Dr. Dawson wiped her tears, took a deep breath and said, “You’re right. We chose this path. We gotta stay loyal to the boss, even if it costs un our lives 

Ayden just nodded 

Dr. Dawson continued. “I think Marc’s thing for Comelia is more than just ‘cause she’s his wife. He truly digs her You gotta look out for her mors Can’t have happened tonight happening again” 

Ayden just nodded again. 

Dr. Dawson knew Ayden’s style He didn’t talk much. It was usually just her talking and him listening attentively

She added. “If Marc hadn’t been quick to send backup and hopped on his private jet to Woodpine in time, Cornelia might’ve been snatched by Zavier That guy’s bad news. If he’d gotten what he wanted, it would’ve been a real doozy trying to get Cornelia back.” 

Ayden just said. “I got it.” 

Dr. Dawson lifted her head and once again saw that shocking scar on his face No matter how many times she saw it, it always stung her heart. “You gotta keep that medicine I gave you on you at all times. It could save your hide” 

Ayden nodded again 

Dr. Dawson sighed. “You could talk a bit more, you know” 

All Ayden said was, “Hmm” 

Dr. Dawson glanced at him. She knew how he was and didn’t expect him to be more talkative. 

Steven was a witness to last night’s events. He saw the face–off between Marcus and Zavier. If neither of them backed down, their years of brotherhood could go down the drain. So, he invited Lucas to Woodpine and arranged a lunch today 

He hoped they could meet halfway at the lunch. But before it even started, his wife was itching to leave him. He definitely wouldn’t agree to that. 

Steven stood his ground, so Rosie had to sweet talk her husband, “Lucas, you promised I could hang out with Hannah and Cornelia if I came to Woodpine with you. Keep your promise or I’m not gonna trust you ever again” 

Lucas pretended to think it over. “Let’s just get another private room next door. The girls can eat here and we guys will be next door and not bother you if you need us, just holler and we’ll be right over.” 

Rosie stomped her foot, “No!” 

Steven passed the buck to Marcus, “Marc, what’s your take on this?” 

Ever since Cornelia arrived, Marcus hadn’t taken his eyes off her. She had a good night’s sleep and looked well rested today. 

When Steven called him out, Marcus finally looked away from Cornelia, “If they want to do their own thing, let them. Even the closest couples are still individuals. No one is an appendage of the other. Giving each other some room, I think that’s better for the relationship”
