Chapter 15 Cupid’s Arrow

I slowed to a stop. My house loomed in the darkness. Everything was dark and quiet. I meandered up to the door and went inside. Drew and Kai sat on the couch with their hands held together. Robin was right, they were a cute couple. I tiptoed through the kitchen and into the bedroom I shared with Quinn. Phoenix sat in a chair near the bed and watched Quinn sleep. The moonlight shone on her features. My breath caught in my throat, she was beautiful. Phoenix lifted a finger to her lips. I nodded silently. She stood up and slowly walked to the door. She placed her hand on my shoulder and allowed her fingers to trail across my back and to my opposite shoulder.

I moved beside her and she closed the bedroom door behind us. The hall was dimly lit. Neither of us said anything for a long while. Phoenix quivered again. I put my arm around her and guided her head to my shoulder. Phoenix melted into my arms. Her breath came out in tortured pants. “You’re okay, Phoenix. Let it all out. Let me have it,” I murmured to her. Her body shook, I felt tears fall down her cheek and onto my shoulder, “How do you do it, Reese? How are you so strong? How are you keeping it together?” I chuckled humorlessly, “Can I tell you a secret?” She lifted her face and met my gaze. Her beautiful blue eyes were red with tears and pain.

“The secret…how do I hold it all together? I don’t. Not really. I’m a mess on the inside. I’m worried about Quinns health. I’m confused on how to find this cure for her. I don’t know how to keep my pack safe from these witches.” As I spoke, I noticed Phoenix’s eyes were locked on my lips. “Reese,” she breathed. I lifted her chin with my finger and gently pressed my lips to hers. Phoenix’s body relaxed immediately. She snuggled closer and kissed me back. She tasted warm and sweet. A soft moan escaped her lips. She abruptly took a large step back. Her eyes wide with fear, her chest heaved.

“I should not have done that. I should not have done that!” Phoenix put her head in her hands. “You’re with Quinn!” I stepped forward, took her chin in my hand and pushed her gently against the wall. I raised her chin and looked into her eyes. “Quinn knows, Phoenix. She knows that you have a thing for us. Please take a breath.” My voice was low and stern. “She spoke to me about something called polyamory. Do you know what it is?” Phoenix nodded, I continued. “I have spent a lot of time thinking about it. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about you. Phoenix you’ve become very important to me. You have a wonderful heart. You took care of Quinn for me. I know you want what’s best for her.”

A gorgeous smile crept across her face. I let my hand drift away from her chin and onto her waist. “Sweetheart, you’ve been through so much struggle and pain. You deserve to be happy and whole.” Her eyes brightened. I leaned in for another kiss. She threw her arms around me and kissed me passionately. Her lips were marvelous. A tingle of pleasure and desire ran down my spine. She slipped her hand inside my shirt and touched my stomach. I moaned audibly. Phoenix giggled and let her hand wander across my skin. Part of me was mesmerized by her touch, the other part of me was concerned with Quinn. Who would look after her if we got intimate? I pulled my face away from Phoenix’s. She was as equally out of breath as I was. Her concerned look worried me, “No, No. It’s not like that! Phoenix your kisses are intoxicating. Who will look after Quinn if we…?” My voice trailed off. Phoenix took a deep breath to steady herself. Her eyes were filled with desire just as mine were. She licked her lips innocently, it drove me wild.

“Hey now,” I moaned, “Easy.” My finger traced a line from behind her ear and down her jaw line. If she was going to tease me, I’d treat her the same. Phoenix tilted her head into the palm of my hand. Phoenix whimpered quietly. My mind raced with all the dirty enjoyable things I wanted to do to her. I wanted to make Phoenix moan and scream my name. I wanted to make her feel as fantastic and powerful as she truly was. My body ached for her, I needed her. I gazed into her eyes, I could tell she felt the same way. “Reese,” Phoenix buried her face into my neck. “I want my first time with you to be with Quinn too.” I involuntarily squeezed her tightly twice. Phoenix squeezed me once for several seconds. She had no idea what it meant. I wasn’t ready to tell her yet. I fell in love too quickly.

