Chapter 631

Agnes was the first to step out of the study

Jared and Ryder were not far behind

Once outside, Ryder grabbed Agnes‘ hand and led her to the balcony at the end of the corridor.

Jared watched them leave with cold eyes, but didn’t follow

As it turned out, Agnes had something to say to Ryder too.

So, she let Ryder lead her to the balcony.

This was an aerial garden at the Whitfield Manor.

It used to be Agnes‘ favorite spot.

There was a small wooden table and some log chairs on the balcony.

Ryder let go of Agnes‘ hand once they reached the balcony.

Turning around, he asked, “Did you intentionally let my uncle find out?”

Though it was a question, his tone suggested he already knew the answer.

Agnes was at a loss for a moment. But she quickly realized that he was talking about Nocturne’s identity.

He thought she had purposely let Jared know that Nocturne was his child.

Agnes chuckled, “Why would I do that? You know better than anyone that my biggest fear is Jared finding out about Nocturne

Ryder’s voice was cold and ruthless, “Isn’t it because old flames die hard?”

Agnes felt a pang in her heart, as if pierced by his words.

With a hint of anger, she retorted, “Ryder, I wouldn’t do such a petty thing. I don’t want any more emotional entanglement with the Whitfields, Jared or you, got it?

Ryder frowned.

Agnes continued, “Since we’re on the topic, I’ll clear the air about the past today. I know what you’re up to. You just proposed to me in front of Tim, but you don’t really want to marry me. You’re just trying to rile Tim up, make him think I’ve been indecisive between you and Jared all these years, make him believe I’m using your feelings to get back at the Whitfields, so he’ll oppose my reuniting with Jared. That’s your real aim.”

Ryder’s gaze shifted a bit but he appeared nonchalant, “Yes, I didn’t expect to come back and hear you two are getting back together. I know my uncle’s stubbornness. My grandfather would eventually give in. But if he thinks you’ve been playing games between us, he’ll never agree to your reunion.”

Agnes laughed coldly, “In fact, I should really thank you.”

Ryder’s eyes were icy, as if he could see right through her, “I can’t see any gratitude in you. Were you already wavering, using Nocturne’s identity as a convenient excuse to reunite with my uncle?”

Agnes snapped, “Ryder, don’t think you know me. How would you know what I truly want? I never thought about remarrying Jared. We’ll never get back together.”

Suddenly, Agnes felt angry, though she didn’t know why.

She was also feeling a bit unsettled.

Just a moment ago, she seemed to waver.

Over the years, Agnes often wondered if things weren’t as they seemed back then.

If Alyssa had only been covering for Laura, could she and Jared have a second chance?

Chapter 632

Chapter 632

Agnes thought she might be really crazy, having such thoughts.

But just now, in the study, when Jared gripped her hand and proposed remarriage,

she actually hesitated for a moment, and began to fantasize about this possibility.

At this moment, Agnes was snapped back to reality by the cold wind.

It’s been four years.

A lot had happened in these four years, whether for her or for Jared.

Even if the grudges of the past had been smoothed over, they couldn’t go back to what they used to be

Jared was not the same Jared anymore

He had a fiancee, close friends.

Whether he was sincere to these people, Agnes was not sure.

But what Agnes did know was that from the day they broke up four years ago, their lives had been like two straight lines, quickly extending in different directions.

There might be a momentary intersection, but they could never overlap.

She really must be out of her mind.

Even so, when Ryder bluntly exposed her, Agnes was still a bit pissed off.

It was as if he had seen through the most embarrassing side of her heart.

Agnes glared at Ryder in anger.

Ryder wasn’t pushing her around anymore, his voice had softened, “If you can think like this, I can rest assured. My uncle has changed, especially since he engaged Valeria Thomas. This woman, I’m afraid you can’t handle her.”

Agnes was still a bit pissed, “You don’t have to be so nice, Ryder, and there are some things I want to tell you too.”

“I know what you want to say, you’re saying that you and I will never happen, right?”

