Chapter 399 The Only One

Faye's voice sounded indifferent and Edward couldn't tell if she was provoking him.

Edward, who sat opposite her, turned pale and gloomy. He forced a smile and said, "Ms. Nash, what are you talking about? Why can't I understand your words?" He was forty-eight years old now and was relatively fat.

Though he looked like an upright and honest man, hints of cunningness would flash across his eyes from time to time.

Faye wasn't in a hurry to expose his true color when she heard his words. She sat down with a smile and called a waiter over to order dishes.

The more composed Faye appeared, the more unsettled Edward became.

Faye ordered several dishes and then handed the menu to the waiter, signaling him to give the menu to Edward.

How would Edward have the mood to order dishes now? However, to cover his nervousness, he still ordered two dishes.

After that, the waiter left the room. Edward coughed lightly and then went straight to the point.

"Ms. Nash, I wonder if there's any misunderstanding behind this."

"I heard from my secretary about the accident of that endorsement. Alas."

Edward observed Faye's expression while talking,

Sensing that Faye wouldn't accept any explanation, Edward took a deep breath, braced himself, and continued, "Ms. Nash, as the saying goes, obstructing one from earning money is like killing his parents. You tricked me here today. Aren't you afraid that I'll take desperate measures?"

Faye looked up at him and then looked down and took a sip of the tea.

Edward was lost for words.

When the waiter served all the dishes they had ordered on the table, Faye still remained silent.

She had a good appetite today. Except for the dishes, she also finished half plate of noodles.

Sitting opposite her, however, Edward didn't enjoy the food at all. He drank two cans of beer quietly.

The atmosphere in the room was very bizarre. When they almost finished eating, Edward's face looked extremely gloomy.

The door of the room was pushed open when Edward reached the limit of his endurance. Maxwell, who was in an ancient costume and had a string of Buddha beads around his wrist, showed up at the door. A hint of surprise flashed across Edward's eyes when he saw Maxwell. He tipped him a wink, wanting to signal him, but Maxwell had walked into the room.

He strode over, stood behind Edward, reached out, and patted his shoulder. "Edward, I'm sorry."

Edward was confused.

Maxwell continued, "I'll treat you to a meal later."

Edward didn't reply.

Maxwell said with a smile, "Edward, my driver is waiting outside. You've drunk some alcohol, so please let him send you back."

Edward had been desperately wanting to leave, so Maxwell's words were like an exemption for him. He stood up, picked up his jacket, and walked to the door.

But he suddenly turned around after taking two steps, held Maxwell's hand, and reminded him in a lower voice, "Maxwell, beware of this woman."

Maxwell smiled nonchalantly and said, "Thank you for you reminding, Edward."

Edward grinned. He turned around and left without bidding farewell to Faye.

When the door was slammed close, Maxwell stroked his chin and said, "Faye, you're smarter than I've imagined."

Faye wiped her mouth with a napkin and said, "You come later than I've imagined."

Maxwell sneered and retorted, "It's mainly because I didn't expect you would be so smart. It's just the endorsement of a star, how could you associate it with me?"

Faye replied, "Few people in Concanel dare to seek death openly."

Maxwell smiled teasingly and said, "And it happens that I'm one of them, right?"

Faye was indifferent to Maxwell's tease.

Maxwell found Faye was silent when he finished the words. He chuckled and continued, "If I were you, I would pretend not to know about this and make use of that foolish Edward to dig out the person behind the scene."

Faye gazed at him coldly.

Maxwell said teasingly, "Faye, truth be told, I'm curious about one thing. Your parents were bad to you back then, but why did you still choose to take revenge for them? If I were you, I would think they deserve

it."

A trace of sadness flashed across Faye's emotionless eyes when she heard him mention her parents.

Noticing this, Maxwell chuckled and asked, "Did I touch your sore spot?"

Faye replied, "I didn't say I did that to seek revenge for them."

Maxwell raised his brows with great interest and questioned, "Oh, really?"

Faye said calmly, "Brandon bribed Tiffany to take revenge on Old Mr. Farrell. But why did he want to kill me?"

Maxwell hadn't expected that Faye would shift the topic. He replied, "Guess it."

Faye continued, "There'll only be two explanations. The first is that Tiffany wants to eradicate all possible trouble. The second is that Brandon has a grudge against me."

Maxwell asked, "What do you think of it?"

Faye stared into Maxwell's eyes. A short while later, she answered, "Maybe there's another possibility."

A hint of surprise flashed across Maxwell's eyes. "Oh?"

Faye continued, "Brandon doesn't hate me, but the person close to me."

Maxwell's smile widened as he said, "Interesting. It's really interesting."

Faye said in a firm voice, "My guess is right."

Maxwell didn't reply. He took off his Buddha beads and turn each bead with his thumb and middle finger. After a while, he looked up at Faye and said, "You're an excellent woman. Won't you think it's a pity if you die at a young age?"

Faye didn't reply.

Maxwell said meaningfully, "It's an era with great freedom to choose the one you love. You should learn to enjoy it and look forward."

Faye stroked the edge of the cup and said, "He alone is enough to let me resist those seductions."
