Agnes sauntered over.

The woman on the other side noticed her.

She pulled off her headphones, shutting her laptop.

To make it up to Ivan, Agnes gave away her 20% stake in Starlight International Group to Century Entertainment for free.

“It’s better than selling it to some random people who might change its name. I’m grateful that you kept the name Starlight International Group,” Agnes said earnestly.

Ivan crossed his arms, “Like I said, Agnes, I’m just temporarily managing Starlight International Group. You can take it back whenever you want.”

Agnes shook her head, “Let’s keep business separate, Ivan. I know you’ve already helped me a lot. Everyone was steering clear of Starlight International Group thinking it was beyond saving. You took a big risk buying it, and I’m really grateful. So, let’s not talk about giving it back. Starlight International Group now belongs to Century Entertainment, those shares are yours. Even if I want to buy it back one day, I’ll pay a fair price, I won’t shortchange you.”

Ivan smiled, “Then I’ll wait for you.”

He stood up, stretched, and said, “The reaction from that mother–daughter duo today was really satisfying. Agnes, come over for dinner tonight to celebrate. Mamie has the day off.”

Agnes happily agreed, “Sure, I’ve missed Mamie.”

In the afternoon, Agnes made a special trip to the supermarket to buy some fresh ingredients.

She looked outside the door and asked, “Did you come alone? Where’s Jared?”

Mamie and Ivan didn’t know about Agnes and Jared yet.

“I came by myself.” replied Agnes.

“Well, come in then.” said Mamie.

Mamie looked very tired.

Agnes knew from the news that she had just returned from a film festival and her exhausted state was understandable.

On TV, Mamie was always a flawless, aloof goddess radiating a powerful aura.

But at this moment, what Agnes saw was a woman in cartoon pajamas, with messy hair and a dazed look in her eyes.

However, Agnes preferred the real–life Mamie.

Mamie looked extremely tired, she waved her hand and said, “I won’t entertain you, make yourself at home. I didn’t sleep last night, so I need to catch some z’s now.” Agnes puzzledly asked, “Didn’t the news say you got off the plane at seven last night? How come you didn’t sleep all night?”

“But the country you went to isn’t far from us.” 

“Agnes, are you trying to get me to say that Ivan kept me up all night?” Mamie blushed angrily.

Agnes laughed heartily, coaxing like a child, “Go sleep now, make the most of your time. Ivan will be back in four hours, then even if you want to sleep, you won’t be able to.”

Mamie muttered a few words, then went upstairs.

Having teased Mamie, Agnes was in a good mood.

She thought if she had the time, she might as well start preparing dinner.

Agnes started making sandwiches.

Ivan was back.

“Go to the dining room first,” Agnes told Mamie, “I’ll make one more dish and then we can have dinner.” 

Mamie left.

Agnes quickly made some fries and headed straight to the dining room.

“Dinner’s ready,” Agnes said with a smile.

But when she saw another person in the dining room, she stopped in her tracks.

Jared was standing at the doorway, holding a bottle of wine.

Mamie had already set the table. “Jared, come on over. The food’s made by Agnes, you’re really lucky. Your wife is a star, makes money, and can cook. You better be good to her, or tons of people would be eyeing your spot.”

Jared gave a small smile. “I will.”

Then he entered the room.

Agnes immediately avoided Jared’s gaze.

She wasn’t a good actress, so she couldn’t act that nothing had happened.

She didn’t know whether Ivan had planned this or it was just an accident.

But Mamie was clueless.

During dinner, Agnes and Jared didn’t communicate. She directly asked, “Did you two have a fight?”

“No,” Jared said faintly.

“We didn’t fight, we’re just getting a divorce,” Agnes replied.

Ivan frowned, but Mamie was so shocked she dropped her cutlery.

“You’re joking, right?” Mamie asked cautiously.

In the past, whenever Agnes mentioned divorce, Jared would get angry.

But now he seemed to be used to it.

He picked up a piece of meat and gently placed it in Agnes‘ bowl.

Then he told Mamie with a smile, “She’s just joking.”

But Mamie wasn’t relieved.

Agnes immediately put down her cutlery. “Jared, I’m not joking with you. If you refuse to divorce with me, I’ll go to the court to sue. Even if you don’t defend or show up, as long as I get the divorce verdict, it doesn’t matter if you refuse or not

Jared slammed his cutlery down. “You can sue all you want. See if any lawyer will take your case and get a divorce verdict.”

He sneered, “In this lifetime, you can’t leave me anymore.”

Agnes was also angry. “Jared, do you find this fun?” 

“I find it extremely fun.”

“You’re being totally unreasonable.”

Agnes got up and left the dining room.

Mamie and Ivan exchanged looks, then followed her out.

Jared was also fuming.

Ivan opened a bottle of wine and got Jared some.

“This is a vintage from ’92. It hurts to see you drink like this,” Ivan remarked.

“Don’t forget who brought this wine,” Jared replied coldly.

Ivan chuckled lightly.

The man was in such a bad mood he was nitpicking about everything.

Ivan continued pouring him wine. “Why don’t you tell her that Nova Media is your company? You were the one who helped Starlight International Group weather the storm. It was you who extended the helping hand. Despite spending your money and effort, you let me reap all the benefits. If Agnes knew it was you who was helping her in the background all along, she might be moved.”

Jared sighed. “If she knew it was me, I bet she’d rather let Starlight International Group go bankrupt than accept my help.” 

Ivan frowned. “I’ve always forgotten to ask you why things between you two turned out like this. Is there really no solution?”

Jared sighed again but didn’t say anything.

He didn’t want to talk about his sister’s past.

Even though it had been a decade since, it still remained the biggest problem in his life.

On the other hand, things with Alyssa weren’t looking good either.

She was always down and would occasionally urge him to get a divorce.

“Enough talk, drink with me,” Jared sighed.

Agnes shook her head and gave a forced smile, “No, he’s always been nice to me.”

“Then why have things gotten to the point of divorce?”

Agnes helplessly replied, “Mamie, can you and Ivan not interfere? We’ll sort this out ourselves.”
