Midnight Luna
Chapter Thirty Four

Hailey’s POV

Everything around me was fine. It felt as if nothing was ever wrong. The pack members were happy and carefree, the children ran around playing with each other, mated wolves cuddled together outside in the chilly morning. Everything seemed perfect but then why was my heart pounding like it was being squeezed from the inside. I felt all this was just too prefect and anytime Logan would come and take everything I hold precious. I was on an edge and I could do nothing to stop it. I stood on the porch nursing a cup of coffee and just enjoying the happy picture in front of me. The cold morning wind flew past me and an involuntary shiver crossed my body making me hold the hot cup tighter. My thoughts went back to the thing nagging me the most. Hena.

It’s been four months and 3 weeks since I met Hena. After she told me her life story, I agreed that she could stay with us in the pack house under strict restrictions. She stayed back for two days and then left saying she felt suffocated with so many wolves and will try to go scout Logan’s fortress which apparently lies somewhere to the north of Canada. Well after that, I had received only a few letters from her giving us her location. It’s been 3 weeks and I haven’t heard from her. This makes me all the more anxious. I needed to know what was happening at Logan’s place and what his plan was.

“Hey baby.” He whispered in a seductive voice near my ear. Strong arms wrapped around me from behind and I suddenly felt hot and sweaty in this cold. I smiled feeling his hot breathe on my neck making my wolf jump in happiness. Zach and I had been going steady for a while. I hadn’t fully given myself to him but I knew I will soon. He had been the most loving and caring mate I could ever ask for. He made me feel so special and everyday he wouldn’t fail to show me how much he loved me. I hadn’t said those words back but I knew that deep down I was completely and madly in love with this alpha. I was just waiting for the right time.

“Hey yourself.” I replied. “What you doing here?” He asked kissing my neck, sending my heart on a wild run.

“Nothing, just watching the kids playing, wishing I could be like them, you know. Happy and free with nothing to hold me back. No burdens, no judgements. I miss it.” I whispered suddenly feeling low and scared. He tightened his arms around on me and put his chin on my shoulder.

“Hailey this is all just temporary. Believe me when all this is over I’ll take you away and make sure you are forever happy.” He said. I smiled and turned to face him pecking his lips but he had other plans. He held me firmly and deepened the kiss, gently biting my lips asking for entrance. I moaned and let him in tasting him and feeling ecstatic and turned on. We battled and finally I let him explore me with his tongue loving every wave of sheer pleasure that passed through my body. I got lost in the kiss as if we were the only two beings present.

“Ahem” Some coughed and I quickly pulled back to see Craig standing there looking at us with a smug face. Zach groaned in annoyance and he smirked even wider. “Hi don’t be mad at me. If you want privacy go get a room and not on the fucking porch.” I buried my face in Zach’s chest in embarrassment as he just chuckled at Craig. God how can he be so cool and composed after that little incident.

“Alpha, can we talk inside. Hailey if you could join us.” Levi said coming from behind us. Zach nodded and took my hand in his guiding us inside to the conference room. I was curious as to what would they want to talk about. We entered the room and my eyes immediately fell on Hayden. I smiled at him warmly and he came over and kissed my forehead. He nodded at Zach and then turned back to face the rest of the people in the room. There was Craig and Levi, Hayden and Felix.

“So what did you guys want to talk about?“Zach asked looking at Hayden. Craig stepped up and placed a hand on Zach’s shoulder.

“Zach, its time you speak to the pack and explain everything to them. They are so confused about you and Hailey’s relation and they deserve to be fully introduced to their Luna. It’s better to do it now so that their questions may be answered and no uproar is created.”

“Yeah Alpha, many have been asking questions but haven’t yet said it out loud. The absence of Esther is creating unrest among them.” Levi spoke up and Felix nodded in agreement.

Zach was quiet for a while and I squeezed his hand letting him know that I was there by his side always. He looked up to me in determination and then back at them.

“Aright call a pack meeting for today evening but don’t tell them anything. I’ll tell them and then announce Hailey’s true identity and maybe tell them about Logan.” He said that and quickly left the room still holding my hand. He took us to his room and closed the door. He finally let go of my hand and stood in the middle of the room with his back towards me. His tensed shoulders told me he was worried and I knew exactly why. I walked up to him and wrapped my arms around him as he held my hands with his.

“I know what you’re thinking Zach but you don’t have to worry. They are your people and they love and respect you. They know that you have done and will always do well for them. Trust me and besides I’ll be right there with you.” I said, letting him know that no matter what I will be right here.

“How do I do this? Hailey, help me. I don’t want my pack to hate me. They’ll never forgive me for letting you go, for letting their Luna go. How can I tell them that all this was not what I wanted and that they can trust me, their alpha? I swear I suck at this job. I am a shitty mate; a screwed up alpha and everything I do just falls apart. Maybe I should just let someone else do this because frankly right know all I am is plain terrified.” He said hanging his head low.

My chest ached seeing him like this. My wolf wanted to console him but I knew he needed to stand up and face the heat. I turned him so he was facing me. I held his shoulders and stared at him in anger. I shook him slowly. He looked at me with those lost puppy dog eyes and I melted right there.

“Listen to yourself Zach. This is not the Zach I know. I remember that the guy I had a crush on was arrogant, strong and didn’t run away from a challenge. He would face it head on and make sure that it never came back to bit his ass. Your people love you and they know that without you this pack would have been in a chaos. You hold them together and right now they need you more than anything. And whereas they forgive you or not well they have to just suck it up because I was let go and I forgive you. You have nothing to worry, those people out they rely on you and when they hear you, they’ll know you really regret it and you’ll do better. Stop feeling so low and man up.” I took a deep breath, suddenly feeling tired and exhausted. Damn who knew talking rationally could make you feel so tired.

