Chapter 143

The scoundrel’s arrogance soon disappeared, and he knelt to plead for mercy.

The lackeys obeyed their boss’ orders, and without raising much fuss, they gave the scoundrel a minor lesson.

Upon witnessing the scoundrel pleading for help, one of the long-haired lackeys yelled angrily, “Get lost!”

Then, he made a show of wanting to attack the scoundrel once again.

The scoundrel rolled off the ground, scrambled to his feet, and fled, hiding his injuries. He feared the long-haired man would come to regret his choice.

Baffled, Ivy looked at the strangers in front of her. ‘I don’t remember knowing them, she pondered.

The long-haired man gestured her to the private room and said, “Miss, Mr. Lambert wants to see you.”

Having benefited from their assistance, Ivy had no reason to decline their invitation.

Ivy followed the man with long hair into the private room. She saw a man in his forties. was holding a cigarette, his legs crossed.

The long-haired man bowed respectfully and said, “Mr. Lambert, she’s here.”

Their boss was called Ethan Lambert. He had gone through the mill for many years in the underworld and was also an influential figure.

Ethan raised his chin slightly, sized Ivy up carefully, and murmured, “She looks like her.”

He soon approached Ivy, subconsciously gripping her jaw to survey her appearance.

Ivy didn’t dare to move, standing there like a lifeless puppet.

It lasted for almost two minutes, and Ivy had had enough.

She shouted inwardly, ‘Ivy, calm down. You have to keep yourself safe.

Her instincts told her that Ethan was more difficult to cope with than the scoundrel.

“Mr. Lambert, thank you for saving me,” Ivy uttered as she bowed to Ethan respectfully.

Ethan smiled at her, unsure why he sympathized with Ivy either.

He mused, ‘Perhaps I was initially drawn to her eyes because they resemble hers, and their likeness becomes more apparent as I look closer.’

Ethan then decided to keep her by his side.

“Oh? Since I saved you today, how are you going to repay me?” Ethan inquired jokingly.

Ivy opened her mouth, yet she didn’t answer.

Ethan’s smile grew as he inquired, “Why don’t you pledge yourself?”

Instead of inquiring, he was informing her.

Ivy looked around. Although she didn’t know about their background, it appeared that they weren’t as simple as she assumed.

“I appreciate your liking. Mr. Lambert. But I need to get my family’s opinion on such an important topic,” Ivy replied cautiously, afraid of upsetting Ethan and locking her up.

Ethan was overjoyed when he heard Ivy’s remarks, enjoying his own particular appeal.

Before leaving, Ethan handed Ivy his business card.

Ivy was astounded when she saw the name. She had heard of Ethan despite being unaware of his appearance, for she, too, employed underworld people to handle her

affairs.

Unexpectedly, she met the actual person and was also forced to pledge herself to him that day.

Ivy clutched the business card closely and walked carefully out the door in high heels.

Ethan sent someone to take her home.

Along the way, Ivy inadvertently asked inquiries about Ethan.

The lackey, driving the car, was also a smart man.

He knew that Ivy was special to Ethan and that she might one day become Ethan’s wife.

He thought, ‘If I can make her happy, I might have a bright future.

He, therefore, shared all of the information he had with Ivy.

It turned out that Ethan was such a remarkable man.

I can’t seem to get away with it, realized Ivy.

A trace of despair flashed in her eyes as she thought of this.

She mused, ‘I haven’t had anything going my way lately. Furthermore, I don’t think I’ll have any more freedom in the future.

The car ride went smoothly.

“You’re lucky to be favored by Mr. Lambert. We’ve never seen him that talkative to a woman,” the lackey said.

He had been complimenting Ethan along the way.

Ivy concluded that Ethan likely saw her as a woman’s alternative.

She mused. My life ends from now on. Ethan’s influence makes it tough for me to escape wherever I go. Why don’t I be obedient and avenge myself with his strength?”

Deep down, Ivy hated Kimberly the most.

Since childhood, Kimberly had always been superior to Ivy in all aspects, while Ivy had. always served as a foil to the former.

Kimberly snat ched away her happiness after they grew mature. If Kimberly hadn’t appeared unexpectedly, she wouldn’t have alcoholism or be targeted by Ethan.

Ivy regarded Kimberly as her life destroyer.

A frightening thought flashed through her mind.

Ivy had heard about Kiara’s affairs. Kiara was another woman who, like Ivy, had been. abandoned and banished.

Kiara had been in Alendor for four years, unable to go home.

Ivy believed Kiara felt the same resentment for Kimberly and the heartless Christopher as she did.

Ivy wished Kiara would return to battle Kimberly so that Ivy could be the wolf who won the game when the shepherds fought.

However, she was powerless to bring Kiara back on her own.

Ivy mused, ‘Maxwell, that old man, banished Kiara to that farm, where it’s ostensibly a farm but was actually a forbidden area for the Levine family. That’s where people who make tremendous mistakes end up.

It’s hard to get out of there because it’s heavily guarded. If I assist Kiara, she’ll become my trump card in the future. With that, I need Ethan’s assistance.

Sitting in the back seat of the car, Ivy was lost in her thoughts without saying anything.

In the meantime, the lackey caught sight of Ivy’s vicious grin through the inner

rearview mirror.

He was taken aback and wondered. ‘She was nice and submissive just now. Why does she now have the ferocity and awful look of a Big Bad Wolf?”

The lackey, driving the car, didn’t dare to speak or peek.

He thought. “She’s not easy to deal with. As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. No wonder Mr. Lambert has an eye on her. They’re the same type of folks!

Meanwhile, Ivy didn’t go straight home.

Instead, she asked the driving lackey to drop her off at Whitney’s house.

Whitney had been in Norham all these years. Ivy wondered if the previous experience had caused Whitney to contain herself so much.

Originally, Whitney planned to stay in Dellmoor for only a year.

However, the plan had not kept up with the changes. As a result, she chose not to return. to Dellmoor.

That was because Whitney discovered that William had changed.

Initially, William decided to have his attention solely on Whitney since he had become idle after Kimberly took over Larson Corporation.

He then began to enjoy his life, often going out with his so-called buddies to upscale clubs.

His wife had passed away for many years, but William remained single for his precious daughter.

As he grew older, his mind shifted. When he was around friends, he couldn’t avoid discussing family topics.

Over time, William would feel lost, as if his life was a failure.

When a woman appeared, he decided to make a change.
