Chapter 371

Beatrice was hopping mad, shaking all over

Her and Mamie? Never in the same ballpark.

Unless Agnes and Mamie had some sort of powwow, there was no way Mamie would go out of her way to ruffle her feathers.

Yet, Beatrice had no plans to hunt down Agnes

Agnes might have already smelled a rat after last night’s event

Just in time, it was Beatrice’s turn to be in the limelight the next day.

In the movie, she was playing the baddie.

She was a hot-shot newbie in the modeling world, having only one scene with Mamie, the lead.

Originally, the scene wasn’t set for immediate filming

But for some reason, the scene was fast-tracked.

The plot was at a model competition, Beatrice’s character secretly scattered pearls on stage, causing the lead to trip. But the lead cleverly dodged the bullet, resulting in her taking a tumble.

However, in the middle of filming, the director threw in an extra scene.

It was about the lead’s rise to power, to better portray the character’s transition from a pushover to a tough cookie

This new scene was about the lead finding out about Beatrice’s character’s scheme and slapping her.

Beatrice didn’t overthink it

After all, every second on film was precious, having more screen time should have made her happy.

The initial scenes went smoothly until the slapping scene, where things took a turn Mamie, aiming for realism, insisted on delivering a genuine slap. Beatrice sensed trouble but felt powerless due to her minor role.

As expected, Mamie slapped Beatrice hard during the take, leaving her shocked. However, Mamie “forgot” her lines, prompting a retake

This pattern repeated three times, and Beatrice knew Mamie was using the scene to get at her. The crew noticed too, but the director was focused on achieving the perfect shot, inadvertently giving Mamie more leeway.

This wasn’t the first time. During “Cinderella”, Mamie had exploited scenes to torment Agnes

Beatrice, who once took pleasure in Agnes’ distress, was now on the receiving end. But Beatrice wasn’t one to take things lying down. After another of Mamie’s “errors”, she confronted the director, “Sir, Mamie’s actions are clearly deliberate. I can’t figure out why she’s targeting me, but look at the damage. If my mother sees this, she’ll be devastated”

Beatrice deliberately mentioned Laura, hoping the director would consider her mom and intervene

After all, Laura and the director were old pals who’ve known each other for decades, and she got this role thanks to Laura.

Mamie was standing there, laughing at her foolishness.

If she hadn’t mentioned Laura, it’d have been alright. Once Laura was brought up, Hamish might get ticked off.

Hamish had given Beatrice a role out of his regard for Laura.

But who knew, the moment Beatrice arrived on set, she started bragging about it

As if getting Hamish’s special favor was something to show off, as if getting a role through connections was some sort of talent.

Later, the news even made it to the papers.

Hamish had always been known for his seriousness and impartiality in the film industry, a renowned filmmaker.

He never dabbled in trades involving money, connections, or the body.

But now, his lifelong reputation was tarnished by this mother-daughter duo.

Even rumors started flying in the film circle, that Hamish’s favoritism towards the Pritchard family’s daughters was because of a past romance with Laura…

Chapter 372

Beatrice might not be the most gifted actress, but she knew drama off-screen. Hamish was already weary of her antics. So when she complained, he tersely responded, “Mamie’s a star with top-tier acting, and she makes mistakes too. Learn from her, instead of playing the victim”

Beatrice was fuming at his words, her expression stormy. Yet Hamish noticed Mamie’s deliberate provocations. He sharply told Mamie, “Enough games, Mamie Focus on the job”

Mamie smirked, “Understood, Hamish.”

Beatrice felt a brief relief, thinking Mamie would back off. But she had underestimated Mamie’s stubborn streak. A simple slap scene went on for twenty retakes, with Mamie’s slap growing harsher each time. Beatrice’s face began to swell, and Mamie showed no signs of holding back.

On a break, a distraught Beatrice confronted Mamie, “What did I ever do to you, Mamie, to deserve this?”

Mamie leaned in with a sly smile. “What makes you think you’re innocent in my eyes?”

“You may be a star, but that doesn’t give you the right to bully others! I could go to the media,” Beatrice retorted.

Mamie laughed, “And tell them what? That I’m a bully? That’s already my brand. you try to expose me, you’ll look like you’re just trying to gain fame through me. Be my guest”

Beatrice’s heart sank. Mamie was right. There were celebrities who seemed immune to scandals, with loyal fans defending their every move. Mamie was one such untouchable icon.