Agnes was stunned.

The words she wanted to say were spoken by Ryder ahead of time, feeling like a lump stuck in her throat.

Agnes was silent for a few seconds, then she said, “Since you know, don’t waste your effort anymore. I only have gratitude for you, in my heart, you are just Nocturne’s doctor, and our relationship will only stay at doctor and patient’s relative. Besides, if Tim strongly opposes me remarrying Jared, do you think he can accept me being with you?”

Agnes understood Ryder’s thoughts.

She had said these words more than once.

But there were some things that Agnes still didn’t understand.

When they were in Manhattan, there was always a certain distance between her and Ryder.

There seemed to be a clear boundary between them, and no one could cross it.

But after returning to her homeland, Ryder suddenly crossed this boundary.

Compared to Jared, Ryder’s actions also caught her off guard.

Ryder said, “Agnes, I’ve never forced you to be with me. But, the premise is that you can’t be with anyone else. That way, I still have hope. I’m not a selfless person, on the contrary, my love for you is selfish. I want to be with you, whether as a lover or a friend, I can wait. But, if you really remarry my uncle, I will have no place to stand. So, I will stop you, even if I need to hurt my uncle.”

Ryder was very sincere.

Agnes‘ heart was full of bitterness.

After leaving Jared, Agnes seemed unable to love again.

Ryder probably knew this too, so the only thing he cared about was her relationship with Jared.

In the past few years, Agnes had never thought about falling in love, let alone stepping into the marriage hall.

She planned to live this way for the rest of her life.

As long as Nocturne grew up healthy and recovered soon, like other normal children, Agnes had no other requirements.

But Ryder’s current situation worried her.

7 2 5

She could choose not to marry for life, but Agnes did not want Ryder to wait for her for life.

Chapter 633

Agnes felt totally defeated facing Ryder

She had repeated her words countless times.

Indeed, Ryder did share a similarity with Jared.

They both had an almost masochistic stubbornness.

And these geniuses seemed to always believe in their ability to change the status quo.

Agnes didn’t want to talk anymore.

Agnes began, I’ll head back to Manhattan as soon as possible.”

After she finished, she turned and walked away.

Agnes went to Jared’s bedroom.

The door was open.

Jared was inside.

Nocturne was sitting on the sofa chatting with Jared.

“They told me you’re my dad.” Nocturne said.

Jared replied calmly, “Yes, I’m your biological father.”

“My mom told me I don’t have a dad.”

“That’s because your mom didn’t tell you the truth. Every child has a father and a mother.”

“I know that, but I thought you guys are divorced.”

Jared stayed silent for a moment, then replied, “We are divorced.”

A frown appeared on Nocturne’s face, “Why did you divorce? Don’t you love my mom?”

A hint of pain flashed in Jared’s eyes, “You’re still young. You wouldn’t understand that in this world, loving someone doesn’t mean you can be with them. There are many things that your mom and I can’t control.”

Agnes didn’t expect Jared to speak from a child’s perspective.

In front of the child, he didn’t blame their separation on her.

Even though he hated her so much.

Agnes‘ heart was filled with bitterness.

Nocturne seemed a little clueless, “Maybe I don’t understand adult feelings. Will you guys be together in the future?”

Jared gently touched Nocturne’s hair, “We will, I promise. You’ll have a complete family.”

Nocturne thought for a moment and then said okay.

The room fell into silence again.

Jared suddenly asked, “Could you call me ‘dad‘?”

Nocturne looked at Jared, calm as ever, “Sorry, I need my mom’s permission first.”

Jared replied helplessly, “Alright then, just call me Jared.”

Hearing this, Agnes couldn’t hold back anymore.

She stood at the door, afraid she would soften.

Agnes walked in, “Summer, we should leave.”

Nocturne stood up from the sofa, “Mom, you’re back.”

Nocturne glanced at Jared, said nothing, and didn’t ask any questions.

Jared also stood up, “Nocturne can’t go with you.”

