Natalia clung onto Comelia’s hand, squeezing so hard it hurt. “Cornelia, is it because had a thing with Marcus that you don’t want to be friends with me anymore?” Comelia looked at Natalia, who seemed truly desperate to be her friend, but she couldn’t be friends with someone whose values were so different from hers. “Natalia, we were never truly friends to begin with…”

Upon hearing that she was Marcus’s assistant, Clair’s attitude did a 180. “Then why didn’t you introduce her to us earlier?” 

‘Natalia, I’m gonna head out,” Cornelia said, turning to leave. She had no interest in arrogant people, and had no desire to be involved with them. 

From behind, Clair’s sharp voice rang out, “She’s Marcus’s assistant, but she’s nothing more than a glorified errand girl, acting all high and mighty in front of me.” 

Hearing the mocking voice, Cornelia whipped around, smiling at Clair, “For a woman of the Reese family, and the lady of one of the top four families in Riverton, you sure don’t know the first thing about manners. Just barking around like some stray dog. I wonder where you picked up such a lack of decorum” 

With that, Cornelia turned again, walking away with grace. She had to shop for clothes, cook dinner, and wait for Zack and Abigail to come home. 

In the Reese family, few dared to talk back to Clair. Clair was left fuming, unable to conjure up a retort, and could only watch Cornelia leave. 

“Cornelia…” Natalia wanted to chase after Cornelia, but Clair stopped her. “What did you call that woman?” 

“She’s Cornelia Is there a problem, mom?” Natalia asked. 

“Where is she from?” Clair asked. 

“I think she’s from Rosenberg,” Natalia answered. 

Clair’s face went pale, her heart pounding. “You can’t have any more contact with he 

“Why?” Natalia was confused. 

“I just don’t want you to have any contact with her. You need to listen to me, and you don’t need to know why” Clair stated. 

“But I can only get close to Marc through her…” Natalia started. 

“You’ll have to find another way. No matter how you get close to Marcus, you can’t have any contact with her Clair instructed.
