Chloe

As we arrive at our next destination, I exit the car, taking in the... pool hall?

Twisting to face him, I point to the building. “Pool?”

“Issue?”

“No.”

“Delighted. Shall we?”

Extending his arm once again, I pass by his hand, not longing for that feeling to rear its ugly head. Strolling side by side, he shuffles up front to open the door for me to enter. He may be a mafia boss, nevertheless a gentleman. What an oxymoron.

Observing the crowd, I tease, “What, you don’t own this too?”

“I don’t. However, I figured you would be more comfortable in this establishment than in my home dallying in a game of pool.”

Humph. This man is incredible. I shake my head as we make our way through the crowd. Finding our table, I’m excited and ashamed I’m untalented at pool. I’m left for a moment while Dominic excuses himself.

I scour the crowd as that frightful chill claws at my insides. I’m unaware if anyone at all has me within their sight. Everyone seems to be engaged in their leisure. Is this just residual of the trauma I’ve experienced, or could I be developing paranoia? What the actual fuck is wrong with me?

A tremor seizes my body when a hand finds my lower back. Twisting, my hand flattens, flying in the air. Dominic captures my hand before it connects with his face.

“Dominic!” My eyes widen as I yelp in shock.

Salciousness oozes from his darkened orbs, the muscles in his lips stretch. Wrinkles riddle my forehead.

Inching closer to my ear, his breath heats my flesh, “I love the way my name sounds flowing from those supple lips of yours, Ms. Knox.”

Sucking in my lower lip, my eyes seal shut, breathing quickens when I come to the realization we are in public, and this is DOMINIC.

Snatching my hand from his grasp, I recede from his hold. “You’re lucky I didn’t smack that look off your face.”

“Am I?” His left eyebrow lifts to the high heavens.

FUCK! What the hell is wrong with him?

“I’d love to see you be able to accomplish that one day. It would be a pleasure to have your hands on me.” Focusing on his ice-blue hues, I observe the seriousness in his words.

In a poor attempt to move along, I grab a pool stick. “Are we going to play or just stand here speaking nonsense?”

“Nonsense!” He chuckles at me, racking the balls on the table for us to begin our game.

“Ladies first.” He waves to the perfect triangle on the green velvet. I attempt to hold the cue stick properly, fumbling along the way.

“Need assistance with holding a stick?”

His suggestive tone aroused my senses. The look in his eyes triggered something within me.

I conclude honesty is best. “I’m not gifted in this game. However, I will try my best.”

Dominic strolls beside me, pointing at the white ball. “Try to hit the ball here.” He moved closer, beside me. He wrapped his hands around mine, cradling my body. My breathing quickened at his proximity. His cologne infiltrates my senses. Inhaling deeply, I recomposed myself, catching my actions.

His voice dripped in my ear, “Now swing your arm back, keeping it straight, and move full force forward, hitting the white ball where I showed you.”

He finally receded, giving me the space I indeed required to concentrate. Following his recommendations, I inhaled a deep breath, swinging a straight arm back, bringing it full force forward, hearkening the crack when the white ball connected with the now scattered triangle, watching the right corner ball fall into the side pocket.

In a state of sheer frivolousness, I jump up and into Dominic’s arms, planting a kiss on his cheek, catching the edge of his lip. Registering my actions, I back away with widened eyes.

Dominic’s eyes are laser-focused on me as his smile widens across his face, strolling towards me. I swallow the lump in my throat as he closes in on me, arm extending to my side, my face leans in, hitting his wrist when I observe he grasps the pool cue behind me.

What the fuck was I thinking he was attempting to do? Get it together, Chloe. Heat consumed my face as embarrassment settled in. I twist to gather my drink and gulp a tremendous amount of liquid.

“It’s still your go, Ms. Knox. You are the high ball, the one with the stripes.”

He grabs the chalk, placing it on the cue, coating the tip of his stick. Chalk floats over his other tattooed hand.

I scour over the table and attempt to hit the ball across the table into the far corner pocket when Dominic strolls to my side.

“This one is better.” He points to the ball closer to the side pocket.

“You need to know the English of the cue ball to accomplish the correct shots.” He points to the middle left side of the ball. “If you hit here, the ball will follow the line and hit this ball, causing it to roll into the side pocket. It’s a short line, and you will set up the cue ball for the corner pocket.”

I attempt to heed his advice, laying low, lining up my shot, taking the hit, and missing completely. My eyes seal shut in an attempt to not throw the pool stick across the establishment.

He chuckles at my poor endeavor. “That was a practice shot.”

Both his eyebrows raise, nodding his head, amused by my antics. “Please.” He waves for me to undertake another shot.

I reposition myself, take a lung-filling breath, line myself up with the ball, keeping the high ball within my sight.

Dominic places his phone on the edge of the pool table saunters behind me, cradling me once again. I, however, keep my composure this time around. He places his hands over mine and sets me up to take the shot.

“Now, use medium strength so the ball stops on this side of the table so you can take the next shot in the corner.”

He releases his grasp, sliding his hands down my back, causing a chill to slither up my spine in the most delicious way.

Escaping from my chaotic emotions, I seal my eyes shut, refocusing on my shot, pull my arm back, and release forward. Attentive to the roll of the cue ball hitting the green striped ball into the side pocket.

Overjoyed with excitement, I jump up and down, accidentally knocking Dominic’s phone off the table.

“Oh no.” My eyes widen, rushing to the floor, scrambling to recover his device when I observe the crack on his screen. FUCK!

Holding the phone in my hands, I peer up at him, prepared for outrage when I’m met with a smile?

“I’m sorry, I’ll pay for a new screen. Just forward me the bill when it has been replaced.”

“This,” his voice drops, “requires punishment.”

The gleam in his eyes sparked a flame, igniting the embers that fizzled within me. My breathing hitched in my throat. He edges closer to me, my legs automatically step back, meeting the wall. His smile captivates my eyes, caging me in, mouth reaching for my ear.

“You’ve been an excited bad girl Ms. Knox. Cracking the screen on my phone. What will I do to you for such incredulous actions?”

My eyes fastened shut while dirty thoughts filtered through my mind. The heat from his lips grazed my ear, moving agonizingly slow over my neck. He inhales in a deep, slow breath, moving up to my cheek just over my lips, and then– nothing.

The cool breeze of his retreat triggered my eyes to open, and the action of filling my lungs with air again.

“It’s getting late, and I have business to attend to. I’ll escort you home, Ms. Knox.”

What? Shaking off my irrationality. I swallow the lump in my throat, agreeing with a nod, making my way through the crowd traipsing behind him.

Dominic

Strolling into the warehouse, I recall the way she heeded my words and acquired a new skill in a short amount of time. That would also do well in the bedroom.

I could use an employee like herself, willing to accept orders without question. I took note of the other side of her. She attempts to conceal it from others, although I can view the evil lurking beneath the surface.

Taking my seat in the office, I peer at the seat where she inquired for assistance in her closure. Pulling my phone out of my pants pocket, I observe the crack, shutting my eyes recalling her perfume’s entrancing scent.

FUCK!

She is supposed to fall for me, not the other way around. Rubbing my finger over the crack, I lose myself in the moment of closing in on her, watching goosebumps rise on her creamy flesh.

Rising, I place the phone on the desk. You will be mine, Mariposa. I will have you eating out of the palm of my hand.
