressive around us shifters. Too bad cause I like them even though they don't like me!

I sit beside Min and she starts telling me her story that she didn't get to finish this morning while shoveling food into her mouth. I love the girl dearly but she is a messy eater! Texas does sound interesting but hot! How does a wolf stay cool there with a built in winter coat on all the time? I check out my schedule after I eat and see that I have Chemistry after lunch. Good, I love to experiment with different chemicals and see what happens. We learned the periodic elements back in the 8th grade and have been experimenting ever since.

I take my empty tray up and grab the bathroom pass to wash my hands and pull my hair up. Last year one of the seniors accidentally dipped her long hair into the chemicals she was mixing and it burned it off. It set all of the smoke detectors off in the school and her hair turned a putrid orange color and stuck together at the ends! She had to have it all cut off.

My hair is pale blonde to begin with thanks to my Dad, I really don't want it turning a funky color or burning off thanks very much! The early bell rang right after I got back from the restroom so I grabbed my stuff and headed to the Chemistry lab. I got there and took a seat at the lecture part of the room which was set up as a regular classroom. The back part of the room was set up with lab tables for the experiments. Min and I have this class together this year and are looking forward to working together on projects. Our teacher, Mr. Ares, came in and patiently waited for the rest of our class to filter in. I was surprised to see Logan walk into the classroom. He sat in the back of the room and watched the rest of the class take their seats.

After the second bell rang Mr. Ares started telling the class about working in the labs, blah blah yes use common sense, wear eye protection and gloves and think safety first. Like we haven't heard it a million times before. Well except for Logan, he hasn't been in any of these classes before.

Soon Mr. Ares passed out the boxes with the lab coats, safety glasses and rubber gloves to the students and sent them to the labs. "Will Sara be so kind as to work with Logan for the next month so he can catch up on how to function in a lab setting?" I looked up and nodded. There were three chairs at each station so Min could still be in our group.

We stood at our table and Mr. Ares passed out our worksheet on the experiment we have to mix together. My voice is slightly husky as I try to explain how to make exact measurements so the experiment will turn out just right. I can feel those beautiful green eyes on me and I try not to fumble through the explanation. Min was standing close to him and he kept creeping closer to me. Feeling crowded and uncomfortable here people! I looked at Min and told her to come over and do the next steps of the experiment so her and I quickly changed places.

She caught my eye behind Logan's broad back and wiggled her eyebrows at me with a wide grin spread across her face. Logan shifted towards me again while Min was measuring the chemicals in the beaker. "You can do the finishing steps so you can see the reaction, we did this experiment last year and it is a very interesting reaction." I said to him. Logan smiled at me, "I got talked into taking this class by my welding teacher. He figured it would help me understand the chemical reaction between metals and why the solder has to be different metals to make it bond together." "I think it will, this is my favorite class and it's never boring!" I gushed.

Logan looked at me and said "you know you have very pretty blue eyes". I stammered out a thank you. Min helpfully stated "she is wearing blue today, usually they are a bluey green but the blue in her top really makes the blue pop huh!" Min is the total opposite of me. She is short at only 5 ft 3 inches tall and has a bubbly personality with long black hair to her waist and brown eyes. She looked over to Logan and told him it is his turn to be the lab goon now. He chuckled and pulled me with him so I could look around his big body to see what he was doing.