Fighting back tears, Beatrice pleaded, “What do you want for this to stop?”

Mamie pondered for a moment. “How about you leave the show? If not, trust me, I can find countless ways to make your life hell”

The weight of the decision pressed on Beatrice. Getting a role in Hamish’s project had been a dream come true. As a newcomer, this was her golden ticket, and her peers envied her for it. Walking away would make her the subject of ridicule. But how much more could she endure from Mamie?

Plus, after this show, her value would skyrocket compared to ordinary film school students.

No way she’s giving up.

Beatrice gritted her teeth, “I won’t quit. I don’t believe you can do whatever you want on set”

“I certainly can. Not just on set, but throughout the whole entertainment industry” Mamie arrogantly answered, “Can’t stand it? Well, suck it up.”

At this point, the director called for the next take

Still no pass.

Even the director started to persuade her, but Mamie didn’t let go.

Everyone on set started to sympathize with Beatrice, but no one dared to intervene.

The crew steered clear, unwilling to get involved in the feud. While Beatrice was at a loss about how she angered Mamie, others on set were less sympathetic. They had grown tired of her constant bragging about being Preston Pritchard’s daughter, using her father’s name to land roles and then acting as though she’d eamed her place amongst the stars.

Watching Mamie bring her down a peg or two, many felt a pang of schadenfreude.

Agnes wasn’t due on set that day, but someone else was observing the drama unfold Mamie was known for her no-holds-barred approach.

Her ruthlessness was evident during the filming of ‘Cinderella’, and now it was clear that her vendetta against Beatrice ran deep.

The observer recalled how Beatrice had plotted against him, attempting to sabotage him with drugs. The plan backfired, and Mamie became the unintended victim. That incident was the likely genesis of Mamie’s animosity. It wasn’t just an on-set rivalry, it was personal

Chapter 373

Agnes actually felt kinda sorry for her, but Beatrice’s scheming was just too nasty

Resorting to drugging people, how extreme she was!

She deserved a lesson

Who knows what she might pull next?

Agnes had been watching from the sidelines for a while but didn’t step in

This only made Beatrice hate her more.

She was more convinced than ever that it was all Agnes doing

Mamie clearly had no intention of letting her off the hook

As Mamie raised her hand again,

Beatrice gripped Mamie’s hand tight, 1 quit, okay? Mamie, you wait. I’ll make you pay for today’s humiliation.”

With that, Beatrice shook off Mamie’s hand, kicked aside some props, and took off

Everyone was left with mixed feelings.

But hey, showbiz is always messy, this kind of stuff is all part of the package.

That evening. Jared Whitfield showed up.

He treated the entire cast to dinner

He booked the largest private room at the Ford Hotel.

The crew couldn’t stop complimenting Agnes.

“Agnes, you’re one lucky duck”

“Mr. Whitfield really spoils you”

“Agner, we owe you big time today.”

Beatrice sequestered herself in the dressing room.

As Medina was leaving, she said to Beatrice, “Aren’t you joining your brother-in-law’s dinner?” Brother-in-law! She hated that title.

Agnes was just nauseating, always making sure everyone knew she was Mrs. Whitfield.

Constantly having Jared treat the crew to dinner, cozying up to them.

All she wanted was to show off her status and bask in their insincere flattery

To Beatrice, it was all a big show, a power play!

She couldn’t stand it any longer

Even if Laura said it wasn’t the right time yet, she couldn’t hold back!

She was done waiting

She couldn’t bear watching Agnes bask in her glory while she was being bullied!

She’d leave the crew tomorrow.

She wouldn’t let Agnes off the hook

Beatrice suddenly got up and headed straight for the Ford Hotel.

By the time Beatrice barged into the private room, Agnes and Jared were already gone

Medina mentioned that Jared was swamped today, only in S City for a meeting, and had to rush back tonight.

Agnes went to see him off at the airport.

Everyone was envious that Jared could still make time for his wife despite his busy schedule.

Beatrice immediately headed for the airport

As luck would have it, Jared hadn’t gone through security when Beatrice arrived.

They were talking in the airport lobby.

They looked very intimate.

Jared seemed to be about to go through security.

They seemed reluctant to part

Jared hugged Agnies for a moment before turning to leave.

But after only a couple steps, he turned back and kissed Agnes deeply.

Not many people were in the lobby, but those who passed by would definitely take a second look.

Lovebirds always draw envious glances.

