My Luna Mate
Chapter Sixteen

LYRA

I glanced at Zynthéa as if she had grown another head, playing the words she had spoken just now over and over again in my head.

The room fell completely silent as the girl by my side eyed me cautiously, waiting for me to react to the news.

But, I burst out in to laughter. "That's very funny," I told her, she had to obviously be joking, but the calculation that I had made with how late I was confirmed that it was not a joke.

My brain refused to process the news, my wolf was just as shocked as I.

"I wouldn't dare joke about this," the girl muttered, her brows knitted together as her eyes travelled to my waist.

Instinctively, my hands traced over my mid section, a frown covering my face as I thought of having a pup inside of me right now.

Mine and Alexander's pup. Our baby.

I should have been ecstatic, but with everything happening, I couldn't even process the news. It made no sense, but the sickness and how emotional I had been made perfect sense.

Still, I couldn't be. Surely.

"I'm not pregnant. I can't be," I said through gritted teeth.

"Lyra."

"No, Théa," I snapped, already feeling tears accumulate in my eyes. "This can't be happening right now."

"You don't want a pup?" the girl asked, dumbfounded and looked really hurt.

I glared at her, unintentionally. "I don't know what I want right now."

The girl pursed her lips but didn't pry further. "My brother is almost here, I will leave the two of you to discuss this matter. I think it's best for you two to talk about this."

I nodded, not wanting to have an argument with her as well. She didn't need to know that I was not planning on telling her brother about this, not until I knew for certain what I wanted.

I mean, the thought of me being a mother freaked me out completely. I had hardly adjusted to being a Luna, how was I going to adjust to becoming a mother on top of that?

And with the state that Alexander and I were currently in, throwing a pup in to the equation did not seem like the brightest idea. It would complicate things even further.

On top of that, did I really want an innocent wolf to get caught in between our mess? For all I knew in that moment, my mate and I were in a very bad state.

"Well, that's my cue to leave," Zynthéa commented, bring me back to her. "Alexander is here."

My jaw tensed and I felt nauseous at my mate's name, feeling emotional with how I now reacted to Alexander's presence.

Instead of wanting to leap in to his arms and share the news that I was still processing, I didn't even want to see him right now. Seeing him would set off every damn emotion that was racing through me, and he was the last person that I wanted to console me right now.

Zynthéa placed a kiss on my head. "It's all going to be okay," she reassured, in an attempt to comfort me before scurrying out of the door.

At the same time, my mate appeared through the door, wearing a pair of black jeans with a grey t-shirt. Any other time, I would have drooled over how handsome he appeared, but in that moment, I bit my lip to stop myself from bursting in to loud sobs.

"Baby, are you alright?" he asked, panting as if he had been running, before rushing to my side. "I came as soon as I heard, Lyra. I am so sorry I couldn't be there for you."

He was about to grasp my hand in his but I snatched my hand away before he could, not wanting him to touch me right now.

"I'm fine," I snapped before pulling out the cannula from my hand, hating that I was attached to the drip hanging above me.

I was the daughter of an Alpha, I didn't even need IV fluids. My body would heal without the use of medicines and fluids.

"I spoke to the pack doctor," my mate told me, his eyes filled with concern. "He emphasised how important it was for you to rest right now, and to not stress over anything."

I snorted. "If you're here to tell me what to do, don't," I sneered. "Seeing as you suddenly have so much time on your hands, you should attend to your pack instead. They need you."

My mate narrowed his eyes. "You think I'm worried about them, right now?"

"I don't know, Alexander," I cried. "I don't seem to know the person that you are anymore."

"Lyra," he cooed, lowly. Taking a deep breath, he calmly said, "I'm not going to talk about anything that I know will upset you as of now. Baby, you are my biggest concern."

Rolling my eyes, I pointed to the door. "Please, leave. I don't want to see you right now."

My wolf whimpered and I couldn't deny the ache that I felt from craving my mate so badly, but I didn't want him around me right now when I was on the verge of a breakdown.

How pathetic would I appear if I cried to the man that had caused for me to suffer in the first place?

Alexander placed his hand over my stomach, making me freeze in my spot. My eyes scanned his piercing blue ones, to see if he knew about our pup. Surely, the pack doctor hadn't told him already.

"I'm not leaving you until I know you are perfectly healthy," my mate murmured, his eyes searching mine. "Baby, I know how badly I have hurt you, but I will never leave. In due time, when the timing is right, I will explain everything to you."

"Why is it so hard to tell me now?" I growled, feeling anger boil inside of me.

Alexander scratched the back of his head. "Honestly, because I'm still coming to terms with what is happening. There are some things that I need to confirm first before I can tell you."

His words made no sense, but before I could argue with him, a loud knock had us turn our focus on the pack doctor that was currently at the door.

"Luna, Alpha," the doctor said, bowing his head before approaching us. "How are you feeling?"

I shrugged. "I seem perfectly fine."

The pack doctor glanced at me, making notes on the iPad in his hands. Once satisfied, he nodded and put the iPad away.

"Very well, Luna. As I told the Alpha, ideally, I would like for you to rest. With these things—"

"What things?" Alexander intervened, glaring at the doctor with hard eyes, telling me that he didn't know about the pup.

The doctor frowned before his eyes met mine, I shook my head ever so slightly, praying that he didn't reveal the news to my mate.

"The fatigue," I quickly said, clearing my throat. "The fatigue will go away after I rest, correct, doctor?"

The doctor appeared stunned, but he quickly recovered as he nodded his head. "Yes, Luna. Rest will do you good, and at my recommendation, I suggest you rest as much as you can for the next couple of weeks."

"Perfect, thank you. And how soon can I leave?" I asked, hoping the answer would be that I could leave now.

The doctor frowned as he took notice of the drip hanging that was no longer attached to my hand. "You are free to leave when you please. I will give you a bag of fluid to take back with you. There is no harm in being hydrated. Now if you will excuse me."

Alexander raised a brow curiously, but the doctor bowed his head quickly before disappearing.

"Something happened," my mate accused. "He's acting strange."

"I'm still mad at you," I told him in an attempt to change the subject, and was glad when it worked. "This is all happening because of you."

"Baby," Alexander murmured, coming to sit on the edge of the bed, pulling at every emotion cursing through me. "I hate that I have done this to you. Is it that hard to trust me? How can you even for a second think that I want anyone else but you?"

I scoffed, as tears accumulated in my eyes. God, this pup was making me look weaker than I wanted to portray myself.

"Doesn't say much for me when you sneak around with her, protect her and lie to me about her," I whimpered, tears now flowing down my face.

Alexander wrapped his arms around me, and I had no energy to fight him off, so instead, I cried in to him being as weak as I was. As much as I hated him, as much as I wanted to be distant from him, being in his arms knowing I had our pup inside of me, that made me cry harder in to him.

"I am so sorry," my mate whispered in to my hair before pecking my head. "I am going to kill her for doing this to you, to us."
