A call suddenly came through. It was an international call. Orion glanced at the caller ID and set down his spoon. “Babe, I need to take this call,”

“Sure.” 

He switched to fluent French for a business conversation, and Xanthea listened for a bit but soon lost interest. Scooping up a spoonful of chowder, she suddenly realized. Where was her phone?!

Last night, in the heat of passion, her phone had rung. She remembered she had promised Director Smith to attend the wrap–up celebration but hadn’t shown up. Just as she was about to answer the call, Onion snatched the phone away and threw it out the door.

The crash it made was louder than any of her screams.