Seeing this, Beatrice clenched her fists, cursing in her mind, “How shameless!”

it took a while before Jared finally let go of Agnes and left with his luggage

8

Agnes watched Jared’s figure gradually disappear, standing there for a long time before deciding to leave.

As she turned around, she saw Beatrice standing not far away.

“You two look so sweet, it’s sickening. Agnes, how does Jared’s kiss feel? Can’t get enough of it?”

Beatrice’s voice dripped with jealousy and bitterness as she spoke.

Agnes frowned, “Why are you here?”

“Dear sister, I’m here, of course, to see you”

“What do you want?”

“Agnes, Mamie hit me today, was it your idea?”

Beatrice is still fuming over today’s incident.

Chapter 374

She didn’t dare to take revenge on Mamie, but she dumped all her anger on Agnes.

Agnes looked indifferent: “Beatrice, there’s been a question bugging me, do you really hate me that much? Are you trying to corner me? Was it you who drugged my drink last night, locked me in the rest room, and called the press? What the hell are you up to?”

Beatrice didn’t expect Agnes to see through her plan.

Beatrice denied it: “Agnes, quit your nonsense, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Drugging your drink? Are you trying to smear my name?”

Agnes gave a cold laugh and pulled out a lock from her bag. “This is the lock that was used to lock me in the rest room yesterday. Is it yours?” “Agnes, you’re losing it. I’ve never seen that thing before.”

“Are you sure you’ve never seen it?”

“Agnes, I have no idea what you’re talking about”

“But it has your fingerprints on it, I’ve already had it checked by a forensics expert

Beatrice felt a bit uneasy.

When Agnes said she had the lock checked, Beatrice immediately panicked.

If Agnes really found evidence about what happened last night and told Jared…

Then she would be in real trouble.

Beatrice blurted out, “Agnes, you’re being ridiculous. You got this lock from some random store and now you’re getting it checked? Even if it has my fingerprints on it, so what? Oh yeah, I just remembered, I did buy a lock once, but I lost it, maybe this is the one. I had no idea if someone picked it up and used it to lock you in, or to frame me. You’re not planning to slander me, are you?”

In fact, Beatrice didn’t care about Agnes’s suspicions

Whether she was suspicious or sure, as long as she firmly denied it, Agnes couldn’t threaten her.

“Beatrice, don’t you think your excuse is a bit of a stretch?”

“Agnes, do whatever you want, I already told you it wasn’t met

“I didn’t want to pursue this matter, but since you said it wasn’t you, I don’t need to consider the reputation of the Pritchard family. I’ll hand all the evidence to the police. Oh, and there’s no surveillance outside the rest room, but there is outside our private room. Whoever went in and out of the room last night and at what time… it’s easy to find out who wanted to harm me. And that waiter at the hotel, he wouldn’t go to the rest room for no reason. Let him go to the police station and, make a statement…

“Agnes, what are you trying to do?”

Beatrice was completely panicked

Beatrice also knew that what she did yesterday was not well planned.

If it was investigated thoroughly, she couldn’t escape the blame

But yesterday, she was confident she would succeed.

At that time, Agnes’s scandal would be the talk of the town, who would investigate whether she was framed or not,

And Jared would certainly despise her at that time.

What ability would she have to find out the truth?

But Beatrice didn’t expect to fail, and be caught by Agnes.

“So, are you finally willing to admit it?” Agnes asked.

Given the situation, Beatrice knew denial was useless.

So she admitted: “Yes, it was me. I did all of it. Agnes, I just hate you. I want to destroy your reputation, I want everyone to abandon you, I want you to lose everything that should have been mine.”

Chapter 375

Agnes felt her more and more disappointed.

She had known all along that there was a direct link between Beatrice and that incident.

But, when she heard her admit it herself, Agnes felt a pang of pain in her heart.

Agnes’s voice grew colder: “What do you think I’ve taken from you, from what you had?”

Beatrice’s voice quivered with suppressed rage. “Agnes, I’ve resented you for as long as I can remember. Why were you always the golden girl of the Pritchard family. while I was pushed to the sidelines? Whispered rumors labeled me the result of an affair. Why? Our parents were genuinely in love, yet everyone saw our family as an impediment. Knowing I had a half-sister was a stain on my identity, all because of you. Father always had a soft spot for you. Remember the marriage proposal from the Whitfield family? He handed it to you, as though you were his only daughter. Did he ever think maybe I was better suited for Jared? You were aware of my feelings for him, yet you stepped in and overshadowed me. Every step of the way you’ve been a thorn in my side. My resentment for you? It runs deep: If I could, I’d erase you from my life.”

