No way! Emmanuel nodded. “Yeah, there is indeed someone I can never

forget!”

“What?!” Santiago realized he had been wrong about Emmanuel, spitting the

tea out of his mouth in disbelief. What?! No way! thought the old man to

himself,

“It’s my mother. Her health has worsened these days. Since my sister is

already married, I reckon I must return home to look after her,” Emmanuel

responded sincerely.

Upon hearing Emmanuel’s reply, Santiago heaved a sigh of relief. For a

second, he thought Emmanuel had found someone he loved. Shortly after

that, he let out a sigh and nodded. Well, a true man should also care about

his family besides fighting for his country.

“Moreover, I already have a crush on someone, and I can’t just leave her

behind like that, which is why I don’t think I’m fit to fight on the battlefield

anymore.” Emmanuel’s next response left Santiago startled as he spat the

black tea on the former’s face.

“W-What did you just say? You have a crush on someone?!” Santiago was

stupefied. Goodness! If my granddaughter finds out about this, she’s going to

make a big scene about it.

Emmanuel wiped off the droplets on his face, wondering why Santiago was

so agitated. What’s so surprising about having a crush on someone?

“In that case, I guess I have to tell you the situation about the Northern

Region.” Santiago eventually decided to tell Emmanuel about the Northern

Region after some hesitation, for he was afraid he would never see him again

if he made up his mind not to return.

Emmanuel nodded as he was concerned about the Northern Region as well.

After all, the place was like a second home to him.

“When you left the Northern Region back then, many people wanted to take

over your position as the new captain. Nevertheless, your outstanding

performance left a pair of big shoes to fill. Needless to say, whoever took over

your place often had to put up with the pressure of being severely criticized.

Because of that, the Wolf Warrior Unit became divided as everyone refused

to come together. As a result, many tough and difficult missions became

hard to accomplish, unlike how they used to be,” Santiago said despondently,

implying that Emmanuel’s return as the Wolf Warrior was the only way for the

squad to triumph like before.

Nevertheless, Emmanuel was seen with a complicated look on his face, but

even so, he didn’t accept his mentor’s offer, knowing he could never perform

as well as he used to.

Santiago became irritable. “Emmanuel, are you seriously going to stand by

and watch the Northern Region and the Wolf Warrior Unit fall?”

“You think too highly of me, Master! I have become nothing different from an

ordinary man ever since getting severely wounded three years ago.

Furthermore, I still have something I cannot forget. I’m sorry about that!”

replied Emmanuel helplessly.

“Alas, you’re such a disappointment, son! How many times have I taught you

this? Without our country, neither of us would survive until now. Have you

really forgotten your mission as a warrior for the Northern Region?” Santiago

let out a sigh once more.

How can I forget? Emmanuel thought to himself. Every warrior and soldier in

the Northern Region knew their purpose as they all had an obligation to fight

for Chanaea until their last breath.

When Emmanuel still hadn’t changed his mind even after Santiago’s

persistent persuasion, the latter sighed and said, “You took back the Wolf

Warrior Tablet, rascal! Naturally, you’re going to be his master! Furthermore,

even if you agree to return to the Northern Region, your reinstatement won’t

be easy either. Anyway, since you don’t want to come back, I’ll make an

exception for someone outside of the Wolf Warrior Unit to undertake a

triple-S class mission.”

“What kind of mission is that?” Emmanuel paused and asked. After all, he

didn’t think he was as fit as he used to be before, not to mention his

reluctance to return to the battlefield. Therefore, he didn’t understand why his

mentor still trusted him so much.
