He Is Not Alone
Chapter 19

Thursday evening, Amy and Will head to the library in town for free WIFI access. Will logs into his Hotmail account and finds the email from Lou. Lou wants him to call him at home. Given the time difference, he decides now is a good time. Will takes out another throwaway phone and calls.

“Lou Pickerelli.”

“Lou, its Will. What do you have for me?”

“Will, I have some friends that you need to contact. You need to call them tomorrow morning at 9 am Eastern. They do not know about your capabilities. It might be best if you talk to them before telling them. The company is Point Legal Group. They are on the web. If possible, talk to Diane Martin. She is a top-notch criminal lawyer. Let her know I told you to call.”

“Okay, thanks, Lou. Amy and I will be moving to Canada for a while. We have been here way too long and with winter setting in soon, we need to find a place to live. Thanks again, bye.”

The next morning at 5 am, Will was on the phone calling the lawyer that Lou recommended.

“Good Morning, Point Legal Group, how may I help you?”

“Hello, may I speak to Diane please, this is Will Smythe calling. She is expecting my call.”

“One moment, please.”

“Good Morning, Will, this is Diane. I understand that you are a friend of Lou Pickerelli’s. How can we help you?”

“Well, what did Lou tell you? So, I know where to start?”

“He told me that the FBI wanted you to turn yourself in and that you were probably in need of a good lawyer. Other than that, he wanted you to tell me what the problem was. Perhaps you can come into the office and we can discuss it.”

“I am in Alaska at the moment, so stopping in the office isn’t an option. Do you have time for a quick overview?”

“Yes, of course. Please go ahead.”

Over the next 20 minutes, Will and Diane discuss the issues. Will does let her know about his basic capabilities and his working with the various police departments as well as the FBI.

“Will, I think it is best that we get together. If you are planning on turning yourself in, we will need to be prepared for just about anything. I think it will be imperative that you be represented by counsel so that the FBI knows you cannot just disappear.”

“I told Director Comely, that I would be calling next week. How should I handle that?”

“We will call him for you. In the meantime, when can you come to DC?”

“I live in an RV. It will take me a week or so to make it to DC. Figure on two weeks just to be safe.”

“Okay, let me call Comely next week on your behalf. In the meantime, I need to send you some documents so that I can represent you. I have an email address from Lou, will that be okay?”

“Yes. I will pick up another phone for our conversations and send you an email with the number. In the meantime, I will get on the road towards DC.”

“What is wrong with the number I have that you are using?”

“Let’s just say I am a little paranoid and am using throwaway phones.”

“I understand. Okay, when you have a phone and phone number for our use, please email me with the information. Until then we will use email for communications. Please have a safe trip and contact me when you are in the DC area.”

We finish our conversation and Amy and I start the process of getting on the road. Trip planning for this trip from Fort Wainwright to Washington, DC is over 4,600 miles. With our 300 miles a day average it will take us over 15 days to complete the trip. It is the middle of August and weather may be an issue as well until we hit the east coast.

The next morning, we hit the road. The first day we enter the Yukon Territory in Canada. Our first night is off the road in a primitive campsite. No water, electric or sewer. The stars are fantastic out here in the middle of nowhere.

The next morning, Amy takes the wheel as we head out on our journey on the Alaskan Highway. We continue to switch driving and manage to cover a little over 400 miles a day, cutting a few days from the trip. This is definitely a trip to take again when we have time. Canada is so beautiful. We travel through miles and miles of wilderness with small little towns every now and then. Managing fuel and fresh water is a must on the back roads of Canada.

By the time we get to Niagara Falls, we both need a break. We enter the US at the falls and stop at the KOA. Full hookups a swimming pool and a nice candlelight dinner does wonders for Amy and I. We spend a couple of days just relaxing. Prior to leaving, I send Diane an email that we will be arriving in two days and that I plan on using the KOA in DC.