“Jared, I don’t want to argue with you in front of our child. You said that if I came back with you to the Whitfield family, there would be a resolution. I came back, hoping you’ll keep your promise.”

Jared’s face turned pale, and he said nothing.

He didn’t expect Ryder to come back and interfere.

In fact, he had noticed, Tim’s attitude wasn’t as hard as before.

Jared was confident he could convince Tim.

But everything was ruined by Ryder.

But then again, even if he could convince Tim, what would it change

This woman’s heart was as hard as stone.

Not to mention her relationship with Ryder…

17:04

At this moment, Ryder walked in.

Ryder said to Agnes, “Let Nocturne stay here for now. I brought a new medication for him. We’ll start him on it today, but I need to monitor his reactions.” Agnes trusted Ryder completely when it came to Nocturne’s illness.

She was completely at ease leaving Nocturne with Ryder.

Besides, now that Nocturne’s identity had been revealed, there was no need for her to hide anymore.

Also, Agnes had other matters to attend to.

Before going back to Manhattan, she had to find that remittance slip.

She might need to go to the Capital again to see Laura.

She also needed to find an opportunity to deal with Alyssa.

Having Nocturne at the Whitfield Manor might be a good chance.

Chapter 634

Finally, Agnes left Nocturne at the Whitfield Manor

She needed to start thinking long–term.

Tim was so pissed, there’s no way she could stick around the Whitfield Manor any time soon.

Agnes left the Whitfield Manor. She was beat.

Grabbed a cab, went straight back to the Pritchard family’s villa.

She’d been on high alert, but it all went belly up in the end.

All Agnes wanted now was to get some sleep.

But as soon as she got back to the Pritchard family’s villa, something feit off.

The front door was open.

Someone broke into the villa?

Agnes was a little nervous.

She thought it was a burglar, was about to call the police.

But then she spotted the shoe print at the entrance.

For some reason, she recognized the owner of shoe print right away.

Combined with the strong scent of Beatrice’s favorite perfume.

Beatrice was back.

There were no signs of forced entry, the door was unlocked with a key.

Back in the day, when Agnes got the deed from Laura, Beatrice flat out refused to hand over the keys.

Agnes didn’t push her.

She was just going to change the locks later.

But she didn’t get a chance to change the lock when Beatrice tried to run her over with her car. Then she went abroad.

But four years later, Beatrice had settled down in the Capital.

Now she’s back in Willowbrook Town and at the Pritchard family House. Agnes took off her shoes and went quietly upstairs. Beatrice was in Agnes‘

bedroom.

She hunched over, rummaging through the drawer by Agnes‘ bed.

“Beatrice, what the hell are you doing?”

Agnes broke the silence.

Beatrice nearly jumped out of her skin.

She stood up quickly.

She was holding a stack of photos.

With the shock, the photos slipped from her hands onto the floor.

Beatrice bent over to pick them up.

But Agnes beat her to it.

She picked up the photos, clutching them in her hand.

“Agnes, give me those photos back!” Beatrice was hopping mad.

Agnes ignored her.

She started looking at the photos in her hand.

To her surprise,

she didn’t recognize the girl in the photos, but she seemed familiar.

The photos showed the girl serving drinks.

Some were scantily clad, some in a bunny costume.

She was always surrounded by a bunch of men, being bullied.

She always seemed timid.

And then, Agnes found bloody threats.

Looking at the photos, a few scenes flashed through Agnes‘ mind.

She remembered now, the girl was Sharon.

The girl Jared had just defended, telling Tim to back off.

17:04

Agnes had seen photos of Sharon before

She was a big shot in the entertainment industry

Her suicide over relationship issues had been all over the news recently.

But Agnes didn’t make the connection at first.

The girl in the photos looked very young, like photos of Sharon before she made it big.

And the photos were mostly of her serving drinks to guests, in quite revealing situations.

You could say these were some unknown stories from her early days.

Agnes had been in the entertainment industry herself.

