Chapter 650

Once Jared let go of her, he smirked, “Sorry, couldn’t help it.”

Jared, in high spirits as always, walked into the house carrying a basket of spinach. Agnes, on the other hand, was fuming.

The weather was bitterly cold that day. Agnes was so numb she had forgotten to push Jared away. She followed him into the house.

Grandma was just pulling out a pair of knitted socks from a drawer for Jared, “These were made just a couple of days ago. Try them on, see if they’re warm enough. The cotton is homegrown. Can’t find this quality in stores.”

Jared slipped them on, “They’re very warm, thank you, grandma.”

Agnes walked into the room and sarcastically remarked, “Grandma, you never treat me this well.”

Agnes‘ grandmother shot Agnes a stern glance, “Jared visits me every month for the past couple of years. And you? You’ve called me twice in the past few years. I think Jared deserves my love more than you do.”

Agnes was left speechless. She was indeed grateful for everything Jared had done over the years.

In the afternoon, they all gathered around the table to make meat pies. Even Nocturne was getting the hang of it. Jared, the culinary whiz, had no issues.

Agnes, however, hadn’t made meat pies since she moved to Manhattan. Her attempts resulted in a few bad–shaped pies causing her grandma to grimace, “Look at these pies, they don’t even resemble anything.”.

Agnes replied, “Grandma, you know I’m not good at cooking.”

“Then what are you good at, eating? Jared has spoiled you. Jared, teach her.”

Jared nodded, then he showed Agnes how to stuff the pie. His hands moved with a practiced ease and quickness.

Agnes, however, was more focused on his hands. Jared had beautiful hands. But Agnes‘ gaze lingered on his ring finger. It was bare. Had he and Valeria really broken off their engagement?

Agnes was lost in thought when grandma knocked her out of her daze with a spoon, “You’re supposed to be learning, not daydreaming!” Agnes snapped back to reality, “Grandma, I can’t do it.”

She had never been good at cooking. Some people just don’t have the knack or the interest. And Agnes thought her meat pies were not as perfect as Jared’s, but they were acceptable. Grandma had never been this critical with her before.

Exasperated, grandma said, “I’m doing this for your own good. You can’t live off burgers and sandwiches forever. Think about your son. You need to learn to cook for him,”

Then, turning to Jared, she commanded, “Jared, teach this clumsy girl properly. You’re not eating dinner until she gets it right.”

With that, grandma left with a batch of pies to cook them in the kitchen.

Jared raised an eyebrow, walked over to Agnes, circled her from behind, and took her hands, “I’m only teaching you once, so don’t get me starved.”

Agnes had initially wanted to refuse him. But seeing Jared’s reluctant face, she reluctantly agreed to learn. But their hand–in–hand position was definitely a bit awkward.