I peeled myself out of Phoenix’s arms. “I’m not strong enough,” I murmured to her. She looked up at me confused, “What do you mean?” I cleared my throat and spoke a little louder, “I’m not strong enough. If you want our first time to be with Quinn, I’m not strong enough to wait. I want to rip your clothes off, throw you over my shoulders, and take you to bed.” My voice turned into a growl of lust. Phoenix smiled seductively and walked away from me. I desperately wanted to follow her and give in to my primal desires. Yet she had given me a boundary and I would respect her wishes. I was unbelievably turned on. I didn’t want to bring that mess to Quinn until she was healed. A nice cold shower would take the edge off. I traveled to the bathroom, shed my clothes, and climbed into the shower. The icy water poured over my shoulders and caressed my curves.

I finished my shower and crawled into bed with Quinn. Her voice was sleepy, “Hello there.” I smiled and whispered in response, “Hi, did I wake you up?” Quinn shook her head slightly. “I heard you and Phoenix outside.” My cheeks turned a deep shade of pink. Quinn’s giggle turned into a nasty cough. I whimpered as I watched her body quake. My heart broke, I needed to figure out how to cure Quinn of this wolfsbane poison. I snuggled her tight to my chest and held her. I missed her so much. “Reese, I missed you,” Quinn murmured quietly. “I missed you too baby,” I answered. “I’m glad you’re here with me,” she replied. “I’m sorry. I’ve been away for so long. I’ve been looking everywhere for your cure. It feels like everytime I make the slightest progress, I hit another giant roadblock.” “Shh,” Quinn lifted her skinny finger to my lips. “You’ll figure it out. I believe in you.” Quinn fell into a troubled sleep. I followed her into dreamland.

We slept snuggled together through the night and well into the next evening. I felt a hand on the side of my face. I pried open my eyes and saw Quinn’s gaze. “Good morning,” she whispered. “Good morning,” I replied. “I’m glad you’re home safe,” Quinn’s voice was husky with sleep. “Me too baby. Me too.” Quinn snuggled deeper into me. I noticed how thin and bony she was. Her face was pale and sunken. Her eyes looked larger than usual. She had beautiful eyes. It hurt my heart to see her like this. Quinn was sick yet she was still gorgeous. I brushed a strand of stray hair behind her ear, “I love you Quinn.” “I love you Reese,” she responded. “Do you want to get some breakfast?” I asked her. She nodded her head.

I helped Quinn dress in one of my hoodies. She was so frail and thin my hoodie fit her like a tent. She stood in front of the mirror and gazed at herself. I noticed a frown cross her lips. “No,” I called to her. I gently spun Quinn around and looked into her eyes. “I won’t let you feel that way about yourself.” I kissed her sweetly on her lips. She wrapped her arms around me. I squeezed her twice and kissed her again. She moaned, “Oh Reese.” “You are beautiful, Quinn. Your body and your heart. You’re going through a rough patch right now. We will get through it together.” I kissed her lips again, dipped my head and kissed her neck. She gasped, “Hey now. Keep that up and I’ll put your head between my legs!” I kissed her a little harder and grazed her neck with my teeth ever so softly. “Come on. Let’s go before I get carried away and hurt you,” my voice full of desire.

“Oh yeah?” Quinn’s eyes sparkled. “What if I want you to get carried away?” My eyebrow lifted, “Are you strong enough? I don’t want to hurt you or make your condition worse.” She shushed me and put her finger to my lips. Quinn took my hand and led me to the bed. She laid down on it and beckoned to me. I knelt before her and kissed up and down her leg. I stopped just before her panty line. She moaned softly. “Don’t tease me. It’s been too long,” she begged. Normally I would tease her for much longer but this time I obliged her. I trailed my tongue along her thigh and gently flicked her lower lips. Quinn gasped. I grazed her bean with my tongue. She squealed with pleasure, “Oh that’s good! Keep going!” I grinned and obeyed.
