Chapter 14

The top-tier jewelry banquet was held in a private showroom with a stringent security. system. Tonight, the streets around were cordoned off, with security personnel patrolling the area and conducting rigorous checks on the guests.

Eileen, clutching her pearl clutch bag, passed through security and let out a sigh of relief. She was then escorted by a hostess into the lavish hall of the banquet.

Inside the opulent hall, rows of glass showcases were set up, although the exhibition hadn’t started yet. The guests were ushered into an adjacent restaurant for a sophisticated buffet dinner. Eileen found herself seated at the enviable sixth position, at spot indicative of high status.

It was Mathew’s place, and she was fortunate to attend in his stead.

As the other guests settled in, Eileen was seated next to a man in his 30s, with slick, shiny hair and an outfit of custom brands, indicating his significant status.

His gaze fell admiringly on Eileen. Despite the presence of many beautiful women, she stood out with her unique charm and elegance.

“Miss, it’s a pleasure to meet you. My name is Terrell Burke.” The man introduced. himself, handing her his business card that read: “President of the Glorious Group”.

“Nice to meet you, I’m Eileen Norman,” she replied with a polite smile.

Just then, the last two noticeably late guests arrived.

A couple, arm in arm, made their entrance. Eileen wondered who these latecomers.

were.

As she raised her head, she was stunned. She had not expected the late arrivals to be Winston and Belen. It was an unexpected encounter.

As Eileen’s gaze fixed on Belen, dressed to allure, her grip on her cutlery tightened in disdain. She harbored deep-seated hatred for that woman.

Winston, in his expensive tailor-made black shirt and sharp trousers, exuded a powerful aura with his impressive height and stride.

The women at the event gasped in awe. They hadn’t expected to encounter the heir to the Nielsen Group at such an event. But who was the woman with him? She didn’t seem particularly beautiful.

Could she be his girlfriend? The other women’s eyes were filled with a mix of jealousy and envy.

Eileen pretended not to notice them and sipped her red wine.

Meanwhile, Belen spotted Eileen and was taken aback. She hadn’t expected to run into Eileen at such a high-class event.

She thought in disdain, ‘What right does she have to be here? Is she even qualified?’

Winston also noticed Eileen, and as fate would have it, he was seated directly opposite her. For Eileen, avoiding him was no longer an option.

Eileen lifted her gaze, meeting a pair of deep, inscrutable eyes. Under the candlelight, his sculpted, handsome features were striking. Dense eyelashes, almost like natural eyeliner, framed his profound, ocean-like eyes. The proud bridge of his nose and slightly pursed thin l*ps exuded an indescribable sensual charm.

This man must be the most handsome man in the world, Eileen thought.

She blinked, realizing that while she was staring at him, he was also gazing back at her. Their eyes locked for several seconds.

Just then, Eileen felt from Belen.

a resentful and bitter look directed at her comin

“Ms. Norman, cheers.” Terrell, sitting beside her, initiated a conversation warmly.

Eileen raised her glass to clink with his, smiling politely. Compared to Winston across the table, she found Terrell far more agreeable.

Belen’s boyfriend was her enemy.

“Ms. Norman, try this, it’s really good,” Terrell said, obviously pleased by Eileen’s warmth, thinking he might have a chance to impress her tonight.

“Thank you,” Eileen replied, sampling the dessert he offered, her sweet smile evident.

“Winston, I want that one.” Belen, clinging to Winston’s arm, pointed coquettishly at a dessert a bit far away from her.

Winston reached out to grab it for her, and then she began to eat it happily, casting a triumphant glance at Eileen.

Eileen internally rolled her eyes, wondering what skills Belen possessed to hold on to Winston, who seemed to cater to her every whim, treating her like a treasure.

“I need to use the restroom,” Eileen announced, feeling a sudden urgency. As she stood up, her evening gown sparkled under the candlelight, her sensuous mermaid-like waistline evident-a true siren’s allure for men.

Terrell’s gaze followed her intently as she left the table. Winston, sipping his drink,

glanced over the rim of his glass at her. Her presence here was indeed unexpected.

“Winston, I’ll go to the restroom too,” Belen said, rising to follow Eileen.

In the lavishly decorated restroom, which was momentarily empty, Eileen was washing her hands when Belen walked in slowly.

“You didn’t get in here by clinging to some man, did you?” Belen mocked, looking at her through the mirror.

Eileen cast a cold glance at her reflection. “What’s it to you?”

“I heard the guest selection tonight is very strict, involving financial vetting. How could someone with your ordinary status be invited?”

“And how exactly are you any more noble?” Eileen retorted with a cold, mocking laugh.

“Isn’t the status of Winston’s girlfriend noble enough?” Belen said with a smug look on her face.

Eileen snorted. “Do you believe that with just one word from me, you could be sidelined from your position as Winston’s wife?”

Belen’s face turned pale instantly. “What do you mean?”

She thought in horror, ‘Could it be that Eileen remembers what happened that night?’

Eileen gave a cold laugh. “You want to know? Fine, I’ll tell you. The person my mother sacrificed herself to save was none other than Winston.”

After she heard that, Belen’s face showed a look of extreme shock. ‘Eileen’s mother saved Winston?

‘How could

is be? Such a coincidence? If that’s the case, even if Eileen is unaware of the incident that night, she can leverage this debt of gratitude to gain favor with the Nielsen family,’ she mused.

“You’d better not provoke me, or the position of Mrs. Nielsen could easily become mine.” Eileen warned her.

As Belen’s courage faltered, her fists clenched as a wave of apprehension surged within

her.

“Eileen, I am truly sorry for what happened back then. Please forgive me,” Belen said, guilt written all over her face.

“Expecting my forgiveness?” Eileen flicked the water from her freshly washed hands. onto Belen’s face. “In your dreams.”

Belen tried to dodge, but her face still got splashed. Angrily biting her l*p, she glared at Eileen’s retreating figure.

Tonight, Eileen was stunningly beautiful, just as Belen had always known since they

were young.

Eileen. I will never let you marry Winston. He’s mine!’ Belen thought fiercely, clenching her fists.

Returning to the dining table, Eileen seductively brushed her hair behind her ear. Looking up, she again met the gaze of the man across the table. The candlelight flickered in his eyes, making them appear as deep and lustrous as black opals.

In his eyes, the woman opposite him shone like a pearl glowing in the night, graceful and captivating. Her bright eyes and radiant smile, every gesture, drew the attention of the men around her.

Unbeknownst to Eileen, among the high-society ladies present that night, she stood out with her exceptional charm, beautiful yet unaware of her allure.