Agnes felt these words were nothing but ludicrous.

“Beatrice, if you think you’re living in my shadow, it’s because your mother interfered with my parents’ marriage. No matter what the reason, as a woman, she shouldn’t have destroyed someone else’s family. If it was true love, she could’ve made my dad divorce and marry her in a proper way. But she didn’t. She chose this path, so she can’t blame the world’s judgment. As for you, you’ve been lazy and aimless since childhood. Dad has spent so much money on your tutoring, yet you’re still blaming him for not favoring you. As for Jared, it’s even more laughable. You knew Jared was already married to me, but you still clung on to him shamelessly. Where did you get the nerve to think Jared would like you? You don’t seem to have any shame about wrecking someone else’s marriage and even going to great lengths to frame me. Beatrice, you shouldn’t hate me, you should hate Ms. Laura for not instilling proper values in you since childhood, for not teaching you that wrecking someone else’s family is disgraceful. If Ms. Laura didn’t teach you these things, as your older sister, I’ll teach you a lesson today.” Agnes took a step forward.

Slap!

With a resounding smack, another slap met Beatrice’s face. This time, it wasn’t from Mamie but Agnes. Reeling from the shock, tears of indignation welled in Beatrice’s eyes. Having been slapped by Mamie throughout the day and now by Agnes was more than she could bear

With rage clouding her judgment, Beatrice charged at Agnes, her nails outstretched. But Agnes, composed and quick, caught her assailant’s wrist, gripping it with such force that Beatrice’s face twisted in pain. The pressure was so intense, it felt like her bones might shatter.

Once satisfied she’d made her point, Agnes released her. “Beatrice, she began, her voice cold and steady. Tve tolerated your antics before. But what you’ve done lately is far too much. This slap? Consider it a warning. Just because I chose peace before doesn’t mean I’m defenseless. Mess with me, especially using underhanded schemes, and you’ll regret it. Next time? I won’t be as merciful”

Chapter 376

Agnes let go of Beatrice’s hand, turning to leave

But Beatrice pointed at Agnes’s retreating figure and shouted, “Agnes, you dare to treat me like this just because you’ve become Mrs. Whitfield, huh? But do you know, the Whitfields were behind your mom’s death, and you marned Jared to enjoy the glitz and glamour, your mom would be furious if she knew” Agnes stopped dead in her tracks.

She turned around, “Beatrice, what did you say? You better make yourself clear today!

“Alright, I’ll spill the beans. Your mom took her own life, but do you know why? Because she pocketed a donation and was shamed when it went public. She couldn’t handle the public scrutiny and committed suicide. That donation was from Alyssa Whitfield. Your mom and Alyssa were buddies, tumed enemies over a guy. It was public knowledge in our circle then. Don’t you think your mom’s suicide was fishy? It could have been Alyssa’s doing. And you still call her sister so affectionately, Agnes, you’ve actually married into your enemy’s family.”

Suddenly, Agnes felt a chill run through her body

She had looked up the newspapers from ten years ago.

Her mom did commit suicide due to the exposure of a 2-million donation, which ruined her reputation.

But Agnes couldn’t trace the source of the donation.

She never expected Beatrice to know so much.

Keeping her composure, Agnes asked, “Who told you all this?”

“No one. I eavesdropped on my parents’ argument. Dad knew about the Whitfields’ involvement but you were already secretly married to Jared. He didn’t want to ruin your marriage so he kept it from you. But Agnes, some truths can’t be hidden. The Whitfields are linked to your mom’s death. Even if they didn’t intentionally set her up, she died because of it. Agnes, you’ve married your enemy’s son and you’re okay with it? Aren’t you afraid your mom would be upset?”

Agnes felt as if she’d been hit by a bolt of lightning. Her mind reeled, and she tried to process what she’d heard.

It didn’t matter if Beatrice spoke the truth or not, the revelation about unknown events from the past was shocking.

Beatrice claimed that Alyssa and Agnes’s mother had once been friends, but they fell out over a man. What was going on?

Beatrice watched Agnes’s stunned reaction with a hint of smugness. She had joined the cast specifically to get close to Agnes and wait for the right moment to drop this bombshell. Although her original intention was to get close to Jared, she believed that once Agnes learned the truth, their bond would shatter.