She saw through Beatrice’s motives right away.

Agnes held the photos, “Beatrice, where the hell did you get these? What the hell are you up to?”

Beatrice tried to snatch the photos, “Agnes, none of your damn business!”

But Beatrice reached out, held the photos up high, but couldn’t get them.

Agnes spoke up. “Let me fill you in on your plan. Sharon didn’t kill herself over a relationship issue on the day of Jared’s engagement, she did it because she got these photos and threats from you, right? And you’re here today, leaving these photos by my bed, trying to pin the blame on me. If I’m not mistaken, after you plant these photos, you’ll find a way to let the media know, find evidence. Your real goal is to use Sharon to ruin Jared’s wedding, get rid of the thorn in your side, and have me take the fall. Killing several birds with one stone, aren’t you?”

Chapter 635

Beatrice couldn’t have predicted Agnes would be so smart after four years.

Agnes laid bare all her intentions.

Yup, Sharon committed suicide because she was sent those pictures.

Because Beatrice knew Sharon had a case of the blues.

She was always so uptight about her image in the showbiz.

The thing that could hit her where it hurts was her painful past.

Her goal was to use Sharon to crash Jared and Valeria’s engagement party

She didn’t think about pinning it on Agnes initially.

But after Sharon bumped herself off, her agent called ‘the cops.

The police eventually found the threat letter and pictures at Sharon’s place.

Although the whole thing hadn’t been aired in public yet.

But whether it’s the police or Jared, they would definitely sniff it out.

That’s when Beatrice thought about framing Agnes.

Wasn’t Sharon Jared’s main squeeze?

Wasn’t Agnes his sweetheart?

Then let his two beloved women hurt each other, so that she could benefit from their conflict.

Beatrice knew a lot of stuff went down recently.

Jared suddenly had a kid.

She also knew that Agnes hadn’t been back to the Pritchard family’s mansion lately.

So she took the chance to sneak the pictures in, planning to stage a burglary, bring in the cops, and then expose these photos to stir up trouble.

Beatrice thought her plan was bulletproof.

But she didn’t expect to be caught red–handed by Agnes.

Beatrice was a bit flustered, but she definitely wouldn’t admit it.

Beatrice started, “Agnes, don’t go pointing fingers. I just came to check things out. These photos were just what I found from your drawer, you can’t

frame me.”

Agnes scoffed, “Then what were the gloves for during the day? Afraid of leaving fingerprints?”

“I like wearing gloves, okay?”

Agnes didn’t have the patience to argue with her. She pointed at the corner, saying, “I forgot to tell you, my room is under surveillance. From the moment you stepped in, everything you did was recorded. Maybe I should call the police now and let them check who brought these stuff.”

Agnes picked up her phone, ready to dial the number.

“Stop!” Beatrice suddenly cried out.

She didn’t expect Agnes to have surveillance in her room.

If the cops come, she’s toast.

Including her disguise, her perfect image she had been crafting for the past four years.

Jared was always disgusted by her character. She pretended to have amnesia these years and Jared’s attitude towards her changed a bit.

If he knew about her deeds, she’s really done for.

Beatrice went over and grabbed Agnes‘ hand. “Agnes, don’t call the cops. I admit I’m no match for you. Do whatever you want with me, just don’t involve the police. I’ve made a good amount of money over the years. I can give you a bunch. Anything you need, I can provide.”

Agnes chuckled, “You think I’m short on cash?”

Agnes was back now, she had all the wealth of the Pritchard family.

She also had shares in the Starlight International Group, Agnes surely wasn’t short on cash.

Beatrice said, “I can give you whatever you want.”

Now Beatrice was at a disadvantage. Although she was fuming inside, wishing to get rid of the person in front of her at once, she still had to play nice on

the surface.

Agnes frowned slightly, silent for a few seconds, as if thinking about something.

“Beatrice, I might consider letting you off the hook if you can get something from your mother for me. Then we can pretend today never happened.”
