Chapter 39 

Kevin nodded vigorously at Payne, his tone full of conviction, “Pineapple, after school tomorrow. I’m gonna grab Devil and give those jerks who hit Mommy a taste of their own medicine! You dig up where those baddies will be, and me and Devil will storm in there and tear them a new one!” 

Kevin clenched his tiny fists, grinding his teeth. Now it was Payne’s turn to be all gobsmacked, nodding at Kevin. Could his dad really be down to help Kevin teach those bullies a lesson? 

Payne was all twisted up with doubts inside, but he didn’t want to rain on Kevin’s parade. 

“Oh, and guess what?” Kevin suddenly remembered something else. “Mommy got me a tutor to help me catch up with studies. The man teaching me tonight is named Alex, and he totally mistook me for you!” 

“Alex?” Payne’s eyes went wide. 

Kevin nodded, “Yeah, that’s the guy! He looks so mean; I don’t dig him teaching me at all. I told him you’d help me with my studies!” 

“What subject you need help with, Kevin?” 

Kevin counted on his fingers, trying to remember what he was supposed to learn in kindergarten, and after a moment, he pouted, “I dunno what I’m supposed to catch up on!” 

Payne gave him a hint. “Usually, tutoring is for the stuff you’re not so hot at.” 

Kevin threw his hands up in the air, “Any class that involves picking up a pen and writing. whether it’s Math or language, I’m completely lost!” 

Saying this, he furrowed his brows and clutched at his chest, “Mommy says I have to take a full subject test next week, and I need to score at least 60 points! I’m only five! Why do I have to deal with all this!” 

Payne had seen Kevin’s homework before; it was all super easy stuff. 

“Kevin, how about I tutor you from now on, and I’ll make sure you ace that test!” 

The day after Athena hurt her arm, she had Linda drop off and pick up Kevin from school Back in his room, Kevin closed the door, picked a random lesson video he had downloaded on his computer, cranked up the volume, and hit play. 

Newman came back from grocery shopping when suddenly a little tyke bumped into him. 

“Hey, Icy Devil!” 

Newman saw a kid in a Spider–Man mask and costume waving at him, complete with a voice changer stuffed inside the mask. 

Kevin, with one hand on his hip and the other pointing at Newman, declared, “To avenge Athena, follow me, Devil. Let’s go dish out some justice!”

Chapter 39 

Newman walked around Kevin without a word. 

“Devil!” Kevin, with his little legs, chased after him. “We’re heading to this place; it’s where the baddies who hurt Athena are!” 

Newman looked down to see the kid holding a map with a big red circle on it. After Payne’s all–night sleuthing, he figured out that Mrs. West and her brother would be at Sunlight Spa for a massage at 4 PM. Payne printed a map of the spa for Kevin.. 

Only problem was, Kevin was holding the map upside down in front of Newman. He had no clue how to read it. 

“Who’re the baddies you’re talking about?” Newman asked. 

“Nossen Energy CEO’s wife, Wendy West!” 

Newman raised his chin; his guys had checked up on Wendy, who had brought a posse to the Silver Club to catch a cheater the previous day, mistaking Athena for the other woman and beating her up. 

Newman let out a cold chuckle. “You wanna get revenge for Athena?” 

“Yup! I’m gonna make those who hurt Athena cry for their mommies!” Kevin grabbed Newman’s hand, “Devil, let’s roll!” 

When Kevin grabbed his hand, Newman felt an odd twinge in his heart. For once, he didn’t shake off the kid’s hand. 

Kevin hopped into the passenger seat, shouting at Newman, “Let’s go! It’s time to rumble!” 

Newman stood by the car door, peering through the window at the kid in the Spider–Man mask, thinking he must be bored out of his mind to tag along with a kid to a fight. 

Sunlight Spa. 

Kevin stood on tiptoes, hands on the reception desk, and sweetly called out to the receptionist, “Miss, I’m looking for Wendy. Do you know where she is?” 

The CEO’s wife was a regular here, so the receptionist replied, “Mrs. Wendy West is in room a102 getting an aromatherapy massage. I’ll take you to her.” 

“Thanks. I’ll just take my bodyguard to see her.” 

The receptionist glanced at Newman, trailing behind Kevin. The man was decked out in a sleek black and white suit, and even behind shades, his dashing good looks were undeniable. She watched Newman and Kevin leave, starry–eyed. 

In the hallway, Anna, fresh from a massage, stepped out. Lifting her head, she froze in her tracks at the sight of Newman. What was he doing here? 

With Kevin hidden behind some plants, Anna assumed Newman was there solo. 

Biting her lip, she followed them from a distance. Even though she had hooked up with Zoey. 

Chapter 39 

Anna could tell Zoey was a deadbeat. If she wanted to secure a foothold in Stardale City, she needed a solid backer! 

Her mentor, the miracle healer Jerry, had told her that for five years, Newman had been using Scorpion, heating his blood to keep his son alive. 

Scorpion had altered Newman’s constitution; he couldn’t stand even a whiff of philter. For most people, a little philter sped up blood circulation, bringing joy and relaxation, but any hint of it in Newman’s system would magnify its effects a hundredfold. 

Anna’s hand brushed her purse subconsciously. Inside was a box of drugs intended for Zoey’s drink, to spice things up with that man. But now, it seemed like such a waste not to use it on Newman instead. 

In a private room, President West’s wife Wendy was lounging with a face mask on, while her brother Larry lay on another chair next to her. 

As the masseuse worked on their feet, Larry, with a worried look on his face, said, “I heard someone from the Bishop family that Jason went against Belinda’s wishes and inked a deal with the Dempsey Group. Belinda must be blowing a gasket. Without the Bishop family’s backing. Nossen’s road ahead is gonna be rough!” 

Wendy, with her eyes closed and the corners of her mouth turned down, had realized just last night that after mistaking Athena as the other woman, she actually got played by Athena herself. 

“I’ve already–started rallying the parents at the kindergarten to kick Athena’s kid out. 

Once her kid gets expelled, Athena’s reputation will take a hit too. If this cools Belinda’s jets, I’ll go butter her up and put in a good word for Nossen.” 

“So it was you pulling the strings!” A childish voice rang out, and a basin of foot–soaking water was kicked over, splashing onto Wendy’s face. 

Anna glanced at Newman not far away, pulled out a bottle from her bag, and poured the liquid inside into the aroma diffuser. Soon enough, the entire corridor would be filled with the scent of allure.