Her attempt to intoxicate Jared didn’t succeed, so she devised another plot.

Beatrice aimed to tarnish Agnes’s reputation, ensuring the Whitfields would disown her. After all, they would never accept a woman with a questionable past to be Jared’s wife.

But to her surprise, Agnes had good luck and dodged the bullet.

Now, seeing the lost look on Agnes’s face, Beatrice felt this information was enough.

Given Agnes’s character, she would absolutely not spend her life with someone from the family of her mother’s enemy.

Now, all she had to do was sit back and enjoy the show!

Chapter 377

Beatrice went on, “Agnes, your heart must be in a twist. You’ve fallen for the man from your enemy’s family. You and Jared are like Romeo and Juliet. I heard Jared’s mum is out of the picture and his sister Alyssa raised him all by herself. To him, Alyssa is like a mother. Do you think he’ll still love you when he finds out your mum and his sister were at odds? Will he be on guard with you, like he’s with a thief? Agnes, if it was truly his sister who caused your mum’s death, do you think he’d tolerate someone who’s itching for revenge? Do you think you could ever measure up to his beloved sister?” Agnes just stood there, frozen.

Beatrice got more and more cocky, “If I were you, I’d ditch Jared. I couldn’t share a bed with someone who had a hand in my mother’s death. Agnes, I’ve said it before, the title of Mrs. Whitfield doesn’t suit you. Better cut your losses now, or else you’ll be the one in pain. I’m just looking out for you…*

“Enough, Beatrice. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. You’re just trying to stir the pot for your own gain. But let me tell you, even if I divorced Jared, even if all the women in the world were wiped out, Jared wouldn’t give you a second glance. Do you really think Jared would marry a woman from the Pritchard family if Alyssa was really responsible for my mother’s death? All this talk today is just because you want to be Mrs. Whitfield. But don’t forget, in everyone’s eyes, we’re sisters. So, don’t get your hopes up. Jared will never cross paths with you.”

Beatrice was livid, “Agnes, you’re talking nonsense. Jared will fall for me. I will marry him. I will become Mrs. Whitfield”

Agnes scoffed, “I forgot to tell you, I once asked Jared what he thought about you. Guess what he said?”

Beatrice, bracing herself for bad news, asked, “What did he say?”

“He mentioned that just seeing you makes him lose his appetite, Agnes responded.

Without another word, Agnes left, disregarding the insults Beatrice shouted after her. She flagged down a taxi and headed back to the Celestial Skyline Hotel. After taking a long shower, she organized her belongings and even went as far as to clean the already immaculate room. When she was done, fatigue had set in. Agnes often busied herself when she was upset to prevent her mind from wandering. But tonight, lying on the sofa, the confrontation with Beatrice at the airport echoed in her thoughts.

She was aware of Beatrice’s intentions to cause chaos and knew she had walked into a trap. Yet, her curiosity compelled her to delve deeper, to determine if Alyssa had any role in her mother’s death.

Doubt began to gnaw at Agnes’ confidence.

She got up, pulled out two old newspapers from a decade ago from the bottom drawer.

The ones she found at CHERRY.

Agnes studied the graduation photo from that year.

Her mother and Alyssa, arm in arm, head next to head, looking very close.

Why would Alyssa deny this, even claiming to have never heard of the name Julia?

Chapter 378

Agnes can’t for the life of her figure out if her mom’s death really had anything to do with Alyssa

She doesn’t want to go around pointing fingers without any solid proof.

But there’s no denying that there was some sort of connection, some sort of story between Alyssa and her mom. That’s a given.

Agnes stared at the picture, her fingers slowly tightening around it.

She was dead set on getting to the bottom of this

Laura was a big shot in the entertainment industry a decade ago.

So, she and Hamish were old buddies.

Her mom was a star before Laura and Alyssa and Julia were part of the same generation in showbiz.

Agnes’ grandma once told her that

Julia was a big deal back in the day, starred in a ton of movies, and had a massive fan base.

Hamish has been in the biz for over twenty years.

So, he should have some memories of her mom.

So, the next day, Agnes took a newspaper and went to see Hamish

Hamish studied the old photo, then after squinting, remarked, “Agnes, where did you find this vintage snapshot? These are familiar faces from the first graduating class of StoryMasters Academy. Most have made significant marks in the industry. See him? He’s a well-established actor, almost fifty, yet still performing his own stunts in action films. He’s never needed a stunt double, which is truly commendable. And this one- isn’t he the head of DreamWeave Film Academy? He started with a lot of talent but later transitioned into business investment. Now he’s a big name in real estate. And her, very talented and smart, though perhaps not Hollywood’s typical look. She didn’t rise to stardom, but she married well and moved abroad.”

