My Elf Soulmate
Chapter 14

Paxton's POV

My heart shattered as I realised that she had really left me. The pain climbed up my body as it paralyzed me, unlike like last time, this time felt worse. Unlike with my first mate, I had completely fallen in love with Roseanne. It was not just the mate bond with her, I had an intense and personal connection with her.

I felt tears trickling down my face as I realised that I was alone again. Hopelessness began to fill up my entire being. I must have been the problem because none of my soulmates wanted me, I could never be happy, I found myself walking back to my room, where I had stored a sleeping potion that I had been using whenever I couldn't sleep. I took a couple of drops and looked at the bottle. It usually tasted so bitter but I couldn't taste anything so deciding to test my taste buds I decided to take a couple more drops of the potion. It was at that moment that I realised that I had taken a couple of drops too much, panic should have settled in at that moment, but it didn't. I just felt numb because it didn't matter. It's not like I had a soulmate to live for. How would I even tell my parents that my mate had left me...again. I was alone and I was destined to be alone forever, it would just be better for me to just disappear so with that thought in mind, I gulped down the whole potion and then went to lay on my bed as I waited for the inevitable to happen. The smiling face of Roseanne being the only thing that flashed from my memories, as darkness engulfed me in its cold embrace.

Roseanne's POV

"Mom, I'm back!" I called out as I walked in through the front door after Renee had dropped me off. I went to the kitchen where I knew my mother would be. And I was, of course, right as I was welcomed by the sound of her humming a tune as she placed the knife that she had been holding, up into the top cabinet. I plopped myself on the chair by the kitchen counter, feeling tired as well as uneasy. Something felt very off.

"Hello, honey, dinner will be ready soon," Mom said as she checked on the lasagna that she had placed in the oven. "What's wrong?" She asked her smile, falling into a frown when she turned around to take in my uneasy self.

"I just feel so uneasy. It feels like something is terribly wrong." I said to my mother, who cocked her head to the side in confusion.

"I honestly don't know how I can help you with what you're feeling, sweetheart." Mom said, seeming lost herself as she tried to digest my words and to come up with a response.

"I think that something's wrong with Paxton." I said with a deep frown as a sudden heaviness seemed to fill up my heart at the mention of his name.

"Paxton? Who is that sweetheart, and why do you think that something might be wrong with him?" Mom asked confusion on her features as she also tried to fill in the missing puzzle.

"Paxton is the man that I was telling you about, and more anything, it is the man that I was starting to fall in love with. I think that something is going on with him. I have a strong gut feeling that there is something wrong with him. He was the first person that popped inside my head when the uneasiness started, as well as whenever it made its move." I explained and looked at my mom's expression to find her looking at me with complete seriousness.

"Well, Sweetie, why don't you check up on him then? It will probably make you feel better." She suggested, to which I just hummed in reply.

"I think that I might just do that, but for now I'm just going to take a shower, change into some comfortable clothes, eat my dinner, and then I think that I'll just have an early night tonight." I told my mother and received an 'okay honey, from my mom before I stood up from the chair and made my way to my room.

I took a nice 20min long shower, I applied some lotion to my body before I got into my baggie pajama pants and put on the matching top and then I went to the kitchen where I found the Lasagna already placed on the kitchen counter, ready to be eaten.

"Let's dig in." Mom said as she cut out a slice for herself and then another slice for me. Mom and I ate our dinner in comfortable silence, and then I stood up and went to wash the dishes. Immediately after I was done, I made my way to my room and tossed myself onto the bed, closing my eyes. I fell asleep.

My sleep was anything but restful as I was jolted awake at sometime around 03:10 and ran to the bathroom to puke my guts out. I felt terrible, my body felt sore, and the uneasiness seemed to have become a physical ache. I stayed in the bathroom on the cool tiled floor with my head leaning on the toilet seat for a couple of minutes. I knew what I had to do, I just knew that this had something to do with Paxton. I just had to go back and see him, I had to make sure that he was alright, so forcing myself up, I was able to stand on my wobbly legs. With a pounding headache to boot and an awful aching stomach, I walked to my room to get the bracelet with the hope that it still had enough juice in it for a trip back.

I put on the bracelet and closed my eyes as I hoped for the best, I swiped my right index finger over the bracelet. I felt relief flood into my body as I felt the familiar feeling of my body being carried upwards right before I was teleported away. Within a couple of seconds, I was back in Paxton's house, but the house felt so cold. It just didn't feel the same way as it did the last time that I was here.

"Paxton." I called out and listened as my voice seemed to bounce off the walls but I got no reply, even though I could feel exhaustion creeping up my body, due to my lack of sleep as well as my sickly morning and the teleporting. Everything happening together at around the same time was just not a good combination for my body, but I called out again and again and was met with cold silence, making my blood run cold. As I was passing past the kitchen, a floating screen caught my attention, so I walked over to it. The closer I got to the screen, the more I realised that there was a message on the screen.

Dear Roseanne, I left this message here hoping that you would come back to find it. I have bad news. Dear, Paxton is unwell.

I stopped reading the message, afraid of what more I was going to read about. My heart dropped into the pit of my stomach, and instantly, I became nauseous. I turned away from the screen and took in a couple of calming breaths to try and ease the feeling. Plus, my headache was still very much present and made everything feel even way worse. Swallowing done the ball that suddenly filled up my throat, I turned back to the screen and continued to read regardless of my stomach already being in knots from all the worry that I was in.

His father and I have taken him to the hospital, and hopefully, it's not too late to save him. If you really want to see him, press on the Flaxi button on the screen. It will call a Flaxi for you, and the Flaxi will bring you here. I can't wait to hopefully see you.

Xoxo Penelope

I could have broken down right at the spot but I wielded myself to be strong as I pressed the button, a timer suddenly appeared where the button used to be and it began counting down from 02:59 downwards.

My stomach began rumbling, but I couldn't bring myself to eat anything. Nothing looked appetizing enough. In fact, the thought of eating made me want to puke. I went outside and waited for the Flaxi, which was quick to arrive. When it had arrived, I jumped into it as the tears that I had been holding down sprung to my eyes and clogged my throat. This was the first time ever since I was here that I was traveling alone, and to be traveling because of such bad moments made everything worse. It felt like the silence was there to provide me with even more space to worry.

I traveled in silence until I got to what looked like a normal hospital building. Climbing out of the Flaxi, I watched as it flew off while I made my way to the entrance. It was only at that time that I noticed that I was barefooted but this was the least of my worries as I walked into the hospital.

I walked over to what I assumed was the receptionist's table, but before I could say anything, the receptionist beat me to it. A look of recognition instantly lit up her face as she saw time.

"Miss Jordans, I've been expecting your arrival. Please follow me," She said, flying over the desk and landing next to me. She hastily made her way to what looked like a platform and then gestured for me to stand on it, and I confusingly did, not knowing what else I could do. "Go into room 301." She said, lifting up her hand, causing sparkles to form, and then out of nowhere what seemed to be like a transparent sparkly shield formed around me, and before I knew it I was on my way up. The floating platform stopped going up and lowered the shield of a barrier-like thing, signaling that this was where I was supposed to get off. I climbed out and watched as the round platform made its way back down to the ground floor. I made my way down the hall to find that the were only three doors here, Rooms 300, 301, and,302 so taking a deep breath I slowly walked to Room 301 as the receptionist had instructed. When I got to the door, it automatically opened, leading me to a room. And there at the center of the room laid Paxton, looking sickly, pale, and most of all was unmoving. A sight that I never ever wished to evsee again.
