RAESE

Despite that he typically didn’t feel temperature unless very extreme, Raese Whiting felt the cold tonight. It’s pervasive.

He also felt Calisto’s presence. Her strength.

I’m in the past again. He realized. Back in the 1400s.

“Raese!” Her palms were pressed to his face. “Honey, you have to remember who you are.”

He blinked his eyes open wondering if he was back in one of his dreams as he met the deep dark gaze. “Calisto?”

“It is!” She laughed joyously. Pressing her lips to his in rapid little kisses. “I’m right here.”

He reached out and his arms encircled true flesh and blood. “How are you here?”

“I don’t know! But it won’t last.”

“Make love to me!” He cried with desperate need.

“I can’t. I can’t. Would that I could! But I can give you this. With a last press of her lips, she molded her forehead to his to focus her energy into him. Forcing memories deep from the pit of his brain. Drawing them to the forefront.

There was wild battle cries. Screams of agony. Everywhere there was falling dragons. He coasted the sky. His eyes on the ground as Calisto swung her sword with impressive strength. Severing through lines of Cimmerii like butter. A toss of her head sent another flood to wash away those attacking her from the side or behind.

She turned with another swing of her sword.

A powerful warrioress.

Despite his fear for her he was overwhelmed with pride that the woman standing her ground below was his beautiful wife.

She twisted and tossed another glance up at him. Smiling broadly at him. As her sword swung reflexively. She dropped her sword into the ground at her side. Crouching as another surge of Cimmerii raced toward her. And when she rose with clenched open hands water seeped from every crevice of the earth below to blow them back in a cylinder of rivers surrounding her.

Feeling blinding pain Raese’s gaze drew to the flash of light cutting into him. His eyes trailed to the demon guiding the ambush. He saw Radix down in the clearing sending out a streamer of dark lightning which now burned into Raese’s breast. He drew a long breath and blinked against the pain. His wings stopped moving. Refusing to obey his bidding as his huge scaled body conducted the searing heat through his skin, scales and organs.

I’m falling. Paralyzed against it, he did his best to shift his weight to his back. Pulling his feet in to protect his legs and vital organs. Safer to land.

But the distance he fell would be nearly impossible to survive. The exception to our immortality, is when we’ve attained to much damage to regenerate.

He tried to focus his bleary gaze as he drew near the ground. Hearing a woman’s familiar scream. To his surprise, he heard a slosh and felt the cushion of water rising over him in a wave which absorbed his momentum. Dipping under made it fill his lungs as he fought to draw a weak breath.

The water dissipated as fast as it had come, and he saw Calisto staring horrified a distance away. Her hand out to command the water that had saved his life. She ran to him. Her feet sliding over the water that helped carry her faster. She dropped to her knees skidding to his side.

“Raese! Raese talk to me.”