Hamish looked at the photo as if he was looking at old friends, enthusiastically recounting each person’s life experiences and anecdotes to Agnes.

When he mentioned Julia, Hamish noticeably paused, “This one

Seeing Hamish’s hesitation, Agnes quickly asked, “Hamish, do you know her? She’s my mother”

Agnes is Preston’s daughter, all everyone knew was that Preston’s first wife had passed away. The past had been forgotten.

So, Hamish didn’t immediately connect the dots that Agnes was Julia’s daughter.

Hamish hesitated and said, “I do know her, but we never worked together, so we weren’t close. Twenty years ago I was still an unknown director and Julia was already famous, so I didn’t have the opportunity to work with her. But later when I gained some fame, Julia had already married and had kids, left the industry. I just remember her being devoted to charity work for many years, until later.

At this point, Hamish paused, glanced at Agnes with some restraint, then sighed, “I don’t remember much about the past.”

Agnes knew, Hamish must be thinking of her mother being accused of embezzlement, her reputation ruined, and her suicide.

Her mom was famous in the past, Hamish must have known.

He was just considering her feelings now.

As for this, Agnes didn’t really want to bring it up.

She pointed directly to another person in the photo and asked, “Hamish, do you know this person?”

The person Agnes was pointing to was Alyssa.

Hamish frowned slightly and said, “She’s Alyssa, the youngest outstanding student from StoryMasters Academy, recommended to college at sixteen, the only daughter of the Tim Group, isn’t she Jared’s sister?”

Beatrice was smug as hell when she said, “You wanna know? Why not ask Alyssa? Let her spill the beans.”

Then she sidled up to Agnes, “Agnes, you gotta get to the bottom of this. Don’t let me down. Your mom might have been wrongly accused and she’s probably still restless. Remember this when you and Jared are happy.”

Upon seeing Agnes’s frosty demeanor, a gleeful smirk crossed Beatrice’s face. She exited the lounge triumphantly, leaving a pale and shaken Agnes behind. The thought that Beatrice’s insinuations might be true terrified Agnes, but she was determined to uncover the truth.

That evening. Mamie extended a dinner invitation to Agnes, who declined gracefully. Mamie’s preference for upscale private dining establishments often came with exorbitant price tags, typically in the four-figure range. While Mamie always footed the bill, Agnes felt uncomfortable after several such outings, especially given her lack of appetite that day.

Instead, after her day’s work, Agnes headed to a quaint alley nearby. One of the dwindling historical streets in downtown that remained untouched by modern development, it was home to several authentic local eateries. She had chanced upon these gems on a prior occasion, with one in particular serving mouthwatering beef burgers. Ever since her arrival in S City, Agnes had made it a habit to frequent this spot nearly daily.

After a while, she got to know the owner. When she walked in, he greeted her with a smile, “Back again, are ya? The usual beef burger?”

Agnes nodded, “Add more chili, the spicier the better”

“Too much chili is bad for your stomach. Maybe you should cut back a bit.”

Everyone called him Albert. He was always dressed in grey, with a noticeable scar at the comer of his eye. But it had faded over the years, and when he smiles, it just looked like a wrinkle, making him look kind and even a bit elegant.

Albert was a good looking guy. You could tell he must’ve been a real heartbreaker when he was younger. Agnes always thought he looked familiar. Then it hit her He looked like a famous movie star. Sometimes she’d joke that he could be in the movies. Albert would always laugh and say, “If I were in the movies, I’d have won a bunch of Oscars by now.” Agnes would tease him for being full of himself.

The beef burger was served. The aroma was irresistible. As usual, Albert gave Agnes some side dishes. The place was empty that day, so Albert sat across from Agnes. They had done this before, just sit and chat. Albert knew she was an actress and they often gossiped about celebrities. Even though he was over fifty, he could still keep up with her,

But that day, Agnes was silent, just eating her burger. The reason she loved Albert’s burger was because it tasted just like the ones her mom used to make. It was a taste of her childhood. As she was eating, she was on the verge of tears.

Albert handed her a tissue, “You’re the only one who cries while eating my beef burger