“You had a crush on me?” He whispered. I scoffed, rolling my eyes at him. “Seriously? All that I said and you heard that?” I asked in disbelief. He grinned, cupping my cheeks and kissing me. As he pulled back, he smiled down at me lovingly.

“I heard you Hailey and I know that no matter what happens I will have you there. You are the only thing that has been good in my life.” He hugged me and I held him knowing I truly forgave him and I knew we will be okay.

“And thank you for forgiving me love.” He whispered and then kissed my cheek. I nodded and buried my face in his chest, feeling happy and relieved.

A few hours later.

Everyone was here. The barn was crowed and it was loud as everyone spoke at once. I stood at the back of the place just waiting for the moment everyone finally knew my story. I was scared; it felt very weird thinking of everyone knowing my secret. I hated that maybe if they knew they’ll pity me, or maybe they’ll try giving me those sympathetic looks. But what they didn’t know was that no matter how bad these 3 years had been for me and my wolf because of being away from Zach, there was part of me which was thankful from this distance from him. His rejection made me hate my life, but it had also made me a better person who had complete faith in herself. Back then I was a loner, weak girl who would cling on for support. Now I was a strong confident woman who could survive anything that they could put in my way.

I was so lost in thought I didn’t notice Zach climb onto the podium and came out of it only when he spoke.

“Hey everybody, I know I have called you’ll to this very sudden meeting. But it’s important and you deserve to know the truth.” He spoke as everyone heard him with the utmost respect. I could see it in their eyes that they loved him. He was indeed a great alpha.

“Today I stand here as a liar. Yes I have lied to you. I am not proud of it and I stand here asking you to forgive me. I may have done the most horrible mistake ever possible, but I am going to try to make up for it and until I succeed I won’t stop trying. What I failed to tell you was that Esther, your former Luna was never truly my mate.” He waited, as there was a round of gasps and whispers. Uncle Thomas and Hayden stood behind him on the stadium looking at everyone and I swear I saw guilty looks on their faces, especially Uncle Thomas.

“Yes, she wasn’t my mate. She was my arranged mate and I agreed to this because we all thought that she was well fit for the role as my Luna. But what I didn’t tell anyone was I had already found my mate then.” He said, looking at me with sad eyes and I managed a smile.

Uncle Thomas looked shocked and stared the Zach while Hayden just shook his head in sadness. Zach held his hand out and looked at me. Every eye in that barn looked at me and I felt small under their gaze.

“Hailey, love will you join me.” He asked me. I nodded and walked towards the podium. I felt eyes look me over and I had no clue if it was a good or bad look. They just stared. I reached and put my hand in is. He helped me up and squeezed my hand as I stood by him.

“Hailey Johnson, Daughter of the late beta, Derek’s daughter and my beta’s sister. I doubt you’ll recognize her. She has changed in these past few years. Back then, I was an arrogant and foolish alpha who was only interested in getting fame and my reputation matter the most. I rejected her but the second I did I hated myself and the guilt and loss ate me up. Hailey left the pack that day and I thought I would never see her again. 3 years was a torture and it was worse because I had told this to no one.” He said staring at everyone.

As he said these words I fell in love with him even more. Watching him speak about his actions and asking the pack for forgiveness made my heart glow. I knew being an alpha this must have been really hard for him. I finally felt wanted and I knew then that he was my forever. And I knew he won’t ever let me go. And I intended to do the same. I would rather die than ever run away from him.

He looked at me with so much love; I couldn’t stop my eyes from filling up.

“Hailey has agreed to be mine again and trust me when I say that I am never going to let her go again. I will work my ass off to make it up to her, but I won’t ever give her the chance to doubt us again. She’s my mate and I love her with every bone in my body. This is a promise I intend to keep as long as I live.” He said all this looking at me and I felt he said it to me rather the crowd. I couldn’t hold myself back and I crashed my lips on his and let him know through the kiss that I wanted him and needed him more than anything. He kissed me back instantly, wrapping his hands around me. The crowd cheered and it sounded like a thunderclap. We broke apart and Hayden slapped Zach on his back and wrapped his hands around me kissing my forehead.

“I am so happy right now, knowing my beloved sister and my crazy best friend are finally together. I thank the goddess for making this possible.” He said smiling brightly. I was glad it went well.

“Well let me be properly introduced to my daughter-by-law.” Uncle Thomas said pushing Hayden aside. Zach laughed and Hayden just grinned as Uncle Thomas held my shoulders. He looked at me with love and kissed my forehead. “I have to say my son is one hell of a lucky guy. Nowhere out there is a mate sweeter, kinder or compassionate then you.” He said. I laughed at him. “Well that is true Uncle Thomas.” I said raising my eyebrow at Zach, he grinned and just shook his head going over to talk to some of his pack members. I knew they must have some questions.

“Hey.” Uncle Thomas said. I looked at him. “Not Uncle Thomas, it’s dad for you.” I smiled and hugged him. Well I finally got a dad who I could meet and touch. Well I guess nothing could ever go bad today. How wrong I was to think that, because the moment I thought that I heard the barn door open and an injured warrior limped and following him was the smell of fire.

“Alpha, help! Rogues attacked us.” He screamed and then collapsed on the floor.
