Knowing Chavias would be worried about the tracker, Savage had been waiting for him outside his Mansion.

He was wounded. By Chavias. Savage had already gotten word from a few of his sources.

He was waiting to see if the Tracker had survived. Despite that rumor was he had; Savage knew Chavias would be unappeased unless Savage had seen him himself.

Savage was sitting leisurely in the forking point of a large needle tree. High toward the top so he’d see Rhyers’ carriage coming down the road. I truly should’ve known better after my last run in with the Tracker.

Savage caught the barely perceptible sound of a needle seed crunching underfoot and looked down. Seeing the Tracker circling the tree on the ground to peer up into it. He knows I’m up here.

He’s trying to spot me.

“I left no track.” He said.

“You left several.”

Unlikely.

But how else would he have known I was here? Branches crackled as Savage slid between the branches. Weaving like a serpent as he made his way down the jutting arms of the tree. Until he was eventually in view of the tracker.

“Why are you watching for me?”

“To see if you were alive.”

Because when I see Chavias next, he’ll ask me if I’ve seen you.

If he truly wanted you dead, you’d be dead.

“I very much am.”

He’ll be happy to hear that.

“I see that.” Savage remarked.

“Why do you care?”

I don’t.

He will.

“Any creature that can sneak up on me warrants my interest.”

That part is factual. You are unique.

“I’m no threat to you.” Rhyers assured.

You are when you’re able to follow me like you do. But no threat to me in hand to hand. Savage was sure.

“If you were injured, why are you on foot?”

It was purportedly a near fatal injury.

“I heal fast. Faster if I’m up moving.”

If you shift. Savage knew what he was really saying.

Chavias had long ago explained it was the fastest way for a Forever Knight to heal from bad injury.

That’s how he looks completely unfazed now.
